http://www.mercurynews.com/sports/ci_13914945Sources said two members of Tomey's staff are under consideration: receivers coach Ken Margerum, a finalist when Tomey was hired five years ago; and defensive coordinator Keith Burns, who was 7-28 as Tulsa's coach from 2000-02 but recruited the bulk of the roster that reached the Humanitarian Bowl in '03.
Other coaches who have expressed interest or are under consideration include:
# University of San Diego coach Ron Caragher, who played quarterback at Bellarmine College Prep.
# Terry Shea, who was 15-6-2 in two seasons as the Spartans' coach before leaving to join Bill Walsh's
staff at Stanford.
# 49ers assistant Tom Rathman, whose first stint on the 49ers' staff overlapped with Bowen's tenure in the team's front office.
# Nevada defensive coordinator Nigel Burton.
# Yale coach Tom Williams, who coached under Tomey for two years (and played and coached at Stanford).
# Norm Chow. Yep, the quarterback guru is interested in SJSU, according to former Spartans quarterback Steve Clarkson, who has known Chow for years.
"The one thing he hasn't been, is a head coach," said Clarkson, one of the top quarterback tutors in the game. "When you're that creative, you want to give it a shot."
Whether Chow would accept the job and whether SJSU would offer are differently matters entirely.
"You have to build with a quarterback, so you need somebody with a proven track record of developing quarterbacks," Clarkson said, "and that's Norm."

Money. FBS experience.JALMOND wrote:Burton is off the list.
I guess the big question, why would Hauck go to San Jose? Nothing there that can even suggest that San Jose is a better job than Montana. Two Pac-10 schools in the Bay area to fight for recruits and it can be argued that San Jose is not even the top WAC program in California. Why would Hauck even want to get involved in this headache? For the opportunity to play the fourth best team in the MAC in the Mutual of Omaha Bowl every year?
And don't forget Dennehy to Utah St. That worked out welldbackjon wrote:Money. FBS experience.JALMOND wrote:Burton is off the list.

I think BH would hold out for a better job, unless SJSU threw a lot of money at him.
Joe Glenn did leave for Wyoming, which wasn't much better a job
It can be ARGUED? That would imply some sort of doubt. There are only two WAC programs in Cali, and Fresneck is LIGHT-YEARS ahead of SJSU. Not an "argument." Established, demonstrable fact. The ONE thing going for SJSU is their history of sneaking up on Stanford. Not much else.JALMOND wrote:Burton is off the list.

My point exactly. If (repeat, If) SJSU and Fresno were equal on the field, one could look at student life and I'd say there are more things for a kid to do in San Jose than in Fresno. But things are not equal and you are correct, Fresno is way ahead of San Jose, college football wise. Be like someone choosing, well, Portland State over Montana (at this point anyway).SuperHornet wrote:It can be ARGUED? That would imply some sort of doubt.
