Change to Appalachian's 2010 Schedule

It was announced earlier today that the previously scheduled October 2nd game at Samford has been moved up a week to September 25. App's bye week was moved back a week to accomodate the change. It appears theat the SoCon didn't want Samford playing too many conference games with the opponent coming off of a bye week.

I think there was a season a couple years ago where just about every team the Griz played was coming off a bye week and had two weeks to prepare....
Not sure, and too lazy to go check.

Apparently Samford had four or five games last year were their opponents were coming off a bye week. It was shaping up to be the same this year so I guess it's sorta kinda fair for the SoCon to make some adjustments.
I just wish they schedule makers that be would vary ASU's slate on occasion. The 2010 season will be the 13th season out of 14 years were the Apps have to play Wofford, Georgia Southern, and Furman in back-to-back-to-back weeks. Probably one of (if not) the toughest three game sets out there and we're doing it year after year.

At one time we were set up to get a break from that this year. Then the schedule gets finalized and it's the same as it ever was.

And before 1997, replace Wofford with Marshall.

So how does this affect Elon and GSU? Elon was supposed to play Sam on 9/25 but are now playing them on 10/2 which was the day the Phoenix were supposed to play GSU.

But we weren't playing GaSouth then I don't believe....didn't GSU replace Marshall so the amount of white trash representating SoCon wouldn't drop to critical level?

Any of you Appy State fans planning on making it to Gainesville?
Just wondering how well you guys travel. I would expect quite well...given the recent history of Appy State vs FBS programs...and the fact that it is a top notch FCS program...

Georgia Southern joined the SoCon in 1991 and from 1993 to 1996 ASU played Marshall, the Eagles, and Furman in consecutive weeks. It's been Wofford since.
So really in 17 out of 18 seasons we've played the SoCon's toughest consecutively. That's a heck of a grind but we do it well.
Something like 25-11 (.694) in 36 total games against the three during the stretch.

Appalachian travels very well. Just ask Richmond. I am planning on going as of right now but it will all depend on work as it gets closer. I would love to visit the Swamp and this is the perfect opportunity. Should be a great experience and game.

I'll be there. Got the plans set. I would imagine we'll bring, at least, 5k. That's how many we brought to Michigan (though, being there I think there was more). I'm looking forward to it.

I have tentative plans to go to Gainesville. I also have season tickets for the Carolina Panthers and I am hoping we are on the road the Sunday after so I can make the trip. I'll know for sure in April...

I'll be there. I never miss any of our "feature" road games and certainly wouldn't miss this one. One of the guys that I have Atl Falcon season tix with is a Gator alum and still has a residence near UF. We already have a group of 4 couples set (1 ASU
and 3 UF). It should be fun and hopefully the Gators are looking forward to the FSU game the following week and forget about this little FCU school.
