I don't know at the moment. I'm not familiar enough with the incoming teams' QBs (I know Sorenson is good, but I'm not sure how good) and it's impossible to really know about PSU & Sac's situations until at least spring ball.Screamin_Eagle174 wrote:How would you rank all the QBs though?

Kyle Padron to transfer to EWU
Well, I'm not sure about that. Because of his great mobility, he's a good Qb to run Montana's offense. From the few games I watched last season, he doesn't have much arm strength, and I think his height is an issue, IMO. I know UM's offense doesn't really require him to make a lot of difficult throws, but I think if you stuck him in a more traditional Big Sky/pass-heavy offense, he would struggle. But like I said, he's good at running Montana's read-option/spread (whatever you call it) offense.Mvemjsunpx wrote:I think Jordan Johnson has the most potential.

Re: Kyle Padron to transfer to EWU
The description of Johnson having low arm strength is a myth. He's not Brett Favre or Jeff George, of course, but he can fling it. Check out his first-half touchdown against Idaho State if you don't believe me. Arm strength is probably his relative weakness (though I think it's still decision making at this point), but he still is solid on that front.EWURanger wrote:Well, I'm not sure about that. He's accurate, too, especially when on the move.

What a retarded argument. Let's see Padron run the spread option effectively.

He did in HS... but you can come see it in person in Cheney this fall.AZGrizFan wrote:EWURanger wrote:

Kyle Padron to transfer to EWU
Why is it retarded? I'm not knocking the dude. He's just not a pocket-passer. His strength is his mobility. I do not believe that Johnson has the arm to run a more traditional pro-style offense. He is also short and has a hard time seeing over the offensive line, which is why he often has to get out of the pocket to throw the ball. I base this opinion on having watched him play several games last season. The majority of his long pass plays were "floaters". Also, who didn't shred ISU's secondary? Not exactly the metric I'd be using to try and prove my Qb's worth.AZGrizFan wrote:EWURanger wrote:

And my argument wasn't whether or not KP could run the spread option, so what's your point?

Re: Kyle Padron to transfer to EWU
That pass had nothing to do with "shredding the secondary." My point was that he threw a perfect 40 yard pass to the middle of the endzone across his body while running toward the right sideline. He threw it with enough velocity & to a spot where only the WR could get to it.EWURanger wrote:Also, who didn't shred ISU's secondary? Kyle Padron to transfer to EWU
I hadn't seen that game and that was a nice throw. I think my point still stands, though, that's he's not a drop-back passer. He makes plays because of his mobility, which is the point I was making. I still think that because of his height he would struggle in an offense that requires the Qb to stay in the pocket. That said, there's a lot of Big Sky Qb's that couldn't do what he does. He's a good fit for UM, but guys like Mitchell and Padron are better for EWU's offense.

Re: Kyle Padron to transfer to EWU
A lot of this is all true, but it doesn't really address my original point—Johnson has the potential to be the best in the league. He improved a ton within the season last year and he's a playmaker. If he continues to cut down on the dumb throws, he'll be ripping teams apart.EWURanger wrote:I hadn't seen that game and that was a nice throw. And Johnson did make a lot of good throws in the pocket. He is better out of the pocket, but that's largely because he doesn't really lose accuracy when throwing on the run. The height thing is overrated, I think—Dave Dickenson is shorter than Johnson and he's arguably the best passer in FCS history.

Well, I'll have to watch him play more this season and maybe my opinion will change.

J.J. McDermott took over last season, and former Texas quarterback Garrett Gilbert has transferred to SMU.
"I felt comfortable with being able to pick up the system and how well the system prepares a QB to get to the next level," Padron said. "There is more responsibility the QB has there than what I'm coming from and the guys they have coming back, especially at WR are very intriguing.
"The coaches and their motivation to compete and be the best was the biggest thing for me though, because they want to win a conference/national championship as bad as I do."
Finally something official comes out. GO EAGS!

Well, he definitely didn't throw the ball well against EWU (30-something yards). He did run for over 100, though.EWURanger wrote:Well, I'll have to watch him play more this season and maybe my opinion will change.

Yeah, and I admit that's probably a lot of where my perception of him comes from. Although I did watch him in a few other games this past season.Mvemjsunpx wrote:Well, he definitely didn't throw the ball well against EWU (30-something yards). Re: Kyle Padron to transfer to EWU
I realize that wasn't your argument, but your argument was retarded. Someone makes the comment that Johnson has the most potential, and your argument AGAINST that is that "he's a good QB to run Montana's offense...but if you stuck him in a more traditional offense he would struggle". And if you stuck Padron in a spread option HE would struggle...it's not what they do, it's not what they know. Johnson is PERFECT for the offense Montana runs, and Padron is probably perfect for the offense EWU runs. It's ludicrous to even compare the two.EWURanger wrote:Why is it retarded? Probably won't know until fall camp for us. We landed a FBS transfer from Nevada (Magleby) and rumors are a JC guy is soon to join in with what is returning ( a weak Safron and a RFR Geringer) for a battle royale for the QB spot. May the best man get the spot.Mvemjsunpx wrote:I don't know at the moment. As far as the Johnson arguments go, just get UM down a couple TD's and you expose his average at best passing abilities.

What semifinal game were you watching? Johnson nearly caused a 3-score comeback.SDHornet wrote:As far as the Johnson arguments go, just get UM down a couple TD's and you expose his average at best passing abilities.
The Jordan Johnson we saw at the end of the year was a completely different QB than the one you saw against Sac State.

Re: Kyle Padron to transfer to EWU
Finally official.
http://goeags.com/sports/m-footbl/2011- ... ay29Padron" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;“We’re very excited about it, but most of all we’re excited about our entire team and the players we have coming back,” said Baldwin. “He’s another piece to our team and will add to the overall competitiveness we have at every position.”
Mitchell was injured in the 2009 season at SMU and transferred to EWU after Padron secured the starting job mid-way through his freshman season. The same thing happened in 2011 to Padron, who suffered ankle and back injuries and was replaced in the lineup by J.J. McDermott for the final 11 games of the year.
In his 21 games as a starter at SMU, the 6-foot-4, 225-pound Padron led the Mustangs to a 12-9 record. He was 5-1 as a freshman, as SMU’s late-season surge helped it beat Nevada 45-10 in the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl. Padron passed for a school-record 460 yards and two touchdowns to earn Hawaii Bowl MVP honors, then started all 14 games as a record-breaking sophomore (7-7 record).
After receiving his junior year back as an injury hardship, Padron will have two years of eligibility remaining at Eastern.
Padron ended his SMU career with the school’s career record for passing efficiency (142.0 rating) and average total offense per game (259.9). He completed 61.2 percent of his passes (446-of-729) and was intercepted 21 times. His 5,902 career passing yards ranks fourth in school history (Mitchell is seventh with 4,590), and Padron’s 2010 totals for passing yards (3,828), total offense (4,072), touchdowns (31), completions (302) and attempts (508) were all school records as well.
“You don’t plan for any of this and don’t necessarily expect it, but it was a good situation and opportunity for us,” Baldwin added. “We don’t take a whole lot of transfers here – over 90 percent of our players are going to 18-year-old players out of high school who play for us for four or five years. But sometimes transfers are the right fit, and you definitely want to take advantage of that.”
