SFA is another story. They played a D-II and lost to a school that's still essentially a D-II. SFA has NO business in the playoffs. IMO, Dayton at 8-3 with NO D-II games would have been a MUCH better choice. NC A&T at 9-3 with a 1-point loss to a team that was #1 for several weeks this season would likewise have been a better choice than SFA.
You should get a place on the selection committee next yr.A&T should have been in playoffs.Stephen F.Austin what D2 school did they lose to was it Abilene Christian 37-35??SFA has a QB that has NFL size 6-5 230 he is a sophomore Zach Counte.

Ill State is well balanced offensively and has a very good defense. It would not surprise me at all if they come out of their side of the bracket.

Marshaun Coprich has rushed for 100 yards every game this year and the QB (Roberson) is a very good dual threat.

Their defense is also one of the best in the FCS.
I think Illinois St will meet up with Sam Houston in round 2 both have very explosive offenses could be potential shootout. Both teams average near 39 ppg.

SFA would blow A&T out of the stadium.

MEAC only deserves 1 bid...period. The whole league sucks.

Yep. It can't be said enough. 0-16 since 2000. Its use to be the OVC was winless in the playoffs this century till last season. No more. The MEAC has that all to themselves.

SFA lost to a team that's still playing like a D-II....

SFA did not lose to a DII.
A TRUE DII handled Sam Houston State a lot easier on the road than Eastern Washington did at home this year. I don't know why some of you guys would think that a DII can't move to FCS and be immediately competitive. Troy State did it back in the 1990s while South Dakota State and North Dakota State both did it more recently. Abilene Christian had more success in Dii just prior to moving to FCS than either South Dakota State or North Dakota State did and was a decent team this year. Not great, but decent in the context of FCS teams. They lost to one FBS team on a last second field goal and beat another one. Both bad FBS teams but still FBS teams. They played very competitively at Northern Arizona. In fact they were pretty competitive in every game they played this year.

All in all I'd say they were a better than average FCS team. Again: This is a program that had made the DII playoffs for six of the seven seasons they had in DII before starting the transition. Their last game against a I-AA/FCS before starting the transition was a 45-27 win over then-I-AA Texas State in 2007.

In 2008 Abilene Christian beat Northwest Missouri State during the regular season then lost to DII championship game runner up Northwest Missouri in the playoffs. In 2009 they again beat Northwest Missouri during the regular season and lost to them in the playoffs. This time Northwest Missouri went on to win the national title.

It was a very strong DII program before it made the move. Abilene Christian is a proud program and was not a cupcake in the FCS context by any means this past season.

That doesn't mean I think SFA belongs in the playoffs. I don't. For sure I think Idaho State belonged in more than SFA did. But I think on a good day Abilene Christian could beat pretty many of the teams in this year's field.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

True...ColoradoSP absolutely destroyed SHSU at SHSU, while EWU, at home, was holding on to a 7 point lead with 5 minutes left against an SHSU that was in their very first game with a new system and new players.

If EWU and SHSU played again, the Bearkats would have a good shot at a win, especially outside of the tampon.

Edit: Messed up Idaho State.

You could see the talent SHSU had when we played them and I said at that time they were a playoff caliber team. They remind me of PSU with all the transfers. Good athletes, but a bit undisciplined and inconsistent.

If Keeler can get them playing together, they could be a tough out.

Your Sept (I mean Aug) description of SHSU sounds just like JMU. I thought during that SHSU/EWU game 1 of the announcers said SHSU had brought in 14 I-A transfers (not sure if that was just this season or total on roster). JMU had about 25 new guys (14 HS, 10 I-A transfers, 1 CC) to replace about 25 lost (10 seniors & about 15 quit the team). The 14 I-A transfers on JMU's roster (including 4 holders from last yr) are by far the most ever for a JMU team.

That side of the bracket isn't nearly as fierce.

NDSU got essentially what they wanted there.
However, JMU is on a roll and has a real shot at beating nova and could beat NDSU.
Too bad they were no match for the Fightin' Falwells.
