#1 EWU @ USD Discussion & Game Thread

Certainly some wins are not decisive. Case in point is the UNI fan(s) saying they were the better team and should have won against ISU last week. Other wins are convincing. Take the NDSU BISON win over Big 12 Charter Member Kansas Jayhawks last year. The BISON are on a winning streak.

As far as the Eagles go the Dakota Big 3 is a lucky break for them. This is a big game. If it were in Cheney it would go unnoticed. Because its in South Dakota against one of the Big 3 its a big deal coast-to-coast.

The thing about the Dakota big 3 is, that you can only defeat them on the scoreboard (that's acutally pretty easy..), because when it comes to physicality aka "knocking the stuffing out of you", the Dakota's are undefeated.

Any wins on the scoreboard are only "circumstantial", as knocking the stuffing out of you is the only thing that matters for the Dakota Big 3.*


*Does not include the prestigious University of North Dakota, who have an illustrious history of beating the fuck out of the Dakota 3. Only "real wins" matter to this great school. The "moral victories" are for the Dakota Big 3 to celebrate.

I'm inclined to think we will do to the Coyotes what we will do to many other FCS teams this year and that is wear them down with our depth at every position. This is usually the case with FBS teams vs FCS teams, they wear you down albiet because they have 85 scolies to our 63 but similar none the less.
Coyotes will keep it close early, given their home field tradition, but we have been a 4th qtr team in the past and will probably move that up to 3rd qtr this game. I do see this as somewhat of a trap game though too so the Eagles better come out expecting a battle.
I don't see Baldwin running up the score even if given the chance so maybe lots of guys will get game experience.

I don't think the Eags will overlook this game due to the fact that USD will have a favorable crowd showing having the #1 team in the country coming into their house. The crowd should be rockin' in that dome. The adrenalin's gonna be firing on all cylinders. EWU MUST establish a running game early to dictate the game.

No disrespect Darrell, but I would think you would agree with me when I say you guys just aren't very good right now. I am not saying your never gonna be, but right now your not. You only scored 16pts on a non-scholarship team, that equates to maybe 3pts when you play a quality FCS team. Our losing season last year was the first since 2002. We are just like NDSU when they had their 3-8 record. It doesn't happen often and we intend not to make it a habit. Yes we beat Drake 16-0 we killed ourselves with penalties and dropped passes, but with our young team this team shows promise, and I think the games against Idaho and Fresno State should show where we belong with the rest of the DI world.

Since that time UND has struggled, quitting competition for many years with SDSU and NDSU. They have now left all their Dakota traditions behind including their nickname. UND is not in any leagues with any Dakota Big 3 members. They simply are not cut of the same cloth, do not have the same on-going traditions and are not members of this exclusive club.

For EWU, the bitch of the BSC, its a blessing in disguise. EWU was selected by the BSC to throw the Coyotes a bone as an inducement to get them into the BSC. Thats why the winners of the bill fette bowl and defending national champions are traveling to Vermillion. Its also a good chance for them to practice in a Dome should they travel to Fargo for an honest playoff contest during the tournament this year.Eventually USD came to its senses and worked out a deal with the superior MVFC their future was set as a member of the Dakota Big 3.

What would have been simply another OOC game in some obscure location in the foothills in front of 3,000 or so is now a game of major regional and probably some national attention because it involves a member of the Dakota Big 3. Sure they are just a Jr. Member, transitioning and all, but still a far sight better for the Eagles than playing at home alone.

Being the Kings of the Big Sky and FCS as a whole, the EWU Eagles, in all their humble splendor, offered USD the chance to play with the elite. Of course, USD accepted. I wouldn't imagine that ndsu, the bitch of the MVFC who can't get above .500, would know anything about playing elite competition. They play the likes of St. Francis and Lafayette. What a bunch of scared little prairie cows! They are certainly scared to play the flagship Dakota school; THE University of North Dakota, as the mighty Fighting Dakotas are 10-3 vs. the petrified prairie cows of the University of North Dakota State.

USD is a pushover, just like the rest of the Dakota Little 3. Like the 3 Little Pigs. USD is the one in the straw house (SDSU and UNDS live in stick houses though. You'd have to extrapolate the metaphor to the entire conference before you find a pig that lives in a brick house; UNI). EWU is the wolf.
