I'm hearing reports that BOTH teams have suspension issues. But I think that YSU's are not as great as JMU. I'm calling it a YSU win....

I'm pretty sure it's the opposite. YSU had multiple starters suspended.SuperHornet wrote:I'm hearing reports that BOTH teams have suspension issues. But I think that YSU's are not as great as JMU. I'm calling it a YSU win....

Go Penguins. All other things aside I'd like to see an unseeded team win it.

I just don't think YSU has enough defense to stop us with 2 starting safeties out... Dukes crush 41-17

Re: FCS Championship - JMU vs YSU
JMU 2 deep missing 2nd RB Cardon Johnson (2015 2nd team All CAA), injured achilles, out for season since early Nov. The 3rd RB So #1 Sharp now the 2nd RB behind the All American Abdullah. Sharpe very good, was a 3 star out of HS with multiple P5 offers- only issue is has put the ball on the carpet a few times.SuperHornet wrote:I'm hearing reports that BOTH teams have suspension issues. But I think that YSU's are not as great as JMU. I'm calling it a YSU win....
-rSr #76 Mitch Kirsch- 2nd team AP All American - high ankle sprain last game regular season vs Elon & reinjured 2 weeks later vs UNH 2nd round playoffs. He had been considered questionable for the NDSU game and likely for Frisco. Is a ‘rumor’ on the JMU board that he is one of the 7 suspended.
The backup RT rFr #68 has been the starting RT the last 3.5 games. He has given up some QB hurries, sacks, and tackles for loss. But he has had to go up against studs. Against SHSU it was against the Southland Conference defensive POTY & a 1st team AP All American. At NDSU he faced a 1st team All MVFC defensive end in the Fargodome noise. That game was a disaster (5 false starts, illegal man downfield penalty, gave up 1.5 sacks,+ a # of QB hurries). In Frisco there won’t be the noise of the Fargodome, but YSU leads the nation in sacks, and their 2 de ends have a combined 24, with one of them an All American. This is really the only concern for JMU.
-rJr WR #7 Terrance Alls- 3rd team All CAA Duke grad transfer. Not a concern here as JMU has 5 other very good WR. All’s backup was the one who caught the last TD pass vs NDSU, and also the game winner @ SMU last year.
-2nd team ILB Brandon Hereford. Coming into the NDSU game he was JMU’s leading tackler but not considered one of the 2 starting LBs (6 starts in the 1st 13 games) in JMU’s 5-2-5 defense
The other 4 suspended are 2nd-3rd string, played very little outside of blowouts & special teams
YSU missing starters to suspension:
-Sr RB Martin Ruiz, YSU 2nd leading rusher, 1st team All MVFC, suspended for gun charges
-JR WR Darien Townsend, Leading receiver & punt returner, 2nd team All MVFC.
-Sr S LeRoy Alexander, Nebraska transfer, 1st team All MVFC, 2nd team AP All American, leads the Penguins in INT.
-Sr starting safety Jameel Smith, 2nd team All MVFC.
The 2 starting safeties had 60 some starts between them. The 2 replacements have 4 total after the EWU game.
Don’t know what YSU’s injuries are, but everyone at the this point in the season has some injuries to their 44 man 2 deep.
http://wkbn.com/2016/12/17/sources-name ... gton-game/
YSU missing 4 starters to JMU’s 2+. YSU missing 4 All Conference players to JMU’s 2. I think the missing players will hurt YSU more.

BTW this was last week:
"JMU's Houston Rules Out Two Scenarios For Seven Suspensions
HARRISONBURG — Coach Mike Houston won’t say why seven of his players were suspended for James Madison’s national semifinal win over North Dakota State and next week’s FCS national championship game, but he did rule out two scenarios on Thursday.
“There have been a lot of rumors, there’s been a lot of speculation,” Houston said during an NCAA conference call. “I will say that none of them were arrested. There was no performance-enhancing drugs or anything like that.
“Those seven young men are good kids. They made a mistake. They are paying for that mistake.”
JMU (13-1) meets Youngstown State (12-3) for the championship at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas, on Jan. 7.
After the Dukes’ 27-17 win over the Bison, Houston confirmed that wide receiver Terrence Alls and linebacker Brandon Hereford were suspended and did not play. The school and Houston have declined to name the other suspended players.
Both juniors, Alls had 39 catches for 575 yards and five touchdowns. Hereford compiled 96 tackles this season.
“They made a mistake and they are paying the consequences,” Houston said. “As has been my policy anywhere I’ve been, I really don’t get real deep into personnel issues. So that’s going to be the only statement that I will make on that issue from now until after the championship game.”
Houston said all the players who took the field for the win over NDSU are expected to play next month. He added the seven players would remain suspended “well beyond” the title game."....................."

Re: FCS Championship - JMU vs YSU
From the JMU board:
"The rumor I heard was that the NCAA only tested for PEDs the last two years during the playoffs. This year the NCAA included recreational drugs in their testing. The players thought they were okay because they did not use PEDs. They apparently thought the bye week was a good time to let off some steam per see. The testing was done after the UNH game but results were not available until after the SHSU game...."
With a number of states having legalized pot, and given the fact that there is 0 performance benefit (if anything its a performance detriment) I don't think it should be treated any differently than alcohol as far as the NCAA is concerned.
