"Because Montana Hates It"

Saw this article that was posted yesterday online in the Spokesman Review:
The initial hype has subsided, but Eastern Washington University’s decision to replace the natural grass in Woodward Field with a red synthetic playing surface continues to stir interest and conversations across the country.

Since the school first announced late last month that former Eagle Michael Roos and his wife, Katherine, had pledged $500,000 toward the project, EWU and its proposed red turf have been at the center of discussions on several cable television shows, including ESPN’s “Pardon the Interuption,” and a host of radio programs, including the nationally syndicated “The Dan Patrick Show.”
.
.
.
.
“If there is one reason on this entire planet that makes me feel certain we’re doing the right thing with this red turf project,” said Hughes, “it’s because Montana hates it.”

I'd say that's reason enough.

I love when rivals do little things to irritate the other. Every other year when Furman comes to Boone, we wait until Furman and Bobby Lamb comes back on the field from halftime to show a particular going for two moment as part of the "Great Moments in ASU History" segment on the big screen.

Also when during the JMU/ASU 2007 playoff game when we were showing the past NCAA Championship game highlights from 1999 onward in order and skipped 2004.

Well...I think Montana should have a say on what happens at Washington Grizzly West

When do tickets go on sale? I imagine that first game on the red turf against the Griz is going to be a tough ticket to come by.

Still trying to figure out where he came up with the "because Montana hates it" quote. Has he been reading eGriz? Maybe the Griz will show up in their all maroon unis and have a contest to see who can blend in with the field more....good for the Eagles though and nice to see a former player give back to the school. The Griz need a new athletic center/locker room/weight room so I would like to see some former players and NFL players donate to the cause.

Damn, I didn't even think of that. No way I'm missing that game.

Well, miss it. Nothing will change re: the Griz. Maybe the red turf will hide the blood of EWU when it hosts the Griz & loses for the umpteenth time.

You have to try something when you're in the lower third of the BSC in attendance.

Since when is Eastern Washington our rival?

I know every team wants to be our rival, but come on...

Does Montana HAVE a rival, in the true sense of the word? Records against current conference teams:

Sac State - 15-0 all-time
EWU - 25-10 (including 14-3 since 1993)
Idaho State - 35-13 (including 24-2 since 1985)
Montana State - 69-35 (including 21-3 since 1986)
NAU - 32-11 (including 22-1 since 1988)
UNC - 9-1 (including the last 9 straight)
PSU - 26-11 (including 13-2 since 1989)
Weber St - 37-12 (including 20-3 since 1988)

Let's look outside our conference:

In this decade we have the following records against other FCS conferences:

CAA 7-4
GWFC 12-1
MVFC 5-2
NEC 2-0
OVC 1-0
Southern 3-2
Southland 9-2

Honestly, I've never been a big fan of the "move up" conversation, but looking at those numbers :ohno: :ohno: :ohno: something's got to give. :coffee: :coffee:

It can't actually happen. The thought of this atrocity makes me cringe.

Rowdy, you should have seen the thread a couple weeks ago (not this one) that went on for pages and pages.

Lets just say that you are not in the minority on that opinion.

Well start clicking your heels Dorothy, because it's happening. A red field with black endzones looks pretty slick, certainly more so than the Tripolar puke shades ISU's seats are in that downs-syndrome-looking glorified-carport. Talk about ugly! :puke: :puke: :puke:

I agree our dome is due for some minor upgrades. But it's just so damn multi-faceted... I mean, monster truck shows, rodeos, and i think we had a Chris LeDoux concert there in the early 90's...

But let's not change the subject.

If they are doing because "Montana hates it" your athletic director is dumb as fuck, and your athletic department might just fold in the coming years.

Yeah Clenz, we're doing it just to try and get on a conference team's nerves. We don't even give a shit about improving our playing surface that has more divots and smears than your face from HS :ugeek: . Frankly I'm surprised we're not just saving ourselves the $ and painting the grass and mud red. :coffee:

The Dome was completed in 1970 there have been over 1 million tickets sold to different venues including hosting the 87-88 NCAA D1AA National championship games. The Simplot Games the largest high school track meet in the country and of course the Dodge National Circuit Finals Rodeo. What does Eastern have? Even with a red field that little 8500 seat stadium will still be a peace of SH*%.
