MSU ex-coach Rob Ash is a finalist.dbackjon wrote:Thundernuts wrote:To answer the questions, No....SUU does not require a Mormon coach. And as was mentioned, believe it or not, in Utah it is illegal for state schools to specify a hire based on a religion. (or any other protected class). Ed Lamb was not a Mormon himself. His wife and family was and he would attend church with them periodically but was not baptized a member himself. The only school that requires it is BYU, even though many of the coaches and staff of the other state schools like Utah, Utah State, Weber, Dixie, Snow, UVU (non-football playing school) have several Mormon coaches. WHittingham at Utah is a practicing member, so is Jay Hill at Weber. They are just the dominant religion in the state so naturally they show up a lot, however I wouldnt be surprised if deep down inside some AD's prefer it to boost recruiting within the state. Hope that helps.
Any updates on the coaching search?

SUU Athletic Director: From who?
SUU Athletic Dept Secretary: Some guy named Thundernuts
SUU Athletic Director: Umm, tell him I'm on the phone with the Pac 12.

SUU became avi and he applied before the WIU position was finalized. He applied and interviewed before his final interview at WIU.dbackjon wrote:SACCAT wrote:

He pulled out at WIU a couple days before WIU planned to decide. Was that because he wasn't going to get it? Maybe. Was it because he wanted the SUU job, in a conference he was familiar with, and may have already been told he was a finalist for? I wouldn't doubt it.

Im sure when he see the money SUU offers, he'll rethink the job. Im sure it's nothing like what he got at MSU. I think Lamb was only at $150k MAX, including benefits.
