I know you never said Quick was bad. Nobody said Edwards was bad either. His numbers are better because he plays in a pass-happy offense and even though I am biased, I think Quick is a better receiver that does not play in the kind of offense that will always show it statistically. Just my opinion.mlbowl wrote:Armanti also won Championships smart guy... and when did I say Quick was bad? Quick was great in the game against Montana. As for the Armanti comment... I was just busting your balls about the ASU Sports Network thing, be easy. I don't think anyone can question that he deserved those Payton Awards.

Whatever. Edwards doesn't need excuses. If Quick is in, he should be in...other than the fact that's he's not 6'5", plays in a pass happy conference, his team passes more, etc. You are making excuses for why Quick was selected. Not convincingSkjellyfetti wrote:Oooooo! This could be fun as well!kalm wrote: Hey, the BSC is far more pass happy than the SoCon so it must have better db's.

Keep in mind. It is EWU/Big Sky fans that are making the excuses.kalm wrote:Can I use that excuse as to why Edwards is better?
My guy is nominated and received votes. Y'all are making excuses as to why yours didn't get a single one.

Re: Payton finalists announced
Quick was selected because he is a great player. Edwards is also a great player but there are only so many that can be selected to the list. Considering the fact that EWU already has the Payton front-runner in the mix, it makes sense, at least to me, that Quick was added. As a voter, I would have a hard time putting two players from one team on the Payton watch list unless it is an absolutely dominant team, but that is just me. If you cannot be considered the best offensive player on your team, how can you be considered the best offensive player in the country? Given the style of offense that ASU runs, Quick's numbers are quite impressive and he is clearly our best offensive weapon.kalm wrote: Whatever. Edwards doesn't need excuses. You really can't go wrong with either one, both are outstanding receivers. Plus, it's not like Quick was threatening to actually win the award. He finished 15th of 20 on the list so it is kind of like fighting for scraps at this point.

three pages of posting on the Payton finalists?
why so much posting when everyone knows that the best player in the FCS, Lehigh QB Chris Lum, is going to win the Award?.

Less yards, fewer touchdowns, more picks against much weaker competition than Mitchell.The_Fan wrote:.

Well according to the http://www.swac.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; he finished 10th overall in the voting but will that be enough to get attention from the NFL next month???Who does Rackley play for???The_Fan wrote:It's okdal4018 wrote: Too bad my guy Therriault(Jackson St) didn't get an invite hope he gets a invite from the NFL via the draft next April.
Lehigh's Will Rackley didn't get an invite last year either
and he is the only rookie starter in the NFL this year from the FCS

Other numbers that would help in comparing Quick and Edwards would be number of targets and YAC. It would show who does the most with the opportunities they get. Anyone got em?

Bump. Anyone got any more insight on this? I was looking at Mitchell's numbers, and they are comparable to Nussmeier, Dickenson, Meyer - all three won the Payton their respective seasons. I think it will come down to Mitchell and Bell. Both are deserving, but I think these things end up being more of a career award, and the fact that Bell was an underclassman this season will work against him. Mitchell's stats this season were ridiculous and the fact that his performance in the second half of the NC game were probably still relatively fresh in the minds of the voters probably make him the favorite, IMO.

I saw all the finalists play this year and the best player in FCS isn't even on the list.... presumably because he's a freshman and he wasn't a starter all year; but the best player in the country is the QB from ODU, Heineke, and it ain't even close. Everybody had better enjoy it now because that kid is liable to retire the award in the next 3 years.

Right you are Bill... I thought Adrian Peterson was going to retire the award when he won it as a soph but that was the only time he won it.bluehenbillk wrote:How short people's memories are: "retire the award" - that was done before - Armanti Edwards ring a bell?blueballs wrote: but the best player in the country is the QB from ODU, Heineke, and it ain't even close. Um, sure. Anyway, the best offensive player in the FCS (Jones) didn't win it last year either, so don't feel too bad.blueballs wrote:I saw all the finalists play this year and the best player in FCS isn't even on the list.... presumably because he's a freshman and he wasn't a starter all year; but the best player in the country is the QB from ODU, Heineke, and it ain't even close. I also have a hard time believing you watched all the finalists play this season with your above comments. And by the way, this thread is about the finalists, not some dude who didn't make the list.

I have a satellite dish and a computer, so yes, I DID see the finalists play this year and YES, emphatically, the ODU kid is better than all the finalists. Don't let your rose colored glasses blind you to what that kid did.
In 9 games he passed for 265 ypg w/25 TD's and ONE int, ran for 40 ypg with another 4 TD's, and punted 4 times for a 42.5 avg for good measure... 9 games against very high quality competition- 29 TD's accounted for against ONE turnover and led his team to their first playoff berth. Yes, he was better than any of the finalists this year.
BTW, I am NOT an ODU or even a CAA fan so I am completely objective.
