Worst: Steve Mooshagian, 2003-2006 (Worst coach EVER!). This guy did absolutely nothing during his short tenure, except complain.

Herky,

I agree Coach Mattos was our best coach. Great Man, Great Coach, Great Hornet. Rest in peace Coach Mattos.

While Mooshagian is a proven loser at 11-33 (.250%) in three seasons we unfortunately have a had a even bigger loser.
Glenn Brady 1976-1977 was 2-18-1 for a blazing winning percentage of (.119%)! It's Brady's mess that Coach Mattos was hired to clean up.
Agree about Mattos. I didn't know anything about him until I read an article on what he did for the program. Sac State would probably have went the way of the other CSU's that dropped football if it wasn't for the foundation he built for the program.

Moosh is the worst. He was at Sac for 4 years, and I was a student for all four of those years. It was miserable. No idea why they thought a receivers coach for the Bengal's was head coaching material for a D-1 school. :ohno:

It took Wilder two years at ODU to win a game (hired in 2007), so obviously he is the worst coach.

Best: Sonny Holland, 1971 - 1977 two Big Sky Championships 72 & 76 and one DII National Title 1976. Overall record 47-27

Worst: Earl Solomonson, 1987 - 1991 overall record 15-40. Set program back many years that we are still trying to recover from in some areas in Montana.

Honorable Mention to Sonny Lubick. Didn't have a steller record, but did win a Big Sky Championship in 1979 and it was his recruits that won the National Title in 1984. Jury is still out on Rob Ash. Like what we are seeing so far, but time will tell.
Can you please elaborate? I am not familiar with this name and the damage he did to MSU.
Sonny Lubick is the best coach for Colorado State. :thumb: Great coach, shame he doesn't get as much recognition as an all time great like bigger name coaches do.

Lol, yes, I am a dork. If you heard the story for why I'd like CSU you'd think I was even more of a dork.

No. I'm from Florida. But there are some reasons why I took to liking CSU...

1. My NHL team is the Avalanche. I like them because I liked their Jerseys and used them as my team as a kid on NHL games on the Nintendo 64. Therefore I have a thing for Colorado teams (Broncos, Rockies, Nuggets).

2. I was sick of the Florida/Florida State rivalry so I wanted to pick a new team to root for, so I said "Whoever I see on TV next, I'll watch the game, and whoever wins is my team" That Thursday night, CSU and Air Force were on ESPN2, and the Rams won, so they were my team.

3. Dale Layer, former CSU BBall coach, is now Liberty's BBall coach.

That's about it. :thumb:

Gil Dobie wrote:Nso the best coach would be Darrell Mudra, who turned the program around in the early 1960's and won the first of 8 National Championships.
'tis interesting how many schools would include Mudra on their "best coaches" list.
UNI, EIU, NDSU, WIU perhaps (dunno if he'd qualify as BEST, but he did a good job there)
don't know enough about the history of the Adams State program to judge how his tenure there fits in (his first head coaching gig)
