W&M 2010 schedule.

Was pretty much known, but only announced officially last night. This is a tough one, with a number of thorns. The three straight road weeks against UNC, UNH and JMU leading into November comprise a rough stretch. The UNC game would have been terrific as an opener (was originally scheduled for Sept. 4), but is really a burden stuck in the middle of the year.

When is Fall Break? We might not have any students at the URI game if it's the second weekend in October.

At least you have 7 games in-state...although 3 trips to the Northeast is brutal

But at least they gave you the 2 trips to the Northeast (especially Maine) in the early part of the season. But I don't like conference games to start the season at all.

It wasn't our first choice. UNC added a Labor Day weekend game vs LSU in Atlanta for TV bucks, and had to move us to late October to make room on their schedule. I'm hoping they sweetened our guarantee for us to sign off on that one!

-I've looked at all the CAA schedules, and those last 5 games are the most brutal 5 game stretch of any CAA team.
-On top of that don't get to play Towson
-On top of that what appears to be the only CAA team with 3 plane trips to play CAA teams.

*Maine looks like they have 4 plane trips, but 2 of those, Cuse and Monmouth, are OOC.
UMass looks like they have 3, but one, Michigan is OOC.
URI looks like they have 3, but one, Buffalo, is OOC.

Looks to be the toughest CAA schedule.

Wow the last five games are brutal! Still can't figure why UNC will risk a loss to W&M and won't give ASU a shot. If W&M wins the CAA with that schudule they get my vote for #1.

I was thinking if they go 4-1 down that last stretch they'll be my favorite to win the playoffs.

I think that a couple of the ACC Universities still have memories of a time when schools like W&M and RIchmond were in the same conference that they were. So this leads to UVA, Duke, and UNC scheduling these schools which they were former "rivals" of (however small). Also I think that they still see each other as academic rivals, so why not play?

I don't remember the exact quote from Butch Davis a couple of years ago when he was asked about scheduling ASU and he said something to the effect of "I'm not worried about losing, but if we play an FCS team we're going to make sure it's one where our first team doesn't have to play the entire game to win". Scheduling W&M, Richmond, Nova or JMU in recent years doesn't guarentee that to UNC or any other ACC school in NC.

I agree that scheduling the better CAA schools is similar to scheduling ASU, but I think that the history between UNC, Duke, Wake or UVA and the CAA schools is why they are getting the calls. Also for Duke to lose twice in a row to Richmond does not open them up to the instate ridicule that losing to ASU or Elon would.

Why, because they can't walk across the street to play the game?

Oh, and BTW, 6-5 and out of the playoffs. :coffee:

Those three "brutal" road games are still closer than any of NAU's road conference games.

I didn't realize ODU is playing both W&M and Poly this year. Will be interesting to see how they do

It's not the flight games that are brutal, it's the stretch with UNC, UNH and JMU because they will be very difficult games on the road. The only down side to the New England trips is the expense, and the difficulty for fans to get to them. Flying to Maine is easier on the team than driving to Philly.

So let's see...so far you've got W&M, Nova and UNH all going 6-5 and missing the playoffs.

Who do you think is going to get in from the CAA?

The 'Griz are praying that no CAA team gets in the playoffs......

If thats the case then sucks for Maine. Mapquest says 8:52/504 miles. By bus certainly over 9 hrs, going through NYC maybe over 10.

Victories in bold. 8-3, at-large bid into the playoffs. :coffee:

Of course, that's assuming they had to travel from Missoula for the games. If they were to move lock stock and barrel to Wiliamsburg, they beat Richmond and possibly Villanova. 8-) 8-) 8-)
