Sounds like a done deal.

So who does UR go after to replace London? Going to start some dominoes at the I-AA level....

They're going to have a tough time. Their team was LOADED with seniors this year. Breaking in a lot of new players and a new coach will not be easy.

If I were Richmond, I'd go after Gilmore from Holy Cross.

London has apparently accepted the job.

That's a compliment to Richmond. London is a good coach - glad someone finally was paying attention.

I agree. The man knows his footyball. Big loss for Richmond IMO.

it makes for an interesting combination with her blinding homerage for the SLC.... seems to me the two are correlated.... both insanely incorrect.... actually now that I think about it... her love for philly and hatred of Frank Sinatra thrown into the mix make me realize why she thinks no one listens to her.... she's just wrong a lot. :kisswink:

Not to take anything away from London, but he's had his success with someone else's recruits, right? He's only been at Richmond for a couple of years.

Either would be good. HC seems more of a step up than Elon.

First of all, it is disappointing that Richmond did not go further in the playoffs. They ran into the best player in the FCS and a very good team (ASU). I hope that Richmond will cherish its 2008 NCAA Championship Trophy becaue I fear that we are going to see an extended "dark age" for UR football. My reasons: the program loses several 5th year seniors. Any recruits being pursued by the Spiders will most likely jump to other programs. Also how many good coaches would go to a school whose stadium will seat only 8700, when they can coach at a FCS school with a stadium of 12000+ seating capacity? I just hope this is not the beginning of a "slippery slope" ie Northeastern, Hofstra! :? :? :?

Yeah, they're all Clawson's guys, I think 14 starters were fifth-year seniors. So London can win with talent that's there, but the question is how can he recruit? At most, his guys would be true sophomores and RS-freshmen, so there's really no way to see his impact for another year or two. If whoever Richmond signs continues to win, my opinion of London will improve. Until then, UVA has hired a coach who was in the family who has shown he can motivate kids to win, but his recruiting skills should be questioned until proven otherwise.

And FWIW, I think UVA made a smart move hiring a coach who has faced similar academic restrictions - while I know the Hoos are desperate to win, they are proud of their academic standing and I can't see themselves lowering their standards to bring in kids who can play just to win, similar to Richmond or W&M.

I think London can recruit. He did a good job when he was at UVA recruiting... and did a good job in his short time at Richmond.

I think the bigger question is whether he can develop and mold the talent.

This isn't a big surprise to see London go to UVa. He was on Grohs' staff for several years and was the recruiting coordinator from 01-04. He's a solid in-state recruiter and has done well nabbing talent from the Norfolk/Chesapeake/Portsmouth/Va Beach area. Now he just has to make the program relevant again, and IMO it could take a couple years.

Well I did spend 4 years defending Harvard on AGS.. for reasons I have yet to understand
that was an ass pounding of epic proportion - as one might understand in 2004 - an undefeated Harvard squad was considered poo-poo by the likes of JMU & Montana fans as they marched on their merry way to a national showdown...

UR and Elon are both smaller privates in the South. UR's program right now, even with the new small stadium coming on, would only be a slight step up from Elon. And the CAA is only a slight step up from the So-Con. So for Lembo going from Elon to UR would only be a slight step up. Could even say that would be more of a lateral move. I don't really see that being a good possibility.

Gilmore from HC would make a lot more sense. That would definitely be a big step up.

Are there any coordinators at the I-A, especially BCS level, that anyone has heard of being mentioned as a candidate? After all, that's what happened last time when London came over from UVA.

Wow, now I need to tell this Richmond story.

So I was walking in the private Richmond parking lot next to the road when I noticed several people lining up. I then noticed the "Spider Walk" was happening. I watched every player pass by in single file. Then Mike London passed by. Without thinking, I said "Good luck in Charlottsville coach". He didn't flinch, but the young woman next to me was disgusted and told me to have intercourse with myself.. The guy behind me told me he should rip my head off. No joke, I laughed it his face, saying at Georgia Southern I would get my head ripped off, not here.
