Re: Old Dominion at Delaware
Delaware pass D played much better than the ODU pass O. That was the difference in this game.
Re: Old Dominion at Delaware
Kudos to ODU on a valiant effort.
Hens move to 3-1.

Gonna suck to drop this one, but I'm going to hold my head up high.
Nice win Delaware.
Nice job ODU. I know we don't really want a "moral victory" but I'm proud of the effort.
Nice to hear Delaware announcers say "ODU smacked Delaware around today". We need that kind of effort to play in this league.

Re: Old Dominion at Delaware
Game went pretty much as I expected; close and not decided until late. Neither team looked great on offense, but I think that was in large part because of the defenses.
I think ODU can look back at this game as a positve experience, they competed in their first official CAA game. I'm still not sure how good the Hens are going to be this year.

Re: Old Dominion at Delaware
Hats off to ODU - you guys are for real and will win quite a few this season.
Difference today was the QB play - if DeMarco had been anything close to accurate you may well have won this game...

Found this interesting....
http://hamptonroads.com/2011/09/blogging-fly" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;* Officials are expecting the smallest crowd in 30 years here at Delaware Stadium. There's a mutiny going on with season ticket holders who are upset that they are being asked to pay a licensing fee for their seats, much like ODU faithful are asked to make a donation to the Old Dominion Athletic Foundation to assure they get tickets to football and basketball.
Problem is, that's a new approach for the Delaware faithful, who haven't been asked to donate before. It will affect nearly 75 percent of the stadium here. Going to be interesting to see how many show. Plus, it's wet and overcast here.

Re: Old Dominion at Delaware
Congratulations Delaware. Losing is never good, however I take some positives from this game. Our run defense was spectacular, and the Monarchs seemed to hold their own at the CAA level, even on the road.
DeMarco was his usual inconsistent self but I don't lay the loss solely at his feet. I think what cost us the game more than anything was our horrible kick and punt return coverage. I think if the team finds a way to shore that up they should have a good season.
Thank you Delaware and again, congratulations.

Again +1,000,000. I CANNOT wait until Delaware comes to Norfolk in the future. Anyway already looking forward to next week. Can't wait to play UMass in front of a record crowd at Foreman Field!MadMaxMonarch wrote:Congratulations Delaware. Losing is never good, however I take some positives from this game. Re: Old Dominion at Delaware
Hats off to the Hens for a good game today. Thought we had the mo' when we went up 17-16 in the 4th, but it was real short-lived.
DeMarco probably had his worst day I have seen in 3 years. No excuses, and you guys deserve the credit, as his throws were inaccurate and rushed. Surprising considering his 4th quarter comeback just last week.
Best of luck the rest of the year. Hope your RB heals quickly.

I'm thinking 8-3, maybe 7-4. It's a very weak CAA this year.DBlue wrote:6 and 5 for the Hens, maybe 5 and 6.BlueHen86 wrote:...... I'm still not sure how good the Hens are going to be this year.

Re: Old Dominion at Delaware
That's what I think. The Hens didn't look good today, but that could be because they played a good team. The Navy loss was bad, but it looks like Navy is pretty good. The WC game was closer than it should be, but the Hens got way ahead and let WC back in the game. I have no complaints about the DSU game.93henfan wrote:I'm thinking 8-3, maybe 7-4. 3-1 at this point is fine, but the Hens really haven't played a "known quantity" CAA team yet.

Are you saying that after seeing today's DSU score?BlueHen86 wrote: I have no complaints about the DSU game.
Re: Old Dominion at Delaware
Glad that game is over with. We'll take the W and head to Maine 3-1, 1-0. ODU is a very solid team. ODU sold out and stopped the run. Didn't think that the UD run game could be held in check like that. Your DTs played very well. I think what I, and others are underestimating about ODU is their experience. Sure, the CAA is a new challenge to them but they play a bunch of upperclassmen, and more importantly guys who have made a bunch of starts. I'm interested in seeing how they respond after emotionally letting it all out today on the road. Both teams made mistakes. UD started the game exactly how I feared they would. Special teams punt screw up for a TD, blocked FG, missed FG in the first half. Fortunately the defense came to play and held ODU in check. Their lone TD setup on a fake punt (you guys called it...while sitting there I was seeing our middle of our punt team spread like the Red Sea so I thought that might happen). Good luck the rest of the way, and possibly see you down in Norfolk next season.
Re: Old Dominion at Delaware
Delaware could have scored 80 against DSU if we wanted. Massive reserve playing time, even kneel downs inside the DSU 10 at the end of the game.CAA Flagship wrote:Are you saying that after seeing today's DSU score?BlueHen86 wrote: I have no complaints about the DSU game.

Re: Old Dominion at Delaware
That's what I have been saying for a while now. We are still young, but many players have a lot of game experience. That has to count for something. If we caught lightning in the bottle with our first two recruiting classes, we can win some games this year. But we still have a lot of freshman on the field. We'll need them in 2 years when the "experienced players" graduate. It's a building process and I think we are doing it right unlike Coastal Carolina that went "all in" early and made the playoffs.UD1Hens wrote:Glad that game is over with. Our defense played like we play against everyone. We give up a lot of underneath passes. Not sure why though. It's certainly our scheme, but I don't know if it is because of the coach's philosophy or lack of talent.
I don't believe we were "selling out". To me, selling out means the safeties are flying up to the line. I was looking for that but didn't see it. We do have a decent front 7 and I think they proved that today (although our LB's can't cover the pass routes very well). But we had a good reason (first CAA game) to play today with sky high emotions. We'll see if they can do that week after week without the "reason".
UD was clearly the better team out there today. Play 10 games and we might win 1 or 2 if things go right for us. In THIS game, the difference was the UD defensive backs vs. our passing game. We could not get open. We have not had that problem with anyone we played with the exception of the second half against W&M.

Re: Old Dominion at Delaware
Exactly. After a while the margin of victory doesn't mean anything. AFAIC - a 45-0 win is just as good as a 69-0 win.93henfan wrote:Delaware could have scored 80 against DSU if we wanted. That was just to point out what happened today to DSU. I agree. We have called off the dogs too in our blowouts. But the "glass half empty" guy on GoHens looked at the 69-0 score the other way.
