Better angle from a previous post, top of the stadium/above the pressbox

ODU, it was posted on the zone that the lights are so powerful that they won't actually have all of them on because they'd be too bright (for home side, I-81 southound travelers, I'm not sure which or both). Not sure if that's true or not but that point was raised when someone mentioned the lights did not appear to be very large. Apparently they are very powerful though.

I'd assume so because those lights are really high up and doesn't look there is a lot of them. :?

I'd estimate that it would be about 2-3 solid minutes of laughing while some purple clad douche bag falls down all those stairs.

Don't let the size of the stadium misconstrue how big the lights really are. I think someone reported that the previous lights on that side had like 90 something bulbs and this structure has 120+ ... not to mention they are even stronger. You have one main core on top of the press box and two equal-sized structures on either side of the press box (you can see both if you look close enough on the aerials. They are apparently going to be very, very strong and bright.

Clearly the best half-stadium in FCS, easily surpassing former title-holder YSU.

We were going for for three quarters. Can you at least give us two thirds?

No no no lol.. That's not how it works.. JMU may have took the edge for that best half stadium, but I still will love Stambaugh!

I've driven by new Bridgeforth a few times now and the stadium (side) is absolutely massive; pictures don't really do the size justice.

Not to be negative, but how big can it be? It's still only holding 25k. Are the aisles that big?

I drive by M&T Bank Stadium every day. The new JMU stadium is impressive, but it ain't THAT big.

It does look big. Weird that it'll only seat 25K. It'll be interesting to see if JMU can even fill that. We'll probably hear all kinds of stories about sell-outs with no pictures showing the massive empty sections, ala NASCAR's wizard of oz campaign.

25k is their marketing angle..actual capacity is closer to 26.5

That said, I'd be surprised if we sold out more than one game this year. This was designed to support future growth, not to meet today's demand. Would be pretty irresponsible to expand a stadium, only to continue selling out....like the brand NEW high school nearby, completed 2 years ago, and they're already bringing in trailers. :ohno:

Seriously, though, it's not that big. But, if you're used to driving along that part of 81 regularly, it looks massive in comparison to what is normally there...aka trees and the top part of the old stadium. The scoreboard being on that side adds to the size perception too.

Yeah, over on the zone we've seen people state 25, and then others claim actually closer to 27k.

I'm guessing around 17+k one side, 3.5k endzones, 6+k other side.

Thing is, with big side about 1k chairback, about 1k club (extra wide chairback with extra leg room, cupholders), club suites, club patio, press box, its probably 3.5-4x as big as the smaller side.

If did the same thing on the other side (bigger lower side and a second deck) and completely bowled in would be over 40k.

From the reaseting map that was posted at the end of reseating last month for season ticket holders on June 14:
Image
looks like at that point had sold about 80% of the chairback and club seats. Have continued to take more season ticket orders since then. Individual game orders are filled later.

If JMU doesn't come up with a way to sell the remaining chairback and club seats individually there can't be a sellout. Even if JMU comes up with a way to sell the remaining chairback and club seats individually I agree with 95' about the sellout thing. I think MIGHT sellout opener, and if that happens I bet butts in seats would be in the low 20sk, as JMU is pulling out all the stops to say the game is a sellout on paper like giving away 2 extra tickets to all season ticket holders who ordered by Dec 31st.

95' is exactly right about being built for future growth, not current demand. If JMU sold out 3 games like a lot of JMU folks who have I think are wearing purple colored shades when it comes to predicting the attendance for the 5 home games this year, that would mean JMU didn't build the stadium big enough. If JMU is at least 5-4 coming into the last home game vs URI on Nov 12 that will mean will be in the playoff picture for all 5 home games. An attendance avg of between 20-21k would still be a 20-25% increase over last yrs about 16.5k, which would be great and nothing to complain about (although some kool aid drinkers would) and that's about what I expect.

Nice work on not taking the bait too badly on my last comment. It's fun fucking with the JMU crowd.

Note: I will be heckling every non-sellout this season, so make sure you give away those empties to the local Boys and Girls club, etc. Just call up the Tampa Bay Bucs front office. They can give you tips on how to make it look like your fan base cares.

This is always an option as well:

I think the goals were 1) build a top tier FCS stadium, check 2) build a stadium big enough for homecoming and parents weekend, check 3) build a stadium one reasonably quick expansion away from 40,000 should a decent fbs offer come our way, check...

We can now sit back and expect a consistent top 5 FCS ranking and deep playoff runs with an ocaasional NC thrown in and wait for the phone to ring...an can live with that for f years.

Wait a minute - I thought this thread was just about upgrading the stadium. If you're going to consistently be a top 5 FCS team with deep playoff runs, does that mean that Mickey's been fired? If so, I think we should start a new thread on that rather than burying it here in a stadium thread.
