It was a landmark win for us. We KNOW that 2013 team wasn't a typical App team. But hey...we'll take it!!

Last 3 schools Sun Belt took were well outside their then geographic footprint for all sport schools. CCU is a little outside their current geographic footprint, but only eastern wise (most of coast of SC is cut off on map).

I dont consider that 4 year stretch to be backsliding- it has to do with more than just their record. CCU has made a commitment to football and they have mostly made all the correct business decisions during their time

traditionally the SBC is one of the best baseball conferences in DI.
I think that may be a bit of an exaggeration. By the Sagarin ratings, for instance, the highest rated Sun Belt team at the end of 2015 was Louisiana-Lafayette at 42nd. Second highest was South Alabama at 65th.

And here's a good one:

According to the RPI ratings at http://warrennolan.com/baseball/2015/conferencerpi" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, the Sun Belt (13th) was weaker than the Big South (10th) in 2015. So this is a step DOWN for CCU in baseball.

Those were bad seasons, but backsliding? We were consistent and since 2011 we've only improved. Our recruiting, coaching, commitment to the team and the school has only gotten better. Will we start any fires in 2017? Doubt it. But now there's a 3rd FBS school in SC and that alone can lead to a boost in recruitment.

BTW, as of Abilene Christian splitting its Sun Belt games last year the Sun Belt as a football conference is now 0.500 vs. the Southland. I think it's 12-12. To be sure I'd have to look it up but in any case I did look it up last year and am certain it's a tie. My Southland Alma Mater is 3-0 vs. the Sun Belt.

This is not a step up from FCS in terms of caliber of competition. It's a bunch of schools that belong in FCS calling themselves FBS. That's all it is.

And it means CCU's athletic programs will become a greater net cost to the school. As has been repeatedly demonstrated doing what CCU is doing is, more likely than not, going to have a negative financial impact.

The BCS share for the SB is roughly $1m per, and each team in the *Group of Five* (American, C-USA, MAC, Mountain West and Sun Belt) receives $300k for meeting the NCAA’s APR minimum.

The FCS BCS share is around $20m distributed by AQ conference. I'm not sure how it's actually distributed (i.e., it would be unfair for the Big South to receive the same share as AQs with 2X the teams).

Bottom line is that if you look at the college football finances database (http://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/finances" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) you see that non "Big 5" FBS schools generally have to kick in more to support their athletic programs than FCS schools do.

What you need to note is that "school funds" is included in "revenues." School funds is not revenue to the school. It's money the school has to kick in in order to balance the athletic department books or at least come close to it.

It doesn't matter ... every school has their own way.

Texas State & The Other GSU spend around $30m/yr. Appalachian spends 15- to 20% less. The Convicts from the Real GSU likely spend half of what the Panthers spend.

Other SB schools (nearly half the conference) only spend $10- to $15m/yr, total for the athletic programs. Some schools field 20 M/W sports ... some, 14 M/W sports. I think one only fields 13 M/W sports.

This year the 4th Sun Belt qualifier plays in the AutoNation Cure Bowl against an AAC team. At the Citrus Bowl in Orlando. With a $1.35m payout per team. On the CBS Sports Network.

I could not care less, but that ain't FCS, friend.

Oh come on, Mark. After four straight 9+ win seasons, they had four straight 6 LOSS seasons and fired the head coach. That's the textbook definition of a "backslide".

I said traditionally, which means over an extended period of time, John.

The numbers don't go back very far, but in 2014 the Sun Belt was 11th in RPI while the Big South was 17th and in 2013, they were 5th and 11th, respectfully. In 2015, the Sun Belt's RPI was extraordinary low while the Big South's was extraordinarily high. This move is a BIG upgrade for CCU baseball.
