I'll say this - I'd rather have the pleasant surprise that was last years playoff run than what happened to UNI... getting your hopes up to have them dashed like that... that's ng.

that being said... it's to the point now where whenever JBB posts I get this image in my head - read everything he says in that guys voice... and laugh myself silly

To compare apples to apples you are really 1-1 cuz you got in the first year a play in game was established. You can make big deal out of the play in if you like but we all know what it really is. :thumb:

UNI's hopes never "got up". It was, and always was supposed to be, a rebuilding year for UNI. Winning the conference and making the playoffs at all was a huge accomplishment for last year's team.

Last year was a huge success for UNI.

Likewise for The NDSU BISON. Last year was a huge success. The seasons ended differently though. NDSU was a victim in the bill fette bowl. UNI was eliminated in the first round. A team has to do better than that.

Last season NDSU opened with BCS Big 12 Charter Member Kansas and won but had to follow that with a trip to the UNI Dome. This year NDSU opens with two in Fargo then travels to TCF Stadium in Minneapolis for the Gophers. Its a little better schedule giving the BISON some breathing room. A chance to gel and get the team on track. On paper its a better deal, but beating Kansas with a freshman led team on the road was sure a big win, unexpected by most. It did set the stage for a season of ups and downs and the team developed into a very good football team by seasons end.

The two big playoff wins, RMU and Montana State were impressive, to say the least. All was made possible by the win over the Jayhawks. An FBS/BCS win is a good insurance policy when vying for a playoff spot.

What do you think the Gophers are doing those first two weeks? Anyway with the new HC who is a proven winner the Gophers will be a very different team than in the past.

JBB wrote:NDSU is 2-1 all time, playing 660% plus ball in the FCS playoffs. Not bad. If they win the title next year they will be playing 875% playoff football with a trophy. With a win over the Gophers the record against the FBS is 5-3, 625% winning football against the FBS.
Victor Williams of UNI had a QB rating of 1068.40 in the 23 games he played. 1-1 for 76 yard TD against then #6 Ill St (how long ago was that?). By you inference, he should be the greatest FCS QB of all time.

I don't know why I allow myself to get drawn into this - after I post a rational reply to JBB, all I can think about are windmills...

He also had a 70 or 80 yard touchdown pass versus BYU in 2008

I think the threw two, maybe three, passes in his career....all of them for touchdowns.

EDIT: Williams played 3 years, 2006-08. His name was listed differently in 2006 in stats.

http://www.unipanthers.com/sports/m-foo ... chive.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

So the correction for Victor is 2-2, 133, 2 TDs and lifetime passer rating of 988.60 against (at time) #6 FCS ILL ST and #17 FBS BYU. Original point stands.

As an aside, 2006 Ill St was #6 in the nation, and now they aim to be #6 in the MFVC. That's a long, hard fall.

Victor Williams to Josh Collins BYU game 2008 - From the BYU stats

BYU 2008 Season Stats
BY Game Superlatives (as of Feb 20, 2009)
All games
Long Pass 76 Williams,Victor, vs Northern Iowa (Aug 30, 2008)
Long Reception 76 Collins, Josh, vs Northern Iowa (Aug 30, 2008)

From the UNI stat book
3rd 12:12 UNI - Collins, Josh 76 yd pass from Williams, Victor (Hallgren, Billy kick)
1 play, 76 yards, TOP 0:12, UNI 10 - BYU 27

Victor did not throw a pass again Illinois State in 2008, and Illinois State was not ranked #6 when we played them in 2008. They were 3-8 that year and we played them in week 5 and they were 2-2 going into that game.

Victor also played for UNI in 2006: 8 games, 5 catches, 105 yards, 2 touchdowns
