UD appears poised to hire Rocco as football coach

Richmond coach Danny Rocco will discuss the University of Delaware football coaching vacancy Monday with UD officials, the Richmond Times Dispatch reported Sunday.

But the most important dialogue has apparently already taken place.

The News Journal learned later Sunday that Rocco and UD have likely already come to an agreement for him to become the Blue Hens' next coach and an announcement may be imminent.

Now UD beat reporter tweets that Rocco is talking to Temple.

The Temple opening is definitely a wildcard for Delaware. They are likely courting Wilder and Rocco, and Rocco would likely have interest in both Temple and ODU.

University of Tennessee at Chattanooga head football coach Russ Huesman has been linked to a coaching vacancy at Delaware and a possible opening at Richmond, according to various reports.

Attempts to reach Huesman Monday afternoon were unsuccessful. Huesman has gone 59-37 in eight seasons as the Mocs' head coach.

Richmond's current head coach, Danny Rocco, has also been linked to the Delaware opening after stating he would weigh other coaching offers in the off-season while questioning the vision of the Richmond program. A report Sunday night stated that Rocco and Delaware had possibly come to terms, but a report Monday had Rocco also linked to the recent opening at Temple.
