Actually the NDSU secondary is expected to be very good. Several players of NFL abilities.

As far as print medial goes the Fargo Forum at in-forum.com is always a good start. Bison Media Blog is very active on game coverage as well. A lot of my information is taken from the printed media and brought here.

I think we can now all agree

1) The game is of national importance, on the level of a spotlight game
2) Lafayette has a rich football tradition
3) Expect a competitive Lafayette squad
4) Expectations for a sell-out are well founded
5) The elite college football registry points to a clash of traditions and commitment to the game over time with the intent to be competitive. It should be a whale of a game.

I think we can now all agree that you HAVE no interest outside of North Dakota.

None of this has anything to do with the football game. NDSU is a top notch program. I really have a hard time understanding how many of you foolishly look at that statement as a zero-sum challenge: "If NDSU is good then we arent so good", is simple minded thinking. Of course your programs are good. They may even equal or surpass NDSU in some ways on some occasions. Others wont, big deal. Lighten up a little, the BISON are a big deal and you might as well just get used to it.

As the FCS world begins taking stock of opening weekend this game is going to be in the forefront. It will be mentioned with the top 10 teams as one of the games where the nations biggest and best teams take to the field in the nations biggest and best games. To think any differently is simple minded.

The game is big because The NDSU BISON are big. Having the Leopards lining up against The BISON sure doesn't hurt!

I know many of you are not following the Leopards with the same interest and intensity that you watch the NDSU BISON so I thought you might be interested in the latest from Lafayette:

Lafayette football was well-represented on college football guru Phil Steele's preseason All-Patriot League teams released today, as 13 Leopards were named to either the first- or second- team, the highest total of any team in the conference. Of the 13 student-athletes honored,. 12 are going into their senior seasons

This has, of course, been part of our focus here. The Lafayette Leopards will bring a fine football tradition and a lot of good experience to the Fabulous Fargo Dome. It's all adding to the excitment and interest building around this game.

Members of the Lafayette football team participated in an Ironman Competition:

Free-safety Kyle Simmons '12 and tailback Marcellus Irving '14 combined for the best time among the participants, finishing in 1:35:51. The Leopards wrap up summer workouts on Thursday July 26, before preseason camp begins Aug. 7.

Just a few reminders on the great Lafayette Football tradition:

Three former members of the Lafayette football program have been named to the Patriot League Football 25th Anniversary Team, as announced this afternoon by the league office. Defensive back B.J. Gallis '97, placekicker Jason McLaughlin '95 and linebacker Andy Romans '09 were voted to the silver anniversary squad by the seven current football member schools of the Patriot League.

Former Lafayette football standout Blake Costanzo '06 has inked a new deal with the San Francisco 49ers, putting his name on a contract that could be worth as much as $800,000 according to The Bergen Record.

As far as the BISON go, the defensive backfield is looking good. Expect a lot of INTs and watch in particular the yds after INT stat. It will be key just like our defensive pts/yds ratio was last season. Its a talented bunch with some experience issues but NDSU is recruiting at a very high level. There will be more youth on this team again this year.

Here are some true freshman you are very likely to see: Running back Matt Jones and tight ends Derek Lee and Andrew Bonnet.

Jones is creating a buzz in Fargo. The BISON are going to have a powerful running game. They are deep at running back and QB.

NDSU continues to have concerns at receiver. Its a young bunch, just learning the trade. Lets hope for the best. We will be watching them closely.

Only 1509 reserved tickets left for the Sept. 3rd game. They sold about 1500 reserved tickets last week. I think this has a very good chance of being a sell-out.
