Look missy. When someone today says CAA that means CAA now and A10 in the past.... no need to get all technicrazy saying there was no CAA is 2002 just cause it was under a different banner then. As for all this comparing the CAA to BCS people... thats bull crapCatMom wrote:The CAA does and I never expect the SLC to get 3 in the playoffs, thus I used a generalization (example)89Hen wrote: You absolutely implied that the CAA gets preferential treatment when your conference doesn't. So OK, when was the last time a Southland had 7 DI wins and didn't make the playoffs?
Looking back, it would seem the only Southland team to not make the playoffs this century with 7 DI wins was SFA in 2003. They went 7-4. Villanova also went 7-4 (all DI) that year and also didn't make the playoffs.
It behooves me to say it but, some of you CAA fans are just like the FBS AQs. You just don't see it cause you have the same kind of blinders on. (boy is this going downhill fast)
I can sit here and look at both and actually see the similarities. The rhetoric is the same.
(FWIW - There was no CAA in 2002 and the SLC had UL-M. And if you are so stuck on thinking my original post was about the SLC...had we beaten SLU last year, and gone 8-3, I would not have wanted TXST in the playoffs. We weren't good enough, but it would have been a good/better season...for us.)

I didn't' say winning the conference made it a good year, for UNI that is an average year. All I said is not winning the conference is a fail of a season.UNHWildCats wrote:being conf champion for one of the top conferences in FCS and then being one and done is a failclenz wrote:Anything short of a conference championship is a fail.
Considering all of the questions coming into this season I'd give UNI a B for a performance. Now, with what we have coming back next year anything other than a title is a fail...and yes I'm prepared for that F

Harvard has won at least 7 games each year for the past 10 years. That's a mighty tough "floor" for performance.
However, given the sad lack of playoff action, I consider a good season as winning the Ivies.
Beating Penn and winning the "Big 3" title are runner-ups, I guess.

Winning the conference title and winning at least one playoff game is a good year to me.

Right now, I'd would say that a winning season would be an accomplishment for me.
Anything else would be icing on the cake. (OOC wins, contending for a conference title)

I feel like its worth pointing out that that post is the first use of the phrase "Look missy..." on this entire board. I do hope it is not the last.UNHWildCats wrote:Look missy. Thread-killer extraordinaire.
Re: What Do You Consider a Good Season...
I consider ODU's last two seasons good. Heading into the Colonial next year, 5-6 (2-6 CAA) would be a good season. Anything less would be a slight disappointment...anything better would be completely amazing.

Re: What Do You Consider a Good Season...
My being a fan of Portland State goes back a long ways, when we were good under Walsh, so these last few years have been tough. Because of where we are now, this is a good year heading into next season...
4 wins=good year
.500 season=better year
top 4 conference finish=great year
any appearance in the polls during the year=even better year
anything above that would be outstanding.
Some other "added bonuses"...
beating the Griz
beating both Davis and Sacramento in the same year
holding Weber State under 40 points

I am seriously sorry to hear that. Nobody should be put in a position where 4 wins is OK.JALMOND wrote:4 wins=good year

Re: What Do You Consider a Good Season...
I tend to agree. Where we were when Walsh left, a 4 win season would have been totally unacceptable. Really anything less than top 3 in the conference would have been a lost season. But after three season of chaos under Glanville, it is what it is. The feeling is that Burton can get us back there but it will take time. As a fan, I think next year we have the capabilities to do what Western Illinois and the like did this year. But realistically, 4 wins would be a good step forward (with room to revise the idea of a good season, of course).89Hen wrote:I am seriously sorry to hear that. 1) Winning season
2) No major injuries that cripple a whole unit (ie linebackers, or cornerbacks)
3) The young guys improved as the season went on

Don't you mean the "UD Invitational"?jd of de wrote:Good goal but Wesley is pretty good here lately89Hen wrote: How about an in-state win?Or did you mean the Battle for the Rt 1 Trophy
I would love for Wesley to grow a pair and move up to DII. Then we could have a crosstown rival as well.
