Consider this foreplay. ;)

It's a nice sketch, and I'm good with that. It may even become a photo someday, but there is certainly no reason to get excited about it, at this time.

That said, it is certainly more realistic that the prior cartoons. I do think that our new AD is doing a good job, considering the flat/declining finances of most intitutions and individuals in this depressing economy. The supposed end of the recession last year sure seems illusory to most folks. So, anything that gets done in the facilities area is a plus.

FWIW, the addition to the Bob will henceforth be considered by me to be a womens basketball and volleyball enhancement. Mens basketball, not so much, as there are larger issues to be dealt with regarding that program.

Yeah, I'm not trying to kill Muir. I also believe that he's done a good job revamping the product that is UD athletics right now. I simply disagree with the way the Review chose to bring these sketches out to the public, when they were presented at Forum and Reunion Weekend as a way to entice folks to invest in the University (when, presumably, those that attended F&R Weekend ARE the people who invest in the U already). I like that the current drawings have taken into account a design which builds onto Delaware Stadium (rather than the horseshoe structure that would have sat on the land currently occupied by the Fieldhouse and one of the turf fields), which DOES make it more realistic.

If this was meant as a "see what's coming once we get the money" sort of move, I'm not sure I would have allowed the Review to release it to the public as something that seemed to be in place. It's like opening a Red Rider BB Gun on Christmas and then having it taken away from you (or hiring a basketball coach and then unhiring him...or hiring a football coach and then unhiring him...)

You like that it's more realistic, not that it's a better design, correct?

Yeah, I mean...obviously if you're gonna build a new stadium from the ground up, that'd probably be "better" (though I happen to love Delaware Stadium and the steep pitch to the stands). The drawings that they released over a year ago now with the completely redesigned South Campus were a joke and, in my opinion, bit off more than the entire state of Delaware can chew. The centerpiece of that redesign was a new horseshoed stadium sitting where the outdoor pool, field house, and one of the newly turfed practice fields now sit.

I think (smartly) adding on to Delaware Stadium the way that Montana has done with WGS is the more realistic approach...

Man, if UD did this and wasn't able to realize the necessary funds, then the crap would really fly from all the skeptics.
I do appreciate the fact that we have a new President and AD who may finally be attempting to move this program forward.. however don't forget that we still have the same old BOT.. so I'll continue my wait and see attitude. It's hard to ignore the fact that UD's all-time football attendance record was set nearly 40 years ago and since that time the school has choosen to make very few meaningful investments in that program. They continued for decades in that do nothing stance despite reeking the benfits of playing before one of the top two or three DII, I-AA and FCS supported programs in the nation. Talk about a total lack of vision.. so forgive me if I reserve the right to say "show me". Talk and drawings are one thing.. a meaningful investment in the program is entirely another matter and until I see 'action' rather than talk.. I'll continue to delay waving my UD pom poms until there is actually someting meaningful to get excited about.

CM:

Hey, how many members in the BOT? Got plans for next Valentine's day?
CM, I for one, don't attach that much importance to a new stadium; I'm much more concerned about turning the football team into one of championship caliber. However, it was obvious that Mr. Roselle did not put much emphasis on football- related facility improvements and I can sure empathize with you on that. As I stated in an earlier post, President Harker has, so far, come through with his promises, small potatoes as they were.
So, while I wouldn't bet my house on the actual fruition of the proposed stadium improvements, I'd, at least, give it a reasonable chance.
