Yeah, I'm not sure where the academic snobbery comes in. Without researching each and every school, just looking at Fordham and Delaware, both are in the 50-75 bracket of National Universities in the widely-read US News rankings. Both seem to be very well-regarded academic institutions. CAA also has William and Mary, Villanova, New Hampshire, Richmond, etc. Not really lightweights there either.

Please let me know when Bucknell and Holy Cross consistently beat the likes of Towson and the other top caa teams on a regular basis. I'll give fordham the credit for their season which i hope translates for them being a great team every year but the PL isn't over taking the CAA anytime soon.
In the coming years, if a kid gets offered by the PL and the CAA, the PL is going to win a lot of those recruits. I suspect this is going to result in a shift in league balances, unless the CAA throws out all standards.
I don't know if this will turn out to be true or not, I suspect not.

However, the PL uses the Academic Index (AI) as part of the application process. The AI is a score based on SAT's, GPA and Class Size. Athletes must meet a certain score, and the team must meet a certain average. CAA schools have no such requirement (I think the Ivy League is the only other league that uses the AI). This puts the PL at a disadvantage since there are athletes that can't get into a PL school, but can get into CAA school.

Hey, I never said the CAA wouldn't get recruits. I said a lot of recruits the CAA now gets are going to get offered scholarships by PL schools; the PL will get a lot of that talent that use to go to the CAA; and this will result in some shift of balance. So the only way the CAA can maintain its advantage is being throwing out its standards and take some kids the PL won't take. I think implied in my statement is that the CAA does have standards.

:crybaby: :foot:

this was bound to happen, especially in a Conf. with this "few" teams.......it happens in hoops each year (although all but one hoops Conf. has a post=season tourney).

Even in 2014 in the Patriot, the winner could go 5-1 in Conf, finish 6-6 overall, etc.........suppose Dook or VPI beats FSU in eight days.........the same "arguement" will happen w/ACC fans......
1-AA is tops!!

Notre Dame and Pittsburgh were co-national champions in 1929.

There were no formal championships back then, just "consensus" opinions. Sorenson is a major and widely respected ranking, and Fordham can claim a 1929 title based on this Sorenson ranking.

 OK

The "official" champion recognized by the NCAA for that year is Notre Dame. And Fordham had two ties, including one against Davis and Elkins? WTF? You have no right to claim anything.

Davis and Elkins. Was that a country duo?

There are no official NCAA champions from that era.

Davis & Elkins was a formidabl opponents in the 1920s. You can't judge 1929 opponents according to what is going on today.

Like today, though, Fordham of '29-'30 was considered the best team in the East. :D

Sorenson is one of the best computer models and it crowns Fordham the '29 major division football champions. :coffee:

Nah, the thread ended when Lafayette reportedly took the field this weekend. No confirmation yet, though, that New Hampshire was even playing against anyone on Saturday.

Looks like we could have left them out... Fordham being a full member next year fixes this, right?
