Hauck hired at UNLV

As of ten minutes ago, Hauck is still HC at Montana, according to MontanaGrizzlies.com. UNLVRebels.com merely states that the new man will be introduced TOMORROW at a press conference; it did not say who.

While the two school sites still show no indication of this, the story has hit too many news outlets to deny. SacBuzz is citing a CBS Sports report about the hire as well.

Hauck has his work cut out for him in terms of hiring a staff.

The Rebs site lists FOUR assistants currently on staff in a caretaker status. Two are GAs, one is a S&C coach, and the other is the assistant recruiting coordinator. Normally, an incoming coach keeps one or two position coaches for continuity purposes, but that's clearly not happening here. One can't really expect GAs to have any sort of authority, right?

Hauck was hired for $350,000, not the reported $700,000. That has to be near the bottom as far as FBS coaches pay.

New UNLV football coach Bobby Hauck agreed to an incentive-heavy three-year contract today that pays him an annual salary of $350,000.

Hauck, 45, receives $150,000 in base pay, $150,000 for media obligations and $50,000 for public appearances.

The contract also includes the following postseason incentives:
— $100,000 for making a Bowl Championship Series game
— $25,000 for the MAACO Bowl Las Vegas
— $20,000 for the Poinsettia Bowl
— $15,000 for the Independence Bowl
— $10,000 for the Armed Forces or New Mexico bowl.

Hauck also receives the following incentives for regular-season performance:
— $15,000 for 11 victories
— $12,500 for 10
— $10,000 for nine
— $7,500 for eight
— $5,000 for seven.

In addition, he receives a $10,000 bonus for appearing in a season's final coaches' Top 25 poll, $10,000 for being named Mountain West Conference Coach of the Year, and $5,000 for an Academic Progress Report greater than 925.

That sounds abusively low for MWC standards, especially in money town, but that being said, it is a football coaches burial ground, worse than Wyoming by a ways. I wish him the best but he is likely to end up in coaches purgatory, that waiting place in a few seasons.

Wyomings new coach has a package that puts him above the half million mark with out nearly as many hoops to hop through that was posted above.

Does this mean that if he gets 11 victories, he receives $15000, $12500, $10000, $7500, and $5000 ($50000 total)...or just the $15000? I feel like it'd be the $50000.

Wow, that's hard to believe that Montana pays their coach that much less than Appalachian, considering App is not exactly in the upper echelon of FCS when it comes to paying for coaching. That means Hauck was making less than Dennis Wagner at Western Carolina. No wonder he left, I would have too.

The UNLV job reportedly pays about $350,000 before incentives, a hefty raise from the $230,000 Hauck made for the Grizzlies’ just-ended 14-1 campaign. That included incentives for playoff wins, attendance and awards. Hauck had a base salary of $144,500 for the one-year contract he signed in February.

The Review-Journal is reporting that Hauck will make $150,000 in base pay, $150,000 for media obligations and $50,000 for public appearances. Incentives could take his salary to $490,000 annually for the three-year deal.
