No but I'd be fine with them at 25th. This is a sport afterall...not a beauty pageant...and winning must matter.

No way, the Big South gets 2 seeds and if CSU wins the league and does not get seeded then Coastal shouldn't either. However, the picture will be a little clearer after tomorrow. Most likely the CAA gets one seed, but there are wild scenarios where it could get 2, 3 or none. So, perhaps there are wild scenarios involving the Big South too.
If Coastal loses to Kennesaw St and/or Liberty, then I'd say we're out. But if we win the next two games, as does Charleston Southern, It'll be wild. It won't happen, b/c CSU will lose to Alabama. We'll still be ranked but, it wouldn't make sense to leave a Top 10 or 15 team out of the playoffs. CSU can still lose to Liberty.

Yeah we obviously will lose to Bama. But if we can beat Liberty we finish 9-2 and 9-0 in FCS. With all the top 15 teams that lost yesterday I think CSU and CCU can end up as top 10 teams.

Since we're new to this playoff stuff....how does this thing work? Top 8 appears to get a 1st round bye and home game. Is that based mostly on rank? And how do they determine who plays at home in 9-24 seeds??

Charleston Southern is headed to the FCS Playoffs. The Bucs clinched a share of the Big South Conference title and the program's first-ever national playoff berth with a 28-14 win over Kennesaw State on Saturday at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.

I'm not sure about all the criteria. But I think one is how much teams bid. I.E., we will pay the NCAA X% of the gate for the game.

As it is shaping out, for the Big South, it looks like if everything goes as it should (CSU beating Liberty and losing to Alabama, which won't hurt them, and CCU winning out) it looks as if CSU will squeeze a seed around the 7 or 8 range, and CCU will come very close but still get them a home 1st round game which is good. The top 8 seeds do not play in the 1st round, and host the 2nd round game against the winners of that field of 16 teams in the first round. CSU is guaranteed a home game (in this situation).

Here's a sample bracket posted today by a veteran NDSU fan from AGS.com:

The Citadel at CCU vs 1. JSU
UT-Martin at Chattanooga vs 8. Charleston Southern

Duquesne at JMU vs 5. William and Mary
EWU at SHSU vs 4. McNeese State

Towson at Richmond vs 3. ISUR
SUU at UNI vs 6. SDSU

Colgate at UNH vs 7. Portland State
Dayton at Fordham vs 2. NDSU

EWU at SHSU vs 4. McNeese State
Crap I hope not. I was thinking last night about how I really don't want McNeese to have to see Sam Houston State again this year. It's similar to the way I felt when McNeese beat Western Kentucky 38-13 during the 2002 regular season and I told my brother as we walked out that yeah McNeese made plays and won comfortably but that's a good team and I wouldn't want to play them again. And I really don't want to see EWU in a first round playoff game either. Can we PLEASE get somebody easy? Getting a seed then getting "rewarded" by either Sam Houston State or Eastern Washington in the first game would suck big time.

Very tough first game to play! That's the kind of teams that slip to that field of 16 after days like yesterday!

Congrats to Charleston Southern for winning the Big South and a berth in the playoffs. Absolutely crazy day yesterday. At this point, I see 2 seeds for the MVFC, and a seed for McNeese and for Jacksonville St. Jacksonville St. probably the #1 overall if they win out. The other 4 are unknown at this point.

My current guess has the possible candidates as:

Richmond, W&M, JMU, South Dakota St/Ill St.(whichever one is not one of the 2 MVFC above), CSU, Coastal, The Big Sky Champ(Southern Utah), Sam Houston St., and perhaps the Southern champ.

McNeese, Richmond, CSU, and CCU all have SOS's ranked below 70 in FCS. The committee has a history of rewarding undefeated, so McNeese definitely gets a seed and probably a top 4. Richmond has a solid win over JMU and I think the winner of their game with W&M gets a seed. CSU with quality wins over The Citadel and CCU gets one at 9-2. The problem for Coastal is their best win is against a fading WIU.

My projection:

JSU
McNeese
NDSU
SDSU
ISUr
Richmond or W&M
Chatty
CSU

One thing about Sam Houston State is that they might get knocked off by Central Arkansas then not make the playoffs. Hard to say if they'd still get selected at 7-4 but they'd have 6 D-I wins and probably the best D-I team they would have beaten would be currently 3-6 Stephen F. Austin. And it would not be a huge surprise to see Central Arkansas beat Sam Houston State. Central Arkansas got blasted by Samford in the first game of the season but they've been pretty impressive since. They were fairly competitive against Oklahoma State and McNeese beat them because of turnovers. Central Arkansas outgained McNeese 313 to 160 in total yards in that game. The game will be AT Central Arkansas so at this point it doesn't look like an automatic win for Sam Houston State at all.

I would say I hope Central Arkansas wins so there's no chance McNeese has to play Sam Houston State again but I really don't want to see McNeese have to play Central Arkansas again either.

Wow. A top 8 seed for CSU would be incredible.

What about if we don't get a top 8 seed....how likely is a 1st round home game? I know they have bids for it and our stadium is barely a high school caliber. I'm afraid we finish 9th or 10th and get sent packing cross country somewhere.

They try and keep the early games close regionally, so the travel probably wouldn't be that bad. Better to get the seed though. :thumb: Beat Liberty and you've got a good chance.

A home game yes. Playoffs? Nah...in 2005 we would've gone if BSC had the auto bid. Should've gone in 2013 but we laid a turd at GWU.

Just realized undefeated Harvard is ranked 13th (at least until new poll tomorrow ). With all the upsets they'll bump up to near 10th.

Ivy League doesn't participate in playoffs. Even better news for CSU and Coastal.

Not sure if they would be kind enough for a regular season rematch. But from a historical point, in 2006 App opened with CCU, 2007 JMU, 2008 and 2009 SC State. I think the logic is hoping that a shorter travel distance will bring more of an away crown, since first round games typically don't have very high attendance numbers.

I think Citadel vs CSU round 2 would be welcomed by both schools if anyone made a call and asked people close to the game.

The game would sell out Citadels stadium (it would HAVE to be played there) with probably a 20,000 crowd.

But...I could see Citadel @ Coastal more likely and maybe CSU vs Chattanooga or some other team down South.

Same metro area...as defined by US Census. City limits? No.

BTW...I'm calling a cease fire on Citadel trash talk. At least on my end for now. Yall have had an excellent season. And I'm only praying for a CSU vs Citadel playoff matchup because I'm off that weekend but cannot travel far...so that would be in Charleston either way...and it would be the most electric atmosphere anywhere in FCS that weekend. And...would create tremendous exposure for CSU which we as usual need.

Go Dogs...beat UTC!

Hey, I don't say Duke is in Chapel Hill - and theyre closer!

CSU has created its own exposure - you guys don't need a game at JHS for that now.

BTW if CCU, CSU, The Citadel and UTC all wind up on the same side of the bracket then at least half of us will be out before the quarters. It isnt possible, but I wish we would be spread out so both conferences would have an opportunity for a deep run - maybe meeting in the semis. That would be good exposure.

Yes it would. If somehow CSU and CCU or Chattanooga got seeded....then 2 of the 4 win 1st round games and ends up Coastal vs Citadel and CSU vs Chattanooga in 2nd round of 16....who knows...maybe CSU vs Citadel in the final 8. That's about the best shot for a matchup deep in the playoffs.

What's the deal with Chattanooga anyway? I know nothing about them. Spread offense? Good D??? Yalls offense is on a roll they're gonna have trouble stopping it. A Citadel win helps CSU so I'm a Dog fan this week.

Re: POSSIBLE SEEDING FOR BIG SOUTH?

Our offense was actually very flat against VMI- they only scored 1 touchdown. We kicked 5 field goals and the D scored 14. Our defense is lights out right now and they will need to be against Chatty because Huesman is very dangerous- the best QB in the SoCon.

Chatty is very balanced- probably the most balanced offense we will have seen thus far. Their defense was also projected to be the best in the SoCon but right now I think at least on paper ours is better

of course Chatty could come out and hang 35 or more on us so we'll see
