UNI88 wrote:NDSU and UNI are the obvious choices based on 2010 and what they have coming back. It's a little bit of a crapshoot after that so I went with YSU because I think they might be building something good there. Next possibility was SIU but I wonder if they're slowly going backwards without Kill and his recruits. WIU has a history of coming out of nowhere and shocking the conference and then disappearing again and I think that will happen again next year with the loss of Barr (and I really wish they would step back up on a more regular basis because I grew up 45 minutes from Macomb and I would love to see the UNI/WIU rivalry really heat up). In St is promising and I hope they do well but I have to see a little more to put their name in the top 3. SDSU loses too much @ QB. Ill St and Mo St always have potential but seem to disappoint.
Totally agree with your assesment....I think either YSU or Ill St will be the surprise team. I think the MVFC will be extremely tough next year with a lot of young squads last year gaining that valuable experience......really you could make a case for most of the teams having the potential to contend for the conference title.

The conference championship will come down to October 29th when UNI visits the Fargo Dome. I see both teams coming in with maybe 1 conference loss each. I won't predict the winner because in my opinion, it could go either way. Should be a great game.

UNI, NDSU, SIU in that order. I'm not going to be an arrogant homer and pick NDSU. The Bison have to beat the champ to be the champ. YSU plays at UNI, NDSU, & SIU. It will be tough to win any off those games so I can't pick them as my sleeper pick. Ill St. could be contending for a top 3 spot in the conference. The most consistant team will win the conference.

The most consistent and the one who doesn't get decimated by injuries. Seems like every year there is at least one team that just gets smoked by injuries....last year it was SIU and a few years ago it was us. I really hope UNI and NDSU stay healthy and don't lose any key players, so we can really see how it shakes out on the field. It would not surprise at all if another team other than UNI or NDSU won the conference though, although at this point UNI and NDSU would be the logical picks with both teams losing very little to graduation. Right now I give the nod to UNI until we can get some consistent qb play. I do think Jensen will be much improved next year...the main thing is for him to stay healthy.

Just hope that it is UNI is the preseason pick to win the conference because they haven't got that pick right for several years now.

I agree with this, but I also think that the majority of the conference lost very little to graduation overall.

Yes. WIU graduates a lot, I think.

SIU will be in the same boat as UNI, lots of young players with significant pt back, but ? at QB.

This is why the conference should be much better this coming year. I wouldn't be suprised to see 3 teams in the postseason again, and MAYBE the conference champs being one of the top 5 seeds. :thumb:

It's going to be better, but still might be a situation where the champ has two conference losses.

According to ValleyFootball.org, the MVFC Offensive POY was Matt Barr (who graduates). Not Tirrel Rennie... :coffee:

Whoops, you're right. Rennie was 2nd team all-conf QB, and was Newcomer of the year.

Rennie is a solid dual threat qb and will be a candidate for MVFC Offensive POY in 2011. I was at the game last year against the Bison and he ran all over us. He's a true play-maker

All that proves to me is that he wasn't good enough to beat out players that weren't limited to one grade classification.

With our defense last year we would have easily been blown out by UNI if he could throw like typical UNI qb's.

SIU's most likely candidate, imo, would be All-American FS Mike McElroy who was granted a medical redshirt after missing last season due to injury.

Offense is unsettled at the skill positions right now, but the entire two-deep o-line chart returns. Shariff Harris could have a good year just by running where the blocking takes him.

DJ McNorton is NDSU's best candidate offensively. On defense it could be anyone, but I would say defensive end Coulter Boyer. Boyer lead the team with 10 sacks, 13 TFL, and had 58 total tackles. He should have another great year.

Not sure anyone on YSU's defense is deserving of any award for next year. On offense, look for Adaris Bellamy or Jamaine Cook at RB or Kurt Hess at QB.

He also had a INT returned for a TD.

I'm still going with UNI the top, Just off of last year and what we return I'll put NDSU 2nd, from there down its going to be interesting...hell from 1-9 its going to be interesting as this year will be different than last but WIU is at the bottom without Barr. ISU-B might be good or they could also fall flat on their butts

All i know is 2 months till our Spring game
