Who has been the best player to come from your school and make it in the NFL?

Tyler Thigpen did pretty good in '08 but bad coaching sent him to Miami as back up in '09.
Mike Tolbert has done a decent job in San Diego as FB.
Jerome Simpson... BUST!!
Quinten Teal has seen some playing time but not much.

Greg Landry was a first round draft pick (#11 overall) in 1968 by the Detroit Lions...a Pro Bowl selection in 1971...
Milt Morin was a first round pick in 1966 (#14 overall), a Pro Bowl selection in 1968 and 1971, played TE for the Cleveland Browns (1966-1975)

Only two of the more recent,
LB Jeromy Cain (Bears/Jags)
Marcel Shipp (Arizona)

And in this upcoming draft, a projected 2nd rounder

JMU - Charles Haley & Gary Clark have been the most successful IMO...Scott Norwood missed a game winning FG in a superbowl if I remember correctly:( Haley may make it to the HOF

But which is your best player - the original question. Guys that haven't even been drafted yet can't have been the best NFL player you've ever had. Unless I'm misinterpreting the intent of the thread.

I'm thinking Darren Sharper--5 time all-pro, elected to NFL all-decade team for 2000s, leader for career interceptions among active players, 2nd all time in picks returned for TDs.
You'd have to say Mike Tomlin has made his mark, too.

I don't know, you pick which was best....I think I offered some possibilities...

Not me Col. I don't know much about either of those player to make a decision. I'll leave that up to people who do know. The 2 I mentioned from TXST I left for others to decide also but they are players I knew about before moving to Texas. Maybe it was the teams I follow/ed

I'd go with Simmons on yours.

Stump Mitchell was a good one.

Although a kicker, Greg Davis was money.

Andre Roberts will likely go in the 3rd round this year and will be well known as a slot receiver within two season.

I'd rate them:

#1. Greg Landry: 16,052 career passing yards (115th all-time) and 119 TDs (98 passing: 118th all-time).
#2. Milt Morin: 4208 receiving yards (35th all-time for TEs) and 16 TDs.
#3. Marcel Shipp: 3134 rushing and receiving yards with 14 TDs.
#4. Steve Schubert: 866 punt return yards (160th all-time) with 3 PR TDs (tied for 33rd all-time).

I think Landry is also somewhere near the top all-time among rushing QBs (2655 yards and 21 TDs), but I can't find a QB-only all-time rushing list. He ranks 4th all-time in yards per carry (all positions) at 6.2, after Michael Vick, Bobby Douglass and Randall Cunningham.

The only guy from W&M who could be argued ahead of Darren Sharper is Lou Creekmur, who played 10 seasons for the Detroit Lions as a lineman, and who is in the Hall of Fame. Lou was an eight-time Pro Bowl selection, and made six All-NFL teams. He played from 1950 through 1959, a period during which the Lions won three NFL championships.

Rich Gannon for the UD Fightin' Blue Hens was the 2002 NFL MVP and had quite a run with the Raiders. Hoping Joe Flacco will be right up there at some point.

I'd say Dexter Coakley.

Although I hate to give kickers credit for anything, I'd have to go with

Sean Landetta , 1985-2005 60,000+ punting yards, 43.3 average

Second place would be Dave Meggett.

Third would be Jermon Bushrod, the starting LT for the Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints!

WR Shawn Collins was the only 1st round pick out to NAU, but he was a bust...
WR Michael Haynes had a solid career - ranks 66th on the all-time NFL reception yards
WR Pete Mandley is 55th on career punt return yards list

Both of these are fairly recent UM graduates, currently playing (and doing well) in the NFL:

Kroy Biermann - DE - Falcons (got a lot of playing time this year and with a name that's pronounced "Beerman" you're guaranteed to become a fan favorite)
Dan Carpenter - K - Dolphins (Pro Bowler this year)

A little further back:

Scott Gragg - OT - Giants, 49ers and Jets (just got hired as UM's O-line coach)
Tim Hauck - S - 6 different teams in 12 years (yes, he's the brother of former UM coach Bobby Hauck)
