The BISON are a very physical football team. I have posted the stats that prove it and fans are now begining to reluctantly agree.
The Leopards may not be prepared for the kind of smash mouth football the BISON will bring. Robert Morris held up pretty well, offering a great contest, a lot like Montana State, before crumbling under the on-slot of the BISON attack in the second half. That second half collapse could be a characteristic of this game too. It should be a great match-up.

Will you give credit to Lafayette if they beat NDSU, or will you just make excuses?
"What I'm saying is: You might have taken care of your wolf problem, but everyone around town is going to think of you as the crazy son of a bitch who bought land mines to get rid of wolves."
Yes I will. I call them as I see them. Its a matter of record you know.
Ps. I corrected my post above to correctly read Montana State rather than Montana.

Way to dodge my question. So if they beat NDSU, will you bitch and moan about officials or Lafayette cheating or just give credit to them for being better on that day?

The game hasnt unfolded yet. What will be said after the game deals with the future. That means prognostication.
I have already expressed my wishes and hopes it is a well officiated game allowing it to be decisive. I have also expressed my confidence that it will be.
We have no reason to believe the Leopards are going to cheat or otherwise disgrace the game. They are a high caliber program coming a long way for a meaningful game. Im sure their traditions telegraph their intent to be competitive, play in high spirits and play by the rules.
I will certainly call the game as I see it. Im confident we will have a sporting contest, played with intensity and some regrets, but always in the spirit and practice of high sportsmanship. I have every bit of confidence it will be a game with a decisive and honorable conclusion.

I got curious as to how presteigious Lafayette really was in football. I did some research
All Time Football Record
650-552-39
-Not a bad record. However, I wondered how many of those wins came early in the program, and how many are recent
Since 2000:
62-62
-Hmmm...dramatically worse than the overall record and really not good at all.
I looked at the yearly toatals of Lafayette since they started football:
-Three 10+ wins seaons - none since 1899
-Only five times since 1900 have they gotten to 9 wins (last time was 1981)
- 64 seasons over .500 but 58 under .500
-6 Patriot League titles since 1988 - a decent number, but not really an impressive number considering they won the 2006 title at 6-6, and at 5-6 (yup under .500) in 1994, and have never had more than 8 wins as a conference champion
-They have played in only three playoff games since they joined the FCS/IAA in 1978....losing all three by average of 15 points.
They may be a *decent* PL team, but would be nothing in any of the big 4 conferences. Usually only the best PL team would be a good big 4 team on any given year.

I didn't...it is in the future. The game hasn't transpired yet. When it does, we can revisit this thread if you wish.

Excellent, substantive post! Ive taken the liberty to isolate the factors that lie at the heart of the claim Layfette has a fine football tradition.
Although I am relying on memory I would also add that last season was their first losing season in 9yrs. Thats not bad either.
In a nutshell, the Leopards are a play off caliber program with a winning tradition in a weaker FCS conference that got one team to the quaterfinals last season.

By isolating the substantive posts, you removed the fact that they are a .500 teams since 2000
I simply isolated the factors that lie at the heart of the claim that Lafayette has a proud football tradition.
I think what we are seeing is a successful program, that has real bad years every now and then, offsetting the many, many average to good years, that are never as good as the bad years are bad.
In the end we have a program with a proud winning tradition, that has a pocket full of playoff experience in a weaker FCS conference that found its way to the second round of the FCS playoffs last year through UNI.
In fact, your research probably revealed to you that the Leopards played a better game against Lehigh then UNI did in the playoffs the following week. We are actually expecting a team similar to Lehigh or UNI than anything else.

The defending national champions at USD is a bigger game for those voices that exist outside of your head or possibly Fargo. Not that it's really that big a game.

Are you going to that game? It's only about 4 or 5 hours from CF. If some EWU fans make the trip, I'll make it.

I would really love to go and tip a few with ya Clenz, but unfortunately that game is book ended by Washington and Montana and I can't swing three weeks in row.

From any other perspective, everyone would say they have no proud tradition in football...you are the only one saying that.

Lafayette has a very solid football tradition but most of their success came before the 1970's. After the program was almost dropped in the late 90's the Pards experienced revival and posted very good seasons in 2004 and 2005. The '05 team went into Boone and gave App State everything they could handle. They would have made the playoffs in 2009 had they not lost to Lehigh in the season finale. Based on the last 10 years their 2-9 '09 compaign seems to be the exception rather than the norm.
No matter what, this is not a bumbling non-scholarship Pioneer league team coming in, just look at their facilities. Lafayette is a well funded, legitimate FCS program.
There seems to be a lot of misconceptions about the PL on this board.

Good enough to be 3-1 against the MVFC in the playoffs....
3-1 against the 4th best conference in the division.
Now kalm....Don't you think a 250,000 square mile forest fire is enough?
