We're building a bit. We've always had solid defenses. Now we have offense and depth to help and we're winning the ones we used to lose. One step at a time.
Sat amongst quite a few Citadel fans today. Really nice people and we had fun. Even joked about the stadium with them. But...like all fan bases....a couple jackasses near by.
Oh well. Just wish this series was continuing.

Yeah it was a dog fight. Citadel is a very physical team. They had 6 turnovers (1 on final play desperation). If we didn't win there's a problem because that many turnovers we should have. But...Citadel played very stout D and knocked 2 QBs out (all clean hits).
This is great that the series is now at 5-5. We are clearly the superior football team/program by winning the last 4. I say that with the same feeling as a Clemson or Carolina fan talking about their rivalry. It is crazy to think that The Citadel is so ARROGANT not to continue this rivalry. Play the game at your place every other year like a normal school. Right now you are Charleston Southern's step child in terms of all sports and it infuriates your fan base and administration. As a military school I would think you were taught to attack all challenges head on and not run when you feel inferior.
If this upsets you then it must have some truth. If not, then never mind I'm just some dumb guy that has nothing better to do than post on forums.

Welcome to the forum. We've kinda already worked through all the CSU vs Citadel smack talk on this forum and called a truce. Let's move on. Jacksonville State on deck.

Hey look another bitter CSU fan.
We aren't scheduling you because we CAN'T schedule you right now. We don't have home-home slots to give, so get off your high horse, Nancy.
Good luck to CSU the rest of the way.

Seeing how the 2 games at our place played out...CSU should bite the bullet and just agree to accept deals to just play down there until we get our stadium up to date. We just cant host that games crowd when both teams are top 25 caliber. Don't know if the Citadel would still agree to it but it's a game that generates a lot of local media and exposure for both teams.
Make it happen on both ends. Citadel has been dodging playing CSU before now so I don't buy the no room in the schedule. We have been trying to schedule The Citadel for 23 years and only been able to schedule 9 games. Not bitter just proud.

I do like the idea of Blackboud on Daniel Island.
Nobody has been dodging playing CSU. You may not buy it but try scheduling Wofford or Furman and you'll run into the same issues. Adding ETSU has upset scheduling for the next two years and nobody has a second game to give. That is why we are playing North Greenville next year, because we can't find an FCS team that will agree to play that week without a return guarantee.

We had the same issue with SC State. Used to play them, back when SCSU was a top 25 program. Last few games were last minute 1 possession games. They flooded our field in 1998 with 7000 fans. And stopped playing us. The stadium crowd issue is 20 years old and not unique to the Citadel visiting.
I definitely get the reasons the series is stopping. I just wish it wasnt. It could.have turned into maybe one of the 4 or 5 best rivalries in FCS just due to proximity and basically equal teams.

Obviously CSU and The Citadel will continue to play each other. The regular season schedules don't work right now but they will eventually. Chadwell pissed some people off with his antics but it still makes sense to play the game.
Plus, for at least the next couple years it is entirely probable that CSU and The Citadel will play in the playoffs, given regionalization.

I hate that Chadwell is getting that reputation because that's not him. He's a really good guy. But...his job is to win and promote CSU football. He's right when he says CSU football actually gets way more respect outside Charleston than in it.
It's no question as far as media and perception goes, The Citadel football has been (and to many still is) the #1 shown in town. Chadwell and CSU want and need some of that local attention.
Only way to get it is to poke the bear and hope you win the fight. He did and fortunately won the games so it paid off big time. It was never really about disliking the Citadel....you guys just happened to be the bear we had to poke. No different than both our basketball teams kinda needing to steal attention from C of C.
Yeah...the series will continue eventually in some way. We have to fix the stadium though. That's obvious if we ever want to host games like that.
