Griz beat Sac 31-13 - Hornets didn't get in the endzone until the final 30 seconds

First half was close (17-6 at half); piss poor play calling in the redzone doomed us. Hornets pulled a no show in the 2nd half. Credit to the Griz D, they kept everything in front of them and didn't give up a big play.

I think one play captured the entire second half in microcosm. We had fourth and less than a yard going into the Montana goal, and the idiot OC has the Hornets come out in Pistol. Part of the blame here can go on Safron for a busted read (he threw short on a sideline route to a receiver wearing a Griz defender as a cape). But the point remains that the game was still salvageable at that point, and the OC made a wildly bogus play call. I don't care if you spread the field or not; in a situation like that, you HAVE to have the quarterback under center, and you HAVE to give it to him on the sneak. If you can't get one freaking yard on QB sneak, then you don't deserve to win.

This staff has no freaking clue. Montana's players and staff clearly wanted this more, as midway through the third quarter, Sears up and quit on us. A situation late in the third that CLEARLY called for a fourth down pass (I think it was 4th and 5), and he KICKS?!? After blowing a fourth down earlier with an inappropriate call?!? Yes, there was bogus officiating (particularly dealing with a failure to call obvious UM pass interference throughout the game and weird calls out of nowhere against the Hornets). But that really didn't figure into any of the scoring. Plain and simple, Griz coaches AND players kicked our shells up and down the field today. The loss of Sankey has clearly hurt us, and SD is correct that our boys battled in the first half, but our staff found themselves outmatched in the third quarter and quit. Hornet fans deserve better than that....
