I'm not opposed to them, I just disagree giving bonus points for them. I just think they say "We know we'll never need to expand to four sides.".
I don't look at it as bonus points, it's just less points taken away after factoring the number of sides you have and looking at what you have in place of seating. A building behind the goal post is better than 50 miles of farm land. The only question that needs to be decided is how much better?

Never mind a purple field. Can you imagine Tennessee's BIG ORANGE field? They wouldn't need stadium lights for night games.

Start at 100 points.
-10 for track
-20 for 2 sided stadium (seating) or-10 for 3 sided stadium (seating)
+5 if you have a building in the endzone
+2 if you have a hill in the endzone
+3 if people actually sit on the hill in the endzone
+5 for any overhang at top of stadium
+5 for double deckers
-10 for no video scoreboard
-5 for no tunnel entrance
-20 for off campus location
-5 if you don't have lights
-10 if you don't have suites
-5 for artificial grass

Bonus points awarded to unique features (views from adjacent parking garage, buildings or hills outside of stadium; field level lower than grade outside of stadium (think Michigan here); etc. Let's keep the tailgating aspect out of this.

That's a start. Once the point system is decided on, you can go from there.
Under this scoring system, Washington-Grizzly earns a rating of 110.

+5 for building in endzone (brick walls count as buildings right ;) )
+5 for double deckers
-5 for no lights
-5 for artificial grass
+5 for field being lower than ground outside stadium
+5 for view of game from adjacent dorm buildings

Should be 105. You can't get credit for 4 sides AND a building in the endzone. If you have a building (or brick wall) beyond the seats, those points would come from the "unique" line item. In this case, you already claimed points there for the dorm.

Latest Points System:

Start at 100 points.
-10 for track
-40 for 1 sided stadium (seating) -20 for 2 sided stadium (seating) or-10 for 3 sided stadium (seating)
+5 if you have a building in the endzone
+2 if you have a hill in the endzone
+3 if people actually sit on the hill in the endzone
+5 for any overhang at top of stadium
+5 for double deckers
-10 for no video scoreboard
-5 for no tunnel entrance
-20 for off campus location
-5 if you don't have lights
-10 if you don't have suites
-5 for artificial grass
0 to +5 based on pressbox

Bonus points awarded to unique features (views from adjacent parking garage, buildings or hills outside of stadium; field level lower than grade outside of stadium (think Michigan here); etc. Let's keep the tailgating aspect out of this.

Old Dominion's Foreman Field would come in at 101.
Includes -1 for artificial turf, +1 for the pressbox and +5 for the SRO view from the parking garage.

Thas sounds about right if Montana is at 105.

First off, I can't even believe I am responding to such a moronic thread. In any event, there shouldn't be a deduction for field turf. There should be a deduction for artificial turf with non-football lines sewn in. Second, the non-tunnel entrance is bull crap - look a Clemson - probably one of the 2 or 3 best entrances in all of football. WTF does a tunnel have to do with a football stadium anyway? Also, no lights should be a bigger deduction, as every team should have at least one night game per season. They are awesome.

As for the "sided" issue - it's retarded to even bring that into consideration.

Next time, just make sure you rig the numbers so that ODU can be #1.

Yeah there's no rule about colored turf. My school was considering Maroon turf but found out it costs significantly more.

As for Boise's turf. I've been on it. Had a kicking camp on it in high school. It's pretty nauseating to be honest. BSU has a pretty good advantage on it.

Non football lines are a problem.
In a case like Clemson, you would deduct the 5 points for no tunnel, but you might add 10 points for the hill entrance under the "unique" category.
Lights. Again, this is not set in stone. I think night games are so much better too. With enough commentary, the points can be adjusted.
The "sided" issue is a way of factoring size and balance. Let's face it, end zone seating, while lousy views, makes for a better stadium more often than not.
This has nothing to do with ODU. I didn't start the discussions on stadiums. But now that you have brought ODU up, you have to admit that the stadium is pretty damn nice and would likely be in the top 10.

The only bad views at Southern are in the corners. On the east side the visiting band sits in the Northeast corner, who cares what they see. Here's a picture.

Start at 100 points.
-20 for 2 sided stadium (seating)
+5 for any overhang at top of stadium
+5 based on pressbox

I'm not taking 5 off because we got grand new freaking Mondoturf which is better than grass.

UNI is sitting at 90, could probably have more but it's a dome so we would give a "fuck you play outisde!"

I agree about not taking off for the turf. No choice in a dome. Not sure how to consider domes. It's gotta be louder which would add points. But indoor football can be hard on the eyes (TV perspective), yet easy on the fans in cold climate areas.
Question: Can you really take the full 5 points on a pressbox in a dome? I think the idea is that it makes the stadium look bigger. I doubt that will matter much in a dome.

UNI has done a lot of work on our pressboxes and suites lately. I'll have to grab pictures while I'm at work someday of the new looking dome.

Aren't players having some problems with traction on that new turf in the UNI Dome? Thats what I had been hearing at least. Have they fixed that problem?

It's new turf, that is always a problem with new turf. Most of the problem is not knowing what kind of cleat to use, which is getting worked out.
