I think the Cats will get their 180 yds/game rushing. They may put up some yards passing. Lots of teams have been able to have their normal day on the stats sheet but NDSU has learned that the purpose of defense is to stop the other team from scoring.

Take a look at the ratios of scoring offense/opponents scoring defense.

2.06 for NDSU

0.97 for MSU.

It is going to be much easier for NDSU to get its 24 pts than it is for MSU to get its 35. This spread is large and in favor of the BISON. Add to that the Turn Over advantage and our kick return game and this one looks like an NDSU win.

They do. MVFC physical is just another word for slow, I'll hit ya when I get there. I've seen a few NDSU games this year and I never once said to myself "Wow, those fuckers are particularly PHYSICAL!"

WIU is all the MVFC has in the field where that could be said.

That being said I think that the Segars kid and the QB (if he's on) could be a problem that will need to be dealt with for NDSU. The receivers can have a very good game if what's his name gets the ball near them.

Gratzek will be the best interior defensive lineman the Bobcats have seen all year.

Neither team is gonna blow out either team. Anybody who throws out a blowout prediction doesn;t know squat about either team.

So are you going to tell me that EWU and MSU rolled every weak team they played...If you are going to set this high standard I certainly hope so
Just having a little fun with Superhornet/JBB's passion.

I think the MVC and BSC are year in and year out very similar in the level of competition. That being said, the MVC had no clear cut dominant team this year and UNI's and WIU's performances yesterday indicate it might be a little down. So I will give a strong edge to a BSC Champion MSU team with one divisional loss playing at home to a 3rd place MVC team with four losses in the division that plays in a dome and is on the road.

But for obvious reasons I really do hope NDSU wins and it's certainly not outside the realm of possibility.

OK red zone efficency

MSU offense 88% ranked #8 vs NDSU defense 80% ranked #70
NDSU offense 71% ranked #97 vs MSU defense 68% ranked #8

Looks like MSU has a pretty big edge in both of those matchups
still think is gonna be pretty easy to get your 24 points?

Excellent point.

I looked it over after I read your post.

NDSU allows 12 rushing TDs, 4 passing TDs and 17 FGs. Thats not Delaware good, 5-8-4, but it sure is Montana good, 12-12-6.

In the end, MSU might be more efficient in the red zone as a per cent of opportunities but teams are getting there more often and scoring more points. The Bobcats have allowed 184 points NDSU 161.

This differential cant be avoided. NDSU has been trading FGs for TDs all season and keeping games close because of it.

Based on this interpretation red zone is a wash at best but leaning to the BISON. We are talking about a potential 15 pt differential in favor of the BISON.

Rushing a wash

Passing NDSU +48

FG NDSU -33

NDSU BISON Net +15

I see SOS as equal, but a slight NDSU push.

I see home field as neutral. Only 12.000 and NDSU has won in Minnesota, Kansas and Central Michigan etc.

I see a tight game. You cant be comfortable when playing an explosive offense like MSU.

KEY: pressure on QB, disruption of passing game.

Been hearing that all year

But you have some good points otherwise. I expect a pretty close game but one the Cats will win in the end.

Oh I updated the sheet to include red zone efficiency

I have no stake in this game so let me just say:

stats don't win games. let 'em play it out on the field.

I think at this time of year with the weather being what it is you can throw a lot stats out the door. Passing games are going to be limited to short to intermediate attacks.

NDSU has a massive offensive line avg 300 lbs across the board and their freshman OT is very mobile. They come right at you (like last years Griz teams) and you have to gear up to stop the run/screen game. The one thing that was mentioned during the game was that Robert Morris did not sub out their defensive line all game or did it on a limited basis. MSU defensive line goes 2-3 deep and we sub a lot. I think that it will be important that the linebackers fill their running lanes effectively. It looked to me that the QB locked onto #81 a ton (he is talented receiver). Their QB looked to me like Mitchell (from EWU) looked liked earlier in the year where his timing was just off with his receivers. MSU has faced power running teams before and have done alright.

Offensively there is really nothing that scares me about NDSU. Just have to gear up for a very physical ball game.

When MSU takes the field they will have to be aware that NDSU's defensive line does a good job getting their hands up in the passing lane. MSU doesn't really have a power run game but will stretch the play from side to side looking for a crease. We do a pretty good job passing blocking and getting the Qb on the edges to make plays. It seemed to me the NDSU's defensive line really controlled the line of scrimmage against R. Morris and allowed their linebacker to run free to make the play. The plays the R. Morris was successful in running is a specialty of the Bobcats so it will be an interesting battle.

One of the key's for NDSU's defense is if they can get pressure with just the 4 dlineman. In a lot of the games this year, we've been pretty successful in getting pressure with just the 4 dlineman. It's more important with mobile/dual threat QB's. Let's the linebackers run free and make a play.

It will also be interesting to see how many hits we can get on MSU's QB. If he's scrambling around in the pocket, I like our chances of knocking him a little silly. Most QB's we've faced this year, we've been able to put some good hits on.

As far as stopping MSU's running game, our true fresh strong safety #20 Colton Heagle is going to play a huge role. He's started five games now and has something like 50 tackles. He's real aggresive and has ridiculous closing speed. Also, he somehow murders people on the field. I've never seen a 190 lb kid hit the way he does. It's fun to watch. He's had more highlight type hits in his first 5 games, than most players get starting for four years.

Most of the QB's in the MVFC are mobile/dual threat guys. So, at least we are ready for mobile QB. I;m sure on the first drive MSU will probably score. For some reason, we can't stop teams on the opening drive. The mobile QB's end scrambling on 3rd and long and picking up a couple first downs and then we end up giving them 3. Our d-coor has done a fabulous job making in game adjustments, but that damn first drive gets us almost every game.

Oh, SH!T. if we score on the first drive we are done, we usualy need to get behind 2 td's before we get going

So you got this SS that has played (according to stats) 12 games and has 57 tackles. That's 4.75 per game. hm.....sounds about normal to me. And if your SS is having those kinds of numbers, seems to me receivers or RB's are getting beyond your line.

So how many more comparisons are we going to have between now and Saturday? Player by player? Can I keep track? I love this shit.

Yes, Heagle has started the last five games and has 48 tackles and 6 tackles for loss in those five games. He is more of run stuffing safety and will come out on some passing downs.

yeah Gil, I understood that. I was replying to the "he has something like 50 tackles" part.
I also know he has 48 of those in those 5 games but, as I said, if your SS is having those kinds of numbers, seems to me receivers or RB's are getting beyond your line.

I can sit back, watch, and look up stats all day, for both teams. None of it will matter in the long run.

From what I saw on Saturday, he was making a few tackles near the line of scrimmage, near the sidelines. He does have 6 tackles for losses also. 28 tackles in the last 5 games that he started.
