It was still a successful season for the Griz, though, given the bad cards they were dealt in August & September.

How so?Mvemjsunpx wrote:OK, it's official. Eastern Washington is the luckiest team in the universe.
When you beat the same team twice in a season, it's not luck.

I wasn't talking about the game overall, I was talking about the Jones fumble. How the refs don't blow the whistle there (Jones was motionless for how long?) is beyond me.EWURanger wrote:How so?Mvemjsunpx wrote:OK, it's official. Eastern Washington is the luckiest team in the universe.

So you think that was a good call? The refs didn't cost the Griz the game, of course (the lack of pass protection did), but they deserved at least another set of downs there.EWURanger wrote:Oh, ok. Refs. Got it.Mvemjsunpx wrote:

I thought the reversal on the Canada fumble was a bad decision, too. I mean, the DE was probably out of bounds when he touched it, but I fail to see how that was enough to overturn & I certainly couldn't tell from the replay. Big Sky refs are generally better than this OVC crew (& the replay officials) was.

I don't know; I'd have to go back and watch it. But either way, I don't feel either call played a huge part in the outcome of the game, so I feel no need to discuss it. The Canada fumble was certainly an extremely lucky break for the Griz, but again, I don't care that much because we forced a punt on that drive anyway. Even with replay, it seems things can still be a little convoluted at times.Mvemjsunpx wrote:So you think that was a good call? So, I went back and watched both plays. On the Van fumble, he never actually touched the ground, but it seems like they could have called his forward progress...they probably should have blown the whistle on that but it looked like he was still trying to extend to get the first down. Bottom line, probably not the correct call but good situational awareness by the D to knock the ball out of his hand while he was on top of the pile.EWURanger wrote:I don't know; I'd have to go back and watch it. On the earlier fumble...real stretch to say that EWU didn't recover that.
Either way, neither had any bearing on the outcome of the game. We'll continue to see bad calls throughout the playoffs. Gotta be good enough to overcome all of that.

The contention wasn't whether EWU recovered the Canada fumble, it was whether EWU had possession before it was touched out of bounds, which there was no clear evidence that he was or wasn't. It was a terrible call that was balanced out by the Van fumble call. I still don't get how the ref called that TD catch a drop. The side view showed his hands underneath it the entire time.EWURanger wrote:So, I went back and watched both plays. On a side note, it was nice seeing Titleist, Polson, Grizchick, and Co.

You must've had a higher resolution feed than ESPN did, or something.Screamin_Eagle174 wrote:The contention wasn't whether EWU recovered the Canada fumble, it was whether EWU had possession before it was touched out of bounds, which there was no clear evidence that he was or wasn't. The backside made it look as if the ball fell between his arms before he could cradle it. I'm pretty sure it hit the turf before he possessed it. There definitely wasn't enough there to overturn an incomplete.

Seemed like every 50/50 call went in favor of the Griz in the first half, and the favors were returned to Eastern in the second half.
