No. Throw in a nuclear facility in the middle of it then maybe. :coffee:

I would really love to go and tip a few with ya Clenz, but unfortunately that game is book ended by Washington and Montana and I can't swing three weeks in row.
I'm in the same boat. If I had the money, I'd love to go.

You don't need money. I hear these fancy little plastic things work great.

EWU travels to USD the week after this game. St. Francis is stepping in for Georgia Southern at the Fargo dome the Saturday EWU is at USD.

The EWU @ USD will probably be top of the second page type game. St. Francis @ NDSU will be bottom of the front page. headline in Fargo.

I will give you this JaBBer, you're committed to your schtick. There's no way in Grand Forks you honestly believe that a QF loser going up against a non-scholly team who has a combined 30 wins in the last 18 years for an average of 1.6 wins a season, and from one of the weakest conferences, is more important than the defending National Champs playing a team that beat the team ndsu will have already lost to when these games occur. :ohno:

Your ego is out of control. EWU @ USD is a Dakota Big 3 game and a good game for EWU, but it wont have the fan interest as St Francis @ NDSU will have. It will be a second tier game and to read about it you will have to go to the second page or worse.

EWU is in the second tier of FCS programs. Major FCS programs, as listed earlier in the thread, are in the first tier. The game gains a little because the defending national champions are there but fan interest wont be anywhere near the St. Francis @ NDSU game.

The only way it gains front page news, and bottom of the page is as good as it gets, is if USD wins. Otherwise its another ho-hummer and will get buried under the flood of NDSU BISON Coverage.

In FARGO you are correct...duh. I hope that's what you are referencing that they hometown team will get more coverage IN FARGO than the EWU/USD game.

Why is EWU second tier? I would like to hear an explanation to this one.

EWU is second tier because they are not a top drawing club: just over 6,000/game last season is all. They add interest, but they dont draw. Second page news outside of vermillion. The BISON will be front page news accross the Dakotas.

The fans on this board are probably some of the more fanatical fans EWU has, at least it would seem so by their incessant bragging, and they arent even bothering to go. They cant afford it I guess. So how can it possibly be a "big game". Nobody really cares about it. There were thousands of NDSU fans at EWU. It was their biggest game and biggest win of the year, but it wouldnt have gotton more than a mention if NDSU hadnt been there.

Vermillion and Brookings will not put NDSU front page after st francis or any other game for that matter. They will do what the Forum does and talk about their home team and then mention other games in the college football section. ya dig?

Absolutely wrong. The St. Francis @ NDSU game will be front page news.

The Lafayette game will also be front page. Its the opening game of the year, Lafayette has a more established football tradition and there wont be much of anything going on so it will get more play than the St. Francis game but both will be big news.

I dont know why you refuse to see whats right in front of your eyes. You must have missed this post:

Lafayette has a very solid football tradition but most of their success came before the 1970's. After the program was almost dropped in the late 90's the Pards experienced revival and posted very good seasons in 2004 and 2005. The '05 team went into Boone and gave App State everything they could handle. They would have made the playoffs in 2009 had they not lost to Lehigh in the season finale. Based on the last 10 years their 2-9 '09 compaign seems to be the exception rather than the norm.

No matter what, this is not a bumbling non-scholarship Pioneer league team coming in, just look at their facilities. Lafayette is a well funded, legitimate FCS program.

There seems to be a lot of misconceptions about the PL on this board.
Thats one of the reasons for this thread. Even some folks that claim to be BISON fans arent clear on the background of this game. Its a great opportunity for BISON fans and others to get up to speed on the Leopards dont you think NDSUFreak? The thread also gives fans from back east and Lafayette fans a chance to be educated.

The Lehigh-Lafayette rivalry gives both schools national expsosure and obvious tradition. You can't underestimate just how big that game is. There's a reason why the highlights always make Sports Center. On AGS Lafayette is a well known and respected program. On here, they're nothing more than a curiosity.

Here's their wiki, the helmet and huddle both starterd at Lafayette

In your fantasy world, attendance is all that matters to the strength of a football team. In the real world, how well a team consistently performs over a long period of time determines the strength of a football team. EWU is first class having made the playoffs 5/7 years, knocking off 4 seeded teams in the playoffs during that span, and of course winning a D-I National Championship. ndsu on the other hand is second class, having only made the playoffs once, and only knocked off one seeded team in the playoffs. Don't worry buddy, you'll get there someday... maybe. :thumb:

The thousands of ndsu fans that showed for the game against EWU only goes to show how big of a game it was for the prairie cows. It was the the biggest in their history. A home game in the playoffs for EWU, and we only had like 3k. Obviously no one cared about watching us beat the prairie cows, and wasn't an important game at all. :coffee:

EWU averages just over 6,000/game. Thats not a top tier program. How good the team is runs in cycles. Anybody can win it. How big the team is, thats something a little more fundamental. Not all teams can be big.

EWU was lucky to get a big game with NDSU. It put Cheney on the map. All NDSU game are big, the large NDSU contingency was nothing special for your game squawker.

Big programs like NDSU make the news and get the coverage. EWU will barely get noticed with the NC, just imagine if they didnt have it!

The Big Sky is actually a second tier conference. The MVFC outdraws them by more than 100,000 fans/season. The Big Draws of course are NDSU and YSU. That makes this game 1st tier and bigger news than EWU @ USD. Even the small, "und-like" crowd down there will be 1/3 larger than a typical home crowd for the Eagles.

Many of "The BIG programs" like NDSU also stand out for sustaining success over a long period of time. NDSU has been a perennial contender on the national scene since the mid 1960s. Their early success in the FCS is certainly exciting and points the way to a Division 1 tradition of success as well!

Ps. Thanks for speaking up about Lafayette Go Lehigh TU Owl. Some of these folks are pretty dismissive about things. There was a lot of post game eating crow and apologies coming from the UNI fan base because of their dismissive attitude toward Lehigh prior to the play-off game.

There's no way you type this stuff with a straight face.

Also - so now the W/L margin isn't really that important since "anyone can win it"......

Spoken like a true fan of a team that doesn't win a whole lot. ;)

EWU was lucky. It could have been another lower tier program assuring a much smaller crowd and far less national interest. Certainly it was a big game for you "in-town" folks but NDSU made it really big.

As far as the rest of it, you missed the point. Good programs come and go, anybody can win it. Those names change year to year. But the names of the BIG Programs stay the same. Sure won/loss is important in any given year but overall the thing that matters most is the size of the program. Win or lose the BIG Programs like NDSU are always in the news and the stands are always packed. Thats part of the reason the Lafayette game is big.

SEMO was a bigger game than NDSU. You keep saying that attendance is the what determines how big a game is? Well than ndsu was the least, or among the two or three least important games EWU played all year. You want a big game? UM is a big game. More UM fans showed up to that game than did ndsu fans to the ndsu game against us. UM is a big program. And it's big nationally. ndsu on the other hand is only big in North Dakota. The saddest part of all, is that mentally handicapped North Dakotans like you believe that North Dakota is the world.

Hell, any one of EWU's games this year will be bigger than every ndsu game except ndsu vs. UNI, the kings of the MVFC. The one-trick pony in the 4th best conference.
