NDSU at Montana - Game Thread
Re: NDSU at Montana - Game Thread
Can some Bizon fan explain to me how #5 is a starter for your team? He is terrible. Like NAIA-type. Cant cover a soul, can't tackle, and draws penalties every drive.
I don't follow NDSU except around playoff time, but the announcers made mention that they actually moved amid from CB to safety because they thought they had enough players on the edges?
Seriously, on the last drive they had to provide LB help underneath and safety help over the top, and thus wound up manned up everywhere else. The Bizon are gonna be vulnerable all year unless they find someone else.

Re: NDSU at Montana - Game Thread
NDSU lost pretty much everyone on defense that made plays except CJ Smith, and he didn't play today.
It was strange watching NDSU today. They looked nothing like the NDSU I've watched every weekend (at least condensed games of) since the 2008 season. I'm sure it's a lot of growing pains with a new defense, but their OL has 2 All Americans on the left side and looked porus. The run game, while putting up a lot of yards, didn't actually look that good. It was mostly Wentz making plays.
It was weird. They looked more like SDSU or Indiana State from last season...not NDSU of anytime since 2009

For clarification, it needs to be wildfires. Iowa State tried the same thing with the dumpsters last year. No bueno.93henfan wrote:And there's the blueprint for beating NDSU:

They'll clean up their act and annihilate the Griz in playoffs, if the Griz make it.

1. Turnovers
2. Poor game management late in 4q.

Passing on 2nd and 3rd down on their final possession (both incomplete) with under three minutes and the lead was a headscratcher for sure.D1B wrote:Eh...clenz wrote:NDSU lost pretty much everyone on defense that made plays except CJ Smith, and he didn't play today.

This was the first game for the Griz in their new offense. Numerous dropped passes that were probably TDs. The Griz are going to be one hell of a team this year.D1B wrote:This. Stitt's play calling, is ahhh, unusual. Like a drunk with a concussion.
That said, it was great to watch.

Good point. Griz have a bevy of outstanding receivers.Vidav wrote:This was the first game for the Griz in their new offense. Numerous dropped passes that were probably TDs. The Griz are going to be one hell of a team this year.D1B wrote:

Re: NDSU at Montana - Game Thread
That's exactly what I'm talking about. Look at NDSU the last 5 years. This team is, at least now, missing something from the previous years. Still a very good team, still top 5-10 as of today, but this wasn't the same NDSU team we've seen. The run game misses Crockett like crazy. The defense is...well...I know Stitt runs a fast offense but NDSU has seen that type of thing before.D1B wrote:Eh...clenz wrote:NDSU lost pretty much everyone on defense that made plays except CJ Smith, and he didn't play today.

I noticed even in the first quarter they looked slow, their size didn't have the same push behind it as past years, and looked much more "rattle-able" than previous years.
It was just weird to watch.

We shall see and I understand. If it's any consolation, Adams was only offered by two D1 schools. EWU And PSU. Baldwin and Hill are working on developing his successor and they have 3 in camp right now that might suffice.Chizzang wrote:kalm wrote:

Wide outs Henderson and Jones had 250 yards between them for the Girz...
I can't remember when a Montana team had a stat like that

Re: NDSU at Montana - Game Thread
I guess stating the obvious, but NDSU's achilles heal this yr looks like the secondary..
NDSU is definitely a playoff team, likely a Top 8 seed (will take 9-2). Still think they go 7-1 in the MVFC. 9-2, 2 I-AA losses definitely won't get them a top 2 seed, maybe not top 4, so I think after 12 straight home pkayoff games the last 4 seasons this year is the year we finally see them have to go on the road for a playoff game.

Montana scored 10 points in the last two minutes. Impressive.
Our special teams also was perfect in their 12 points provided.

Re: NDSU at Montana - Pre-Game Thread
NDSU QB was running all over Montana 1st half. 2nd half looks like NDSU didn't try to run him. He seemed more like a statue. Was it his ankle? That was the biggest diff in the game I noticed between the 1st & 2nd half..Appaholic wrote:Yeah. Griz D looked great in the 2nd half. We'll see how NDSU reacts to this game. I still think NDSU is a great team, just glad someone was able to show they are not invincible. And playing in Wa-Griz is tough for any team. The Griz looked good....Chizzang wrote:
