How about for the reason if you look at the Big Sky vs Southland standings, you can see that the Big Sky teams in places 3-7 are capable of beating anyone else in the conference. Looking at the Southland, I looks as if it was truly a 1- 8 scenario. Each team got progressively worse as they went down the line. Check it out. Not a one lower team beat a higher team during the season.

Definitely a wake up call, and eerily similar to what happened after we took a beating in Ogden in 2008...

SHSU was able to drop 5-7 in coverage and still get pressure on the QB - I don;t think they will have as much success against the Griz, but anyone who thinks that SHSU isn't deserving of beinng there based on the conference needs to share whatever they are smoking.

I know they were very impressive Saturday. But you have to realize that going into that game they had not been impressive in non conference play. The only read people had on them in non conference play against teams from other FCS auto bid leagues came from a 20-6 win over the last place team in the MVC (Western Illinois) and a 34-27 last minute win over Stony Brook. That's not real impressive.

Their other non conference wins were a 48-45 overtime win against 1-11 FBS New Mexico, a 22-7 win over first year program Texas San Antonio, and a 36-14 win over a team that was in the Southland last year and finished 6-6. This past Saturday was by FAR their most impressive non conference performance of the season. If you count Texas State as a FCS the average score for their games against non conference FCS teams prior to Montana State was 28-14 and only one of the non conference FCS teams they'd played finished with a winning record. That was Stony Brook. I think most regarded Stony Brook as a pretty easy playoff draw and itself finished 1-3 in non conference play during the regular season.

Until Saturday there was no reason to believe Sam Houston State was anything but over rated by virtue of being a top 4 seed, much less the 1 seed. Saturday changed that some. But it didn't change the fact that until then they really hadn't looked top 4 seed caliber in their non conference games.

I did pick the stupid Bobcats to beat SHSU, maybe out of home state pride, maybe believing the nonsense that they were spewing about it being a one game let down on Nov. 19th. But noooooo, those traitorous cats betrayed me and acted like they really don't like playing football after Thanksgiving.
I would guess that the Cats didn't take SHSU seriously, based on their lack of ability to figure out what was going on, especially in the second half. I fully believe that SHSU prepared harder and smarter than the Cats did, hence the ridiculous showing last Saturday.
However, that being said, I think there is no doubt that the Griz coaches will not take SHSU lightly. Should be a really good game.

Per the above bolded, fencer, I picked MSU for selfish reasons.

I wanted another night game at Washington/Grizzly, and I'm pretty sure ESPN did too! I firmly believe that a semi-final game against the Bobcats, at home, on National TV, would absolutely demolish any past attendance records...despite the day of the week, or time of year!

I'm thinkin' there would have been close to 27k folks there, and a week later, 100k would be sayin' they were there!

Regardless, I'm just happy the Griz are still playing, and SHSU does look like the real deal! Should be a great game, and I'm lookin' forward to it!

GSU is a fantastic team; well coached, wonderfully conditioned, highly motivated and possessing of third-stringers at every position that would be rock stars if they played at NDSU. Unfortunately, all the talent in the world isn't enough when your opponent is playing with an 18-11 man advantage (Lehigh was only the latest to learn this the hard way). When the officiating crew is so thoroughly and embarrassingly in the NDSU hind pocket, the visitors-no matter how superior they may be-stand little chance.
Thankfully, the NC game will be played in an actual football facility (i.e., one that doesn't host job fairs and business conventions in the off-season like the fargodome). On that field, the Mighty Grizzlies of Montana will destroy the hapless and hilarious North Dakota Clown Circus!!
