I haven't really been that impressed with any FCS marching bands. NDSU was ok. MoSt, SIU, IlSt, Drake, New Hampshire, YSU, and WIU all were below average. Seems like App St's was good in 05.

Devil's Gun by Mississippi Valley State is the most interesting thing to ever come out of Itta Bena. Their band sounds like trash playing it but the song is catchy and since they don't score many TD's you don't get tired of hearing it.

Another is Alcorn's FSU ripoff Cherokee, it's easy to get sick of this song

I like the Herd of Thunder (USF) if for nothing else their entrance to the field.

Probably my favorite next to FSU and Southern, UCF's chant:

For some reason, the UCF one reminds me of Rock Chalk Jayhawk.

For some reason the UCF one seems like a blatant rip off of FSU...

UCF's actually came first. (or at least that's what UCF people say) FSU just perfected it.

Last year Cal-Davis's band accompanied their team to Portland. Had been awhile since I heard a marching band. I don't have anything to compare them to, but I was very impressed. Enjoyed it very much.

Yes, that song was banned because of fans chanting "The South will rise again". They are considering letting them play it again though. More to note, the Ole Miss band director is a Jax State Alumni.
As far as favorite goes:
JMU (They don't move very much, but they have a good sound)
Norfolk State (One of the few HBCU bands that consistantly care about sound quality)
UMass (Their program is amazing)
Fresno State
Florida State
Least Favorite:
FAMU
Bama
UTC
Southern

Western Carolina is as good as it gets in the FCS.
The pride of the ACCk, TARHEEL band is the best.

Haven't seen many bands, but UMass was impressive.
For songs, it may be because my fraternity hijacked it for a drinking song, but I always obey when the Maine band tells us to 'Fill the Steins;.

Arguments break out every year, on BCF, after the TSU game.... about the bands. It has gotten old because the fans of technically correct and proper "show" bands can't get a grip on why people like me think TSU's band is better. It isn't that they are musically superior rather, I want to be entertained at halftime. The Ocean of Soul does that.
I grew up going to State D&B competitons (my mom and siblings were in D&B.) I was in my HS band, my kids were in their HS band. I also grew up watching the Bayou Classic and loved Grambling vs Southern for halftime (when they would actually show halftimes on TV. If you remember that you're old like me) I had my fill of UIL competitions and I understand the differences. However, I am also a Baby Boomer and I like loud and proud and the stuff they do. I just do. (I even "do my own thing" when they play.) You can't do very much shakin' to "Hill Country Suite"

I have a double album of all the great football fight songs. Was produced by the University of Michigan Band back in the 1970's. I've taped it and made a CD to play in my car on Saturdays as I drive over to Goodman. If you can get your hands on it, get it.
