About five different boards are reporting that Appalachian State will play LSU either the 2nd or 3d week of September on National Television. ABC or whoever it is carrying it will be touting it as the National Champion LSU -vs- the National Champion Appalachian State (BCS vs FCS). Even one of the higher ups in the information offices verified that they are trying to finalize details.

This could be a pretty exciting game. About time someone recognizes that FCS has very good teams and not some low-life form of football.

When the hell is the last time ABC covered any sporting event of significance?

It's all over the MMB, and the Charlotte boards. Apparently LSU is starting to talk about it, too. Someone on the MMB emailed LSU's assistant AD and got a pretty interesting response. Its on thw MMB if you're interested.

yes, there is a thread where discussion about possibly playing the game is ongoing, but NO site that I'm aware of is 'reporting' it. And none of them have mentioned ABC, nor any finalization of details.
the email from the LSU guy only confirmed that we are currently scheduled to play them next year, nothing more.

This has been going on for years with some of these schools complaining about that. That's why LSU is now playing LaTech, UL-Lafayette and UL-Monroe on a rotating basis. If they played McNeese State, then all of the other FCS schools would be "up in arms" that LSU isn't playing them either.
Ya know what, BIG DEAL that LSU isn't playing McNeese. Them and Southern are the only 2 Louisiana FCS schools complaining that they can't go to Tiger Stadium to get "taken to the woodshed" and beaten. McNeese would definitely have the best chance against LSU out of all FCS teams, but get over it.
As for the game being on ABC, I HIGHLY doubt it. I don't think they can show an SEC home game on that station. I keep hear it would be on ESPN. Either way, I'm going to try to be there.

Let me say something so some of you realize Mcneese fans aren't just whining.
First, We have no issue with LSU Playing APP State in general! The issue is that for the last several years, instead of offering any of the in state FCS teams like Mcneese, Nicholls, NWST or whoever, they have consistently gone out of their way to scedule out of state FCS teams like App, The Citadel, W. Carolina, etc.. In the Meantime, they said they would play one of the state FCS teams if they won the National Title, but they only mentioned that after the 2002 season when Mcneese lost in the title game.. At least that's when it was made public, so who really knows if they just said that.. Had they made an effort several years ago to schedule the in state FCS teams at about 1 every year or so, they'd already be through the rotation likely..
Besides, They been playing inferior competition in teams like UL-L, UL-M and LA Tech in the meantime in which the only difference is they are FBS teams, at least on paper.. Mcneese would also bring 10,000 + fans unlike any other school.. I guess it makes too much sense
Second, Mcneese is playing UNC, so that helps financially this year, but in regards to finances, Mcneese would only have a short bus trip and less expenses to play LSU, while the same goes if App state were able to play UNC at the same time..

UNC-CH turned ASU down for 2008 for $50K less than they will pay McNeese St.

I think this game (being played in 2008) is more from a push by network more than anything. Yes, they were to play next year but the potential to make this game a media event ( and $$) was too good to pass up. If we all want the same, then lets all go out and beat the #5 FBS team next year.

Not sure why ABC would broadcast the game since the SEC has a television contract with CBS so if anyone it would be CBS broadcasting the game. Now ESPN might pick it up for one of thier cable networks but over the air network would be CBS as far as I know. Second none of the FCS schools in Lousiana beat a team with the national reputation Michigan has last season and that's the main reason in my opinion that the networks would even have this discussion apart from the Champion vs. Champion aspect. Both Mc Neese and Nichols beat FBS opponents, but none were Michigan.
