CAA vs MVFC

Of which, I think 4/5 would win in their first game, whether it be in Round 1 or Round 2.

Let's ignore the fact that we have two teams in the top five and three others inside the top fifteen. Finally we don't have to rely on UNI to do something for our league in the playoffs! Hopefully NDSU, YSU, ILSU, and/or INSU can make a deep run this year.

I think the top 3 teams in the Big Sky, CAA, MVFC, & Southern, are all pretty even this year. If anything I would guess the CAA is probably the weakest at the top of the 4. That is my option based on the middle of the CAA like UD and JMU really being only slightly behind the top 3. Couple that with the middle of the CAA not blowing lower level competition out of the water.

So in the end if the top 3 of each conf are similar then ranking the conf's comes down to how good are the bottom 2/3rds. That question would be harder for me but I would rank them, MVFC then the remaining three very close behind.

UNH, Maine, ODU and Towson occupy the top 4...followed by UD and JMU.

Although people say the CAA is down this year, 6th place JMU already beat the Big South champ Liberty at Liberty and our 4th place team also put the only loss on Lehigh, the Patriot champ. The CAA is still 20-2 OOC against FCS competition with nova losing a pretty even game to Monmouth (5-5) and URI running even with Brown (7-3...who also beat the other Big South leader, Stony Brook) but losing the TO battle 5-0. Even our bottom dweller beat their FBS opponent.

The difference this year is that our top 4 teams are all scoring as though they were from the Big Sky with little attention being paid to defense. JMU and UD would still beat most of the teams from the other conferences.

While I feel JMU was the BEST team that we played, Towson was the most opportunistic and persistent. ODU would love to have another crack at them, preferably in the greasy pizza championship game.

Delaware cleaned ODU's clock...and we destroyed Towson in the second half of that game..especially in the 4th quarter.

4th quarter stats:

UD Defense allowed -1 (that’s a negative) yards rushing on 8 carries.

UD Defense allowed 52 yards passing on 5-12 attempts (41.7% completion rate and only 4.33 YPA) with two INTs.

Defense let up zero points.

Only 7 points given up in the third quarter...and zero after the halfway point in the third quarter.
