Why? That seems odd to me.
There used to be a transfer pipeline from S. Baton Rouge (lsu) to N. Baton Rouge (su) that has dried up. Some people don't want kids to go there.

It's better if he leaves BR.

Kid is in a rehab center in Houston (since Monday).
Family stated his health is the top priority right now and football can wait.

Very smart decision, give him some time to get his sh*t back together.

I feel compelled to type what I think happened when TM went to McNeese. I think he went there thinking it was just a matter of him showing up and McNeese saying "we will take you." But I don't think that happened. I think what happened when he got there is that head coach Matt Viator was non-committal and took a "we need to both make sure we really want to do this" approach.

I say that because of feedback I got from former McNeese beat reporter Gary Laney (now with GeauxNation and who goes by "McBeat" on the McNeese Delphi board as well as some others). Someone had posted an article including a quote Gary got from Coach Viator (http://espn.go.com/college-football/sto ... ate-source" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). The quote I saw that made me think what I think is:
Mathieu did visit McNeese State on Friday night, Cowboys coach Matt Viator told GeauxNation's Gary Laney. However, Mathieu left without a commitment.

"It's very important for both us and Tyrann to make the right decision and Tyrann agreed," Viator said. "It was a long day. We both needed to back off a bit and make the best decision. Especially him. He needs to catch his breath and make sure he makes the right decision."
After reading that I posted the following:
From the quotes McBeat got from Coach Viator I got the impression that Coach Viator did not give him the "we will take you" response he and those close to him may have expected. I think Coach Viator had a "we both really have to think about whether or not we want to do this" type of attitude.
Shortly thereafter Gary responded to my post by writing:
I think what you gathered about Matt's handling of this is pretty spot on.

Yea, yea, yea thats all bullshxt. You think McNeese State would hesitate on LSU Heisman Trophy FINALIST? You are out of your fxcking mind! Coach Viator slid that LOI to TM before he left, but TM didnt sign it. Why didnt he sign it? Bc hes not 100% positive what his next move is. Move down to fcs n play now w/less respect, or rehab n train for a year & transfer to fbs for a year then declare for the draft. Either way Coach Viator is leading suckers like you into believing "we both need some time" like Coach V actually had a choice. [ "48 Laws of Power" Rule #36 - Disdain things you cannot have. ]

I don't know why someone would want to rename the "sour grapes" principle from Aesop's Fox and Grapes fable Rule 36 of the 48 Laws of power. But that's another subject.

Believe what you wish.

It's not sour grapes for me because I have no problem with saying I'd have like to have seen him transfer to McNeese. But I can also see some reasons for a FCS coach being leery about taking him. He's a defensive back who's just going to play one season showing up a little more than two weeks before the first game having to learn a new defense. And the fact that he got into this position at LSU after being given multiple chances means there's a pretty good chance he's going to do it again.

Me, as I wrote earlier, I'd have taken the chance and just hoped he didn't get caught. He'd have sold tickets. Also he's a very good punt returner so could've contributed in that way even if it took him a while to be able to fully contribute on defense due to the learning curve. But I can certainly understand a FCS coach thinking it's not worth it.

Especially at McNeese since both experiences with discipline type transfers of starting caliber SEC players they've had were bad ones.

And the guy did drive over to Lake Charles late at night on the day he was dimissed.

Rehab? Seriously? Transfer to the FCS and go to the NFL!

I think that to a large extent you are just trying to jerk my chain. But I'll go ahead and note that McNeese is the only school he visited. That's after Josh Jasper tweeted he had transferred to McNeese. Then he drives over there wanting to talk to the coaches after 10 pm on the day he was dismissed. I think it's pretty reasonable to think that his intent was to transfer to McNeese.

I didn't say Viator turned him down. I said he was non commital and felt that both parties needed to think about whether or not they really wanted to do it.

Anyway, what we do know is that Jasper tweeted he was transferring to McNeese, that he drove over to McNeese late at night wanting a meeting with the coaches, that it was the only sFCS school he visited, and that he checked into rehab either the next day or two days later.

The title of this thread might have been closer to reality if it was just:
Honey Badger to AA.

Reality bites.

r.
The point was that Coach V being "non-commital" is bullshxt. Coach V could have been fxcking his wife at midnight, with beads in his ass, if TM wanted to sign a LOI, Coach V would have agreed! Coach V WAS NEVER NON-COMMITAL.
