If the original Fighting Sioux had used that offense then there may now be a fight over their football teams nickname of "White guys from Europe".SUUTbird wrote:On a side note about UND it looks like from the videos on fighitngsioux.com it appears that they will be running the pistol offense this year as well. This offense is apparently getting popular since these follwing teams are now running it exclusively or it will be a large part of their offense (that i know of):
-Portland State
-North Dakota

thats a typical comment from siouxsports.com.Ill tell u one thing, the indians wont be getting the free dish and the masters degrees handed to them at UND anymore!

You really can't talk any shit. NDSU had 9 wins and UND had 6.JBB wrote:They were pretty proud about their "Princeton offense" in basketball this year too, but unfortunately for them, they had about the worst D1 team in the country, literally. JBB will take any chance to say anything bad about UND that he can. Almost every post you will see on here will somehow relate to UND......CatMom wrote:JBB wrote:They were pretty proud about their "Princeton offense" in basketball this year too, but unfortunately for them, they had about the worst D1 team in the country, literally. Or if you really want to throw a dig in there, The Fighting Crow would be excellent.SUUTbird wrote:I dont see how the Pistol offense is a "trick offense". Lots of schools are starting to either run it exclusively or incorporate it into their offensive system. The offense allows the benefits of the spread but gives it a much stronger running game. Also you can run the option out of it making it a very dangerous offense to face.
Also Ronbo that is not a bad idea (except being serious this time). Why not go out and find an indian tribe that would support being the mascot of the university? Other tribes in North Dakota were:
-The Chippewa
-Arikara
-Mandan
-Hidatsa
Or if they wanted to could go out and use another tribes name that would be supported such as the:
-Cheyenne
-Iroquois
-Blackhawk
-Nez Perce
-Cherokee

If by teams you mean UND, then I guess you do. You very seldom post in any thread other than a NDSU thread unless it is a UND thread at which you can not resist taking a shot at them. Must you turn every UND thread into a pissing contest? It is getting old and tired. We get it, you do not like UND.JBB wrote:I dont see how the Pistol offense is a "trick offense". You can do that out of most any offense if you have the talent.
I also keep my comments directed towards teams and not people. You have no high horse hambone, you take almost any chance you get to take shots at me. Not very becoming.
But hey, I still like the Moops!
Very true however it still doesnt mean that it is a trick offense. This offense unlike the standard spread shotgun formation allows a much more direct and better running attack and at the same time keep the threat of a pass happy offense. Just because UND is running it doesnt mean it is a trick offense, if anything that is just a very ignorant comment as SloStang pointed out to just bash UNDJBB wrote:You can do that out of most any offense if you have the talent.!
Well from reading what he posted slostang appears to know you quite well. He was spot on, unless I have also been following you areound and bashing you. You are a one trick pony on the boards JBB. You may not like anyone pointing that out to you but are the quintessential bad NDSU fan when it comes to that kind of shit. It's OK, we all bash our rivals.JBB wrote:What does slostang know?![]()
He has been hassling me for years. Maybe he and his buddy hambone should open a chat room or something? Because I am less then impressed with "the pistol" is certainly no reason to get out of joint like those 2. My comments are certainly as valid as theirs even though Im not singing praises.
The pistol sounds like a way for a team to maximize a lack of talent. Its just a way to open the field, maybe confuse a defense to get your one or two decent playmakers a chance. Talent will win out over scheme any day.
They are working with a no huddle. They wont be a factor this year outside of the GWC pistol or no pistol. They went 1 for 1 last season against the NAIA and didnt add a thing this off season. I dont think there will be an at large team coming from the GWC no matter what UND changes their name to.
I think they should stay away from Native American references either directly or indirectly. A nice bird name might work like the Prairie Chickens or the Pink "Fighting" Flamingos. Their school colors are pink and white.

because the only "people" qualified to decide if something is offensive or not are the "people" being portrayedWildcat Ryan wrote:Personally I dont see the difference with naming your team the "Fighting Sioux" and naming your team the "Vikings" or the "Trojans" Its the same thing, a nickname representing a group of people.

Bullshit. A civilized society has way too many people that can be offended by any fucking thing. The fact that we are supposed to feel some guilt because a people were conquered in the past is a manufactured guilt of recent times. Being called the Fighting Sioux sure doesn't seem to be demeaning them. Fuck it, let their culture fall even further into obscurity.OSBF wrote:because the only "people" qualified to decide if something is offensive or not are the "people" being portrayedWildcat Ryan wrote:Personally I dont see the difference with naming your team the "Fighting Sioux" and naming your team the "Vikings" or the "Trojans" Its the same thing, a nickname representing a group of people.

whites have no say as to weather native american mascots are offensive or in poor taste, only the native americans being "used" can make that call
And any civilized society would respect their wishes
As an example lets look at Illinois and their "Chief". From the outside to the casual observer it looked pertfectly honorable and respectful, that is until you look a little deeper.Ursus A. Is your team trying to dishonor the Redbird by naming itself after that animal? Because that is the horseshit you are eating believing that UND is doing something offensive with their choice of name.
