Bias is a partiality that prevents objective consideration of an issue or situation. To have so many calls, that were so obviously wrong, go in favor of EWU at every juncture may be revealing a lack of objectivity that made it impossible for them to consider the situation without partiality.
The only other thing to consider is the officials acted under order to assure a predetermined outcome and there is absolutely no evidence of that.
Why in the world would a CAA official want one of their teams to go to the wood chipper known as The Fabulous Fargo Dome when the alternative is a trip to Cheney? I offer that as pure speculation as to why there may have been a bias.
I think the refs were intimadated by the huge crowd, especially that cheatin prick with the cowbell. No other explanation.

Ya'll do realize those were NOT Big Sky Conference refs, don't you? That they have no stake in seeing EWU advance over NDSU or SEMO? Isn't it just possible that you didn't have to cheat to win in your weak-ass conference, but when you found yourselves up against superior competition it became apparent that playing straight-up football wasn't going to cut it so your players started trying to sneak in holds to gain a competitive advantage?

Every Holding Penalty wad against a Wide Out. Maybe you guys are not used to running the ball in the Big Sky. Was not trying to imply cheating. Just stating a fact of the game. There not any Holding Penalties in the interior line play. Just seemed ridiculous that they ALL came after Big Conversions or Big Gains in yardage.

Although the Eagles played a decent football game they are not the better team. 1 critical non-call and 3 bad calls by the officials at critical points in the game, all in favor of the Eagles, exposed an incompetence that may have revealed a bias in favor of an EWU win.
1) Coulter Boyer was wrapped and tackled allowing Jones to break free for the first EWU TD. Holding was not called.
2) A pass that clearly bounced off the turf into the receivers hands resulting in a first down instead of a 4th and long resulted in a long TD pass to Jones on the next play.
3) A pass interference call in the end zone for incidental contact on an uncatchable ball on 4th down gave the Eagles a first and goal resulting in the tying touchdown.
4) Brock Jenson was clearly down when the ball came loose in the overtime drive. It was not a fumble.
As a result the game was indecisive. EWU has improperly advanced. They are an undeserving squad in possession of a "faux victory".

Jones is a good back and even in a strong league would get notice, but he is not an all american phnom. Jones qualifies as an all american with apparently the minimum requirements. He has some speed and a few moves but lacks physical durability and true "football spirit".
NDSU fielded much better running backs with DJ McNorton shaming Jones with his performance.
Feel the hate.....
Jones is a good back, jb, so is McNorton, but neither one of them is a Deji Karim. Well Jones is like a smaller version, but you know what I mean.

How embarrassing.
Usually when your o line holds as much as the Bison did it's because they're a little slow-footed. Too bad the Bison didn't keep it to straight ahead drive blocking. Gotta play to your strengths, jb, that's very important at this level.

Apparently the official in the booth responsible for the errors in judgment is Bill Fette of the Pac-10.
Bill Fette needs to be taken to task and his decision making reviewed. An official with such obvious lack of integrity and demonstrated inability to interpret correctly what he is seeing has to have his future role in the game put to the judgment of his peers.
It was a complete failure on this gentleman's part or it was more sinister than that. The former is where we are at now. There is little evidence, other that the persistent string of erroneous calls in favor of EWU, to make that sort of judgment.

Thank You Sir.
Something has to be done about a situation that is obviously detrimental to the game of football. If this sort of behavior on the part of officials like Bill Fette of the Pac-10 goes unpunished its a game of disgrace not honor. To make those sorts of outlandishly improper calls over and over is an insult to the teams playing. to simply brush it aside as "part of the game" or claiming its an excuse is a sin of omission. Its every fans duty to stand up and insist on officiating that is fair and even handed. Just the opposite seems to be the trend at EWU and the BSC this season.

Our team and coaches are not making any excuse. The statement from the team is that this game will be used as a motivator next season. The BISON plan to build on this outrageous injustice.
Any call for an investigation of the incompetent officiating and Bill Fette of the Pac-10 in particular will not come from the NDSU BISON Football Conglomerate. This will be done in a very diplomatic and behind-the-scenes-fashion. If the game is going to be allowed to suffer this type of indignity without repercussion the future is not bright. If the division wants to make this type of incompetent officiating an acceptable norm or standard the results of all games will become meaningless.
I cant remember an outrage of such enormous proportions inflicted on the game of college football since the Delta State Insult in 2000.

EWU @ Montana 2009. :
League Criticizes Officials in EWU-Montana Gameby bengal » Tue Oct 20, 2009 3:33 pm
Big Sky issued this statement today. First time I've seen such a broad mea culpa from the league in a long time:
OGDEN, UTAH (Oct. 20, 2009) - Following a review of the Eastern Washington-University of Montana Big Sky Conference football game, the league has issued a statement in regards to the contest’s quality of officiating.
Third-ranked Montana beat Eastern Washington 41-34 in Missoula on Saturday, Oct. 17.
“The officiating in Saturday’s EWU-UM game was not up to the standards we expect and require,’’ said Big Sky Conference Commissioner Doug Fullerton. “Our officials are evaluated on every play of every game by observers in the stadium and by independent film evaluators - many with NFL experience - following the games. There are consequences for officials after they are examined.’’
Several plays were reviewed by the conference, its director of football officials Doug Toole, and independent observers. The league found two calls against Eastern Washington particularly troubling.
In the fourth quarter, an Eastern Washington player was called for a late hit out of bounds. The penalized player, however, was illegally blocked in the back by a Montana player, propelling him in to a Montana player out of bounds.
Late in the third quarter an Eastern Washington wide receiver was called for unsportsmanlike conduct as he slowed down on his way to the end zone. His actions, however, did not warrant the penalty.
“We continue to examine at least four more plays,’’ said Big Sky Conference Commissioner Doug Fullerton. “We don’t normally comment on officiating, nor do we plan to regularly do so in the future. However, there are cases where it is warranted, and this is one.’’

Billy's an alright guy. It's just best that he sticks to beer. Once the bottle gets passed around his judgement tends to suffer a litte bit. Probably why he didn't stop by the tailgate after the game.

I think yesterday is another example of a situation that needs this type of scrutiny. Simply playing lip service isnt the answer. the investigation has to occur, a judgment made and if warranted proper disciplinary action taken. To allow this year after year ruins the game. To not investigate and not make responsible parties accountable for their actions has the same affect. There is a very good chance some type of complaint will be filed for the good of the game.
