I was very surprised at how similar both teams are. I'll say this, the Big Sky as a whole may not like it if PSU and SUU are the only ones representing the conference in the playoffs due to the fact that neither one has that rabid, strong fan base, but I have a feeling both teams would represent the conference well in the playoffs. SUU has that big loss early in the season, but there's been a lot of football played since then.

Big Sky usually gets 3, but have no idea who would be 3rd.

Should be NAU but probably will be Montana.

A D-II win, one win against a top 25 team, and a two score loss to UC Davis? I don't think so, Tim.

Not to mention that UM has the head-to-head.

Agreed, totally gutsy call but they had momentum and should have gone for the tie and overtime. Such a close battle though. We HAVE to win next week against NAU now for outright conference championship. :king: My momma taught me to share but in this case I don't wanna. :pissed:

Especially since your team probably won't make the playoffs if they end up sharing. There's no way SUU can win a tiebreaker at 6-2 and their 7-4 resume is mediocre.

Sad, but perhaps true. My opinion, SUU was the best conference opponent I've seen this year, clearly the best defense I've seen. I sure hope they can beat NAU so they can go. I think they deserve it, and I think they could make some noise if given the chance.

If Montana beats Montana State I'd be shocked if they're not in the playoffs. They have a win over North Dakota State. Don't know who else from the Big Sky will be in. But if Montana finishes 7-4 with a win over North Dakota State I'd be shocked if they're not in a 24 team field.

The Big Sky is incredibly competitive this year.

Portland St. Is in

NAU / SUU winner is in
Montana / EWU winner is in

How does North Dakota get in? Do we think the Big Sky gets 4 if they win?

It could be anywhere from 2 to theoretically 6.

EWU - Probably in with a win, certainly out with a loss.

PSU - In and a seed with a win, in but no seed with a loss.

SUU - In for sure with a win (auto-bid), probably out with a loss.

NAU - Virtual lock with a win, probably out with a loss.

UMT - Virtual lock with a win, certainly out with a loss.

UND - Probably in with a win, certainly out with a loss. Their eclectic mix of notable wins and lousy other performances makes them hard to predict.

I think it'll be three: PSU, SUU, and Montana. Montana will likely host SUU in the first round.

I wonder if they would match up 2 BSC teams right off the bat. Even though they didn't play in regular season it seems odd to put them together so early ( assuming they get in). Might just depend on seeding I guess, but I hope SUU doesn't see Montana right away. Not for fear of losing, just wanting to see a different team.

Rumors we are hearing in Portland is that we are not assured of a playoff spot. Rumblings are that the Big Sky are going to get only two in, the SUU/NAU winner and either Montana OR Portland State. If the Viks can beat EWU, they are in. If they lose to EWU and Montana beats Montana State, the Griz will get the nod over the Viks. Why am I thinking this is 2006 all over again. :ohno:

I can't think of any good reason for the Big Sky to only get 2 in a 24 team field. :?

What rumors are these? The committee hasn't even met to decide the field yet, so how could there even be "rumblings"? :? I mean, no at-large contender is technically assured a playoff spot, but come on…

I can't imagine any 8-3 team from an upper-tier conference being denied this year.

The only way I can see it happen is if Montana, NoDak, and EWU all lose.

And with 2 FBS wins (especially the WSU win) I see it very unlikely PSU is left out regardless of win or lose on saturday.

No way does the Big Sky only get 2 teams in, especially in a 24 team field, minimum I see 3 teams getting in, maybe 4 and as mentioned:

-PSU I think gets in no matter what Win or Lose vs EWU, having 2 FBS wins including a 66-7 thrashing of North Texas on top of upsetting a good Washington State team, beating Montana and Montana State and beating SUU.

-Winner of SUU vs NAU will get in for sure, wish my T-Birds would have put it away last week but oh well cant dwell on it. Personally I feel we should get in ahead of Montana even if we lose (not a dig against the Griz however the schedule argument doesnt hold up anymore) however we dont have the reputation or fan base that the Griz have so we would probably get left out.

-Montana vs Montana State is pretty simple, if the Griz win they will probably get in thanks to thrasing EWU and beating their in state rival in back to back weeks. Now that their QB is healthy again if their offense can keep clicking they could be a serious threat in the playoffs.

If we are lucky enough to get a 4th team into the playoffs it would come down to SUU or EWU and I would have to go with my T-Birds over the Eagles. Against common opponents we thrashed them while they struggled and if they lose to Portland State it will be 3 losses in a row.

One tough game doesn't change the argument much. SUU has played 2 playoff contenders plus the FBS team (0-3). Montana has played 5 contenders (4-1).

Montana does have more questionable losses, but—If nothing else—the non-DI game puts SUU behind Montana if they're both 7-4.

"Rumblings" mainly, UM beats MSU, NAU beats SUU and EWU beats PSU. UM gets the autobid, NAU goes in and PSU's once stellar resume has losses in two of the last three games to non-playoff teams, and barely got a home win over another non-playoff team (assuming SUU is out with a loss to NAU).

You made it sound like there were rumors involving people who actually select the teams, or something.

SUU would only have 6 D1 wins if they lose to NAU. I don't think they have a shot if they lose. If both UND and EWU win then the fourth spot for the conference would be between them. Also, if EWU loses to PSU they also only have 6 D1 wins and are out.
