McNeese
I am hoping and pulling for it but I wouldn't bet on it. At this point injuries have taken:
1) All three running backs who appeared on the depth chart for the season opener at Nebraska.
2) The three best wide receivers.
3) At least two of the starting offensive linemen who opened the season at Nebraska.
4) The defensive back who got the long interception return against Nebraska.
5) I think they probably lost the freshman running back they took the redshirt off of after the three who were on the depth chart to open the season got hurt. He was looking pretty good and got 91 yards on 11 carries through the first possession of the second half against Northwestern State this past weekend. Then all of a sudden he disappeared from the lineup and the coach tried playing the guy who started season #1 but said after the game that he's still limping but they had to play him because they were running out of players. The freshman got two more carries for one years each later on one series but that was it.
This paragraph on comments by the head coach after the Northwestern State game says it all:
"We were running out of players," said Viator. "We had a couple of offensive linemen come out the game and Bennett was still limping. We were just running out of guys to be honest with you."
Oh...and the Kansas State transfer QB Daniel Sams has a hip pointer. He played but he was obviously way below 100% when trying to run the ball. And his running ability is what makes him really dangerous when he's healthy.
Nothing's impossible and they're in good position mathematically but it's going to be awfully tough with them being as depleted as they are.
