Minter is all mouth. His high school team got into a big brawl recently and he showed his true colors....pass.

Amato would be intriguing, but he is older and has had health issues....pass.

1994 - Agreed, if Minter were a serious candidate I would be shocked.

Boys,

Trust me when I say do not believe what you read on football scoop. Particularly in this case.

Different administrators place different priorities in a search to fill a position. I applaud the administration for placing an emphasis on adding character and religious conviction to their search. When you are a private school with a Christian mission there should be no qualms with asking for certain standards. And as we have seen at Liberty, you can have the best of both worlds with a man who can not only be an outstanding leader of your football program, but also one who conducts himself in a way that sets a great example to the young men he is training.

As for Minter, it seems he is lobbying for nearly every position that comes open these days. You can't fault a guy for being open with his aspirations. Not to make direct comparisons, but another former NFL player out on the West Coast has done extremely well for himself by making a great deal of noise to move up through the college ranks quickly. Personality & charisma can play a strong role if the coaching chops can back up the talk. But I seriously doubt this is the direction that is being envisioned in Boiling Springs.

FootballScoop only said those guys were interested. Didn't say we were interested in them.

If Elon HC, Pete Lembo, is going to take the Ball State job as is being reported, this is going to create a more lucrative [better paying] job in the same area to compete with Gardner-Webb's coaching search. Gives our guys another reason to pick someone quickly.

ElCid83 - Cowher? LOL, the Running Bulldogs would be out of the Spread O in a flash and might resemble well, actual Running Bulldogs on Offense and Junkyard Dawgs on Defense. We all can dream, I believe we'll get a good one, probably just not as fast as we want to. Lembo leaving Elon opens up another local spot and that is a better plum than G-Dubb at least by objective standards at this time. Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas and the same to all my Bulldog Friends.

No names yet specifically, but I did hear some good news in the past few days. No interviews yet, and not likely until after the new year rolls around. None were scheduled in the past couple weeks, so wherever that scoop came from was false.

The good news centers on hearing that the folks at Gardner-Webb want to get this thing done before classes start for second semester. That would mean at least two full weeks for recruiting.

At this point, all resumes of all potential candidates have to be in. How long does it take to narrow the list down to 10 solid candidates and conduct some interviews? It's very unfortunate that our staff and their families have to sit back and wait for this process to dawdle along.

ElCid83 - I agree, gotta be tough on the current assistants here at Christmas and everything up in the air. I'm certain that some may wish to stay if offered the opportunity and some may wish to move on. But while millions will be wondering what's under the tree, our current assistants are wondering whether they'll remain employed. I would hope that the Fosters and Cunningham are in the mix to stay. Don't know how to read the situation with both OC and DC and our OL Coach King is in a tough spot with only this 1 year of actual experience. One thing for sure, the new HC if he turns out to be the former UNC DL and Spurrier protege mentioned by some at the iconic school down south it will be viewed and probably rightfully so as a fantastic hire.

Rundawgrun - Welcome to the board. It's exciting to see fans of Gardner-Webb increase in number on this forum. You can't grow to 50 or more posters unless you grow from 6 to 12 first and we are on our way. You'll find the small group that we have includes many player parents, alumni and other interested fans (ElCid83, BigDawgPop, BulldogDad, EagleDawg, GWebb1994, 99SourceCode, OldCoach, Dogeatdog, snakeeyes, JCole62). A high energy guy is something we need and I hope we get.

Merry Christmas to all my fellow Running Bulldog Friends and their families as well as all of the others who visit and post here on CS. Looks like we might be getting ready for a significant white Christmas here in the Carolinas over the weekend. That's something that apparently hasn't happened at least here locally in the NC Triad since 1947.

Go Running Bulldogs, here's hoping that Santa brings us a new HC who can elevate the program to the top of the Big South and get us to the playoffs.

While thinking about Elon's vacancy, a name popped into my head that I would like to see our "committee" consider - Dave Cecchini. He was the OC at The Citadel until my alma mater decided to run the triple option. He went back to Lehigh as OC and put them in the playoffs this year. Really smart guy and has a very good understanding of the spread O. He will be a head coach one day. I say give him a chance.

Footballscoop.com is now reporting that Joe Reich has interest in our job. Reich is the HC at D-II Wingate and has been there 10 years. I've heard that we're not really interested in D-II guys but he looks pretty solid. What about Ralph Friedgen?

Here's something you won't see at too many schools. LB Dami Teniola graduated recently and his coach - Travis Cunningham dressed up to watch. Way to go Coach Cunningham.

So true Elcid. We have a few coaches that are keepers because they care about the university and the players involved. Welcome to all the new Bulldog posters. It is good to see more interest in our program. Merry Christmas to all( especially the group that meets under the shade trees :kisswink: )

One of our players also unexpectedly lost his Dad this season and many of our coaches managed to make the 2 hour trip to the funeral just after landing in Charlotte from the Stony Brook trip. We really do have a fantastic group of coaches and support staff at Gardner-Webb. I hope this process works out for all of them.

OK, Christmas is over. Time for Mr. Burch and Dr. Bonner to start looking for a head coach. I would love to see us get this done before the recruiting dead period is over.

ElCid83 - Dang skippy, I certainly hope that Dr. Bonner and AD Burch had a schedule in place to make this happen as you outlined but if we are to believe all the comments attributed to the university so far, then while we may hope for an expeditious vetting, interviews and a hire, I believe they are comfortable with a mid to late January announcement. I don't agree with it but like the rest of us, we have no say in it. I believe they had every intention of making the change at least by the end of the season if not before and they should have had a short list of candidates that they were interested in soon after.

On a different subject, we had our first substantial White Christman since 1969 and largest snowfall on a 12/25 date since 1942. 6 inches on the ground here, double that east of Raleigh and our oldest son's fiance is stuck in northern NJ/New York City in the blizzard. We heard they had 19" with drifts up to 8 feet, wind chills in the single digits and winds howling at 40 mph. My Yankee friends can keep it and we'll enjoy our short lived snow cover, soon to be gone with this Saturday's high forecast at 60 degrees. Oh what a difference a week makes in our Carolina weather.

Wishing all my Running Bulldog Friends a prosperous, healthy and Happy New Year! :D :D :D

Same to you and yours Eagle....

5" of snow here in Shelby, a little more over toward the Boiling Springs metropolis.....

I tend to think we won't see anything until school starts back, then maybe the hiring wheels will start turning....

Lady Heels in Porter Arena on Friday will be interesting to see, I hope we draw well, we got 800 in there for the Purdue ladies last Wednesday...

Interesting read from the Elon area newspaper. Sounds like the Elon fans are a lot like us, doesn't it? I guess the difference is that GW has had more time to "let the process take a little shape." Our pot should be fairly full at this point. Elon's message board is showing that some similar candidates are interested in their job also [Mike Minter, Chuck Amato, the DII coach at Wingate, and Rod Broadway]. I don't know who else has sent in a resume, but it looks like there will be stiff competition for the best available candidate.

It surely would be nice to get a little information directly from the Sports Information Dept. even if it is just a timeline. In order to keep interest in our athletics programs, there must be a larger dissemination of information to the supporters, fans, and families. Anyone can get up to the minute reports on which players are wearing yellow jerseys at every single University of South Carolina football practice and also get lots of really important information. There would be daily updates coming out of Columbia if they were searching for Steve Spurrier's replacement. Come on guys, give us a little something.

ElCid,

I know those guys pretty well and have for a while. From what I understand there is a complete gag order at this point, so they're not talking and I'm not asking. If this is anything like basketball, the only news that will leak out during the interviews will come from people who might see someone on campus a particular day. There won't be any reporting on the matter.

That's a policy that can be frustrating for a fan base, but it comes from the top of the top. The school likes for these things to be handled as privately as possible.

The only info I have been able to squeeze on a timeline is that they are hopeful that someone can be in place by the time classes start, which I think I saw on the main school website is January 12 or 13. That would be quicker than what was reported earlier in the local paper.
