I believe they will stick with 11 this year. I haven't heard about a 12th game. With 5 games at home I'm sure if they are still looking it would be a home game.

It was a good thing we fired that coach. Wes Mier had gone 10-33 as the head coach and honestly he was just terrible. SUU was absoluitley retarted when asking a highschool coach to come up and become the heaad coach at SUU. Now in Ted Lamb we will have alot of experience and hopefully he will bring some of that succses from San Diego to SUU.

University of North Dakota 2008 Schedule

Post by dakotadan »

Thu, Aug 28 Texas A&M-Kingsville Grand Forks, N.D. 7 p.m.
Sat, Sep 06 St. Cloud State Grand Forks, N.D. 1 p.m.
Sat, Sep 13 Wisconsin-LaCrosse Grand Forks, N.D. 1 p.m.
Thu, Sep 18 @ Idaho State at Pocatello, Idaho 7:35 p.m.
Sat, Sep 27 @ Southeastern Louisiana at Hammond, La. 6 p.m.
Sat, Oct 04 OPEN TBA TBA
Sat, Oct 11 OPEN TBA TBA
Sat, Oct 18 Western Washington Grand Forks, N.D. 1 p.m.
Sat, Oct 25 @ UC-Davis * at Davis, Calif. 8 p.m.
Sat, Nov 01 @ Southern Illinois at Carbondale, Ill. 2 p.m.
Sat, Nov 08 Southern Utah * Grand Forks, N.D. 7 p.m.
Sat, Nov 22 @ South Dakota * at Vermillion, S.D. TBA
* Conference Games

Not the greatest schedule for our first year of DI football but it could be worse. Two of the FCS schools that UND had apparently set up home games with quite some time ago backed out on us. Also, UND agreed to go back down to USD for the second year in a row. Unfortunately that is why we are going to end up with 3 DII, a DIII and only 1 FCS school on our home schedule. The road schedule isn't too bad.

And it's already starting to sound like we have a pretty good 2009 schedule setting up.

Yeah, i think he made a mistake, North Dakota probably will fill out one of those bye weeks with cal poly, they have to anyways because they are members of the same conference.

I'm not sure but I don't think Cal Poly has to schedule them in their first year because they are a no counter this year. Cal Poly's schedule isn't up yet but I think USD will play one or two of the current GWFC members and UND will play the other. It would make it to tough on the current GWFC members to have to play both non counters this year especially if any of those teams already have a DII on their schedule.

SUUTbird wrote:Alright, now i know that i am the fan of a team that is supposedly not good at all. Well all of that is going to change now with the new head coach Ted Lamb. He was the recruiting and special teams coach at San Diego and look how good their special teams and players at San Diego are. That is the future of SUU football and i can garuntee they will do alot better then last year. Taking the idea from Grizfan88 im going to post the shcedual and what i think.

Southern Utah Football 2008
-Sat, Aug 30 @Air Force: SUU will lose the season opener hopefully putting some points on the board and giving them a chance to gel as a team. Score: 38-14 Air Force

-Sat, Sep 06 Adams State: SUU will win its first game since 2006 in a lopsided victory over the Grizzlies.
Score: 42-10 SUU

-Sat, Sep 13 @Montana: After playing the Griz in a close game last year (was alot closer then the score showed) I belive that SUU will nearly pull off the upset against a rebuling Montana Team. Score: 31-28 Montana

-Sat, Sep 20 Northern Arizona: SUU will win in a close matched game. Home field advantage and a better T-Bird defense is key to winning this game. Score: 24-17 SUU

-Sat, Sep 27 @Texas State: SUU will win in a game containing two teams that struggled in 2007. SUU will need to pull off the victory on the road with consistent offense effeciency. Score: 28-20 SUU

-Sat, Oct 04 Youngstown State: SUU almost beat the Penguins on their home field in 2007. I see the long road trip being the factor of the Penguins loss. Score: 23-17 SUU

-Sat, Oct 11 *@UC Davis*: Conference for the T-Birds, I see a closer game then there have been in the past, but i see UC-Davis winning this one. Score: 34-21 UC-Davis

-Sat, Oct 25 *@Cal Poly *: Last Year Cal Poly underestimated the T-Birds and almost lost. I dont see that happening this year with a good Cal Poly team. Score: 35-20 Cal Poly

-Sat, Nov 08 *@North Dakota *: In 2007 The Sioux came into Cedar City and mopped the floor with Southern Utah. I dont see that happening this year with a young team at North Dakota, SUU will avenge last years loss. Score: 35-27 SUU

-Sat, Nov 15 *@South Dakota *: Being it South Dakotas first year in the FBS conference and considering they arent as good as North Dakota, i see the Coyotes being whipped by the Thunderbirds. Score: 42-24 SUU

-Sat, Nov 22 Northern Iowa: The only reason i see why Northern Iowa scheduled them this year was to get a final win in case they needed it to get into the playoffs. Might be a game for the first quarter. Score: 49-28 UNI

Overall SUU record for 2008: 6-5 (2-2 in conference play) A much improved record from last year.
I think the prevailing thought on SUU is not that they were that bad, but that the AD just scheduled them into a no win situation quite literally. Also I like the insight for the schedule. Nice work there.

UND and Cal-Poly originally had agreed to play this fall but the GWFC decided it would be better if they didn't. He was worried about Cal-Poly's playoff chances being hurt by playing both UND and USD during their transition year. Also, UND apparently had games against Butler and San Diego scheduled and both apparently backed out in January. This left UND scrambling for 3 games very late into the scheduling process.

The whole GWFC will play each other in 2009 and hopefully UND is able to get San Diego and/or Butler back on the schedule for then too.

Gracias to Super Hornet for recognizing Liberty as something more than a bump in the road for YSU.

Two non-DI games? Getting a bid will be near impossible with that.

Yeah, we realize we need to come close to running the table to get an at large. We had a MEAC school back out on us during the offseason and had to fill the hole with a second DII. Until we get an auto bid we realize the auto bid leagues will continue to collude themselves to snatch up all of the bids possible. 2010 can't get here fast enough.

TBird, while I love the enthusiasm (and I don't agree with the statement that SUU is considered crappy), I think you're a little off the mark on some of these scores...I don't think the Montana game will be that close this year, nor will the YSU game....both teams underestimated SUU last year....I don't think it'll happen twice. I also don't think you'll beat NAU or UND, and the Cal Poly game will be a rout.

So, I predict 4-7, 1-3 in conference play....not good, but much better than last year.
