What time zone are you in? If you are in the eastern time zone then T.W. voted at 10:16 and pm and 12:30 am.jcmanson wrote:So, tinkywinky voted at 9:16 pm and 11:30 pm. I guess we're going to allow that - which is fine by me, it's close enough.

Re: The FCS Elimination Game
Actually, Delaware is not a "primary state university" as you say. It is one of two universities (the other being Delaware State University) that receive funding from the State of Delaware. University of Delaware is also not a true public university, because it also receives private support. Quasi-public is probably the most apt term. We're fairly unique in that regard. I'm not sure why public even matters anyway, because the top four college endowments, and eight of the top ten, are all private schools.oduengineer wrote:That is why I mentioned Towson, another secondary state university. Del has a decent endowment for a primary state university, but it doesn't even compare with Virginia's primary university. It is suprisingly better than Md and Rutgers, both of which are in the $1/2B range.93henfan wrote:
Come and talk to the Delaware and Richmond peeps when your endowment is >$1B.
We're hung like billionaires.
With all that $ couldn't you build a more cohesive campus? I have been there many times and can't figure why campus is integrated with Newark so much.
Old Dominion's $175M endowment compares pretty well with FCS football schools (JMU $40M, Wagner $39M, Liberty $6.3M, Ga State $122M, Mo. State $42M, EWU $52M)
I'm glad that you find our endowment to be "decent". In fact, you'll find us smack dab between the Universities of Florida and Nebraska (far larger states in size, population, and enrollment) on the endowment list. Not bad for the second smallest state. I'm curious as to your mention of the University of Virginia. It does have a sizable endowment, so I'm surprised why you didn't choose to take advantage of that and enroll there?
I am not sure how to respond to your comments about building a "more cohesive campus" or that you "can't figure why campus is integrated with Newark so much"? Those two statements in and of themselves seem contradictory. If you read any of the major college periodicals, you'll see that UD is consistently rated as one of the most beautiful campuses in the country. Perhaps you've only ever seen the football stadium, which is located a couple of miles south of the main part of campus, or only ever driven down Newark's Main Street, which wouldn't give you any real flavor for the campus? There's also quite a disparity in size with what you're probably used to with ODU. ODU's campus is 188 acres, while UD's Newark campus is 2,311 acres and the University just purchased the 272 acre former Chrysler Assembly Plant, which it will be converting into a medical and research and development campus. I can see where a main campus fourteen times larger than your own could throw off your frame of reference a bit.
If you are ever in Newark again, I would suggest you stroll The Green, which is really the heart of the campus. If you're ever in Newark again, shoot me a PM and I'd be glad to give you a personal tour.
Here's a little preview of what you may have missed. We get all giddy about our campus, much the same way ODU fans get all giddy about their clamshell:

Re: The FCS Elimination Game
Instead of "primary" perhaps I should have used "flagship." UD is the flagship univ in Del in much the same way UVA is in Virginia. UVA receives substantially more funding than ODU, JMU, VCU, GMU etc in Virginia, and UD clearly receives more $ than Del State. My point is that for a primary university your endowment will generally always be greater than a secondary institution like ODU. And yes, I am a grad of UVA as well (engineering, 1995), that is why I compared UD to UVA. Your campus can't hold a candle to Virginia's.93henfan wrote:Actually, Delaware is not a "primary state university" as you say. I've been to both campuses (UVA and UD obviously). I can't say UVA's is notably better, to be quite honest. Both are gorgeous.

Duquesne (Doo-KANE) supporters are well aware that the Blue Devils have beaten the Dukes each of the three times the teams have played , but NEC supporters are not particularly pleased with the way CCSU tarnished NEC honor by losing the Gridiron Classic to the PFL's Butler Bulldogs last season. (However, as a Butler fan I must admit that the Connecticut boys played a good, tough game in defeat. )
I'll be looking forward to the CCSU vs. Doo-KANE game on October 9, 2010. It should be a good one!

Duquesne's campus (squeezed up on The Bluff between downtown Pittsburgh, the Monongahela River, and the brand-new Consol Center, the new home of the Pittsburgh Penquins) is only 49 acres! Duquesne's campus even has a four-lane traffic tunnel running underneath it.
