2010 NEC Conference Schedules
With the release of Saint Francis' schedule for 2010 I was able to fill in the remaining games for NEC Conference games.
With Albany non conference slate already known this also includes a completed Albany schedule.

Re: 2010 NEC Conference Schedules
For Wagner it now looks like Pace (D2) on Sept. 4th at home and at Assumption (D2) on Sept. 11th. OOC schedule looks like; (H) Pace, (A) Assumption and (H) Cornell. Go ahead NEC fans and bash. It's deserved.

Re: 2010 NEC Conference Schedules
Seahawk,
I have no problem with NEC teams buying one D-II home game to offset a $$ game on the ROAD at a FCS power (although I prefer if CCSU didn't). The reality is: it is very difficult for most NEC teams to get home games, so really I guess we have no choice.
However, there is NO EXCUSE for a NEC team to play an AWAY game at a D-II/D-III opponent!!!!!!!

I agree. Home games against DII's are fine. Away games are not.aceinthehole wrote:Seahawk,

I don't like this apparent alliance that Wagner has with the NE10. If Hamline wants to play those teams maybe he should just move down?

Re: 2010 NEC Conference Schedules
The following is simply an observation. I'm certainly in no position to talk trash on this issue, and now that I'm a parent/fan of both the NEC and the PFL, I would be poking myself in the eye if I were to criticize. (I have the added perspective that my younger son was offered significant money to play for a DII NE10 program before accepting the offer from Duquesne, and my older son received scholarship offers from more than one NEC program before deciding to head to Butler.)
While the final official schedules have yet to be announced in some cases, it appears that the nine team NEC has almost as many sub-DI games scheduled as the the ten team PFL.
After suffering all of the slings and arrows being directed at the PFL from NEC fans regarding this issue, it just appears a bit... ironic?
And Butler is traveling to DIII Albion in Michigan again this year. On the other hand, Butler's three DIII games last year (one on the road - across town - at Franklin) didn't seem to hurt them when it came time for the Gridiron Classic.
Also, aren't a lot of people predicting that Wagner will challenge for the NEC title this year? Maybe Wagner is pulling a page from a (successful) Butler playbook.
I guess message boards are here for us to bitch and moan and talk a little smack. It just gets a little old. Particularly post-Hofstra/Northeastern, I'm just thrilled that all of these schools are still sponsoring football and the boys have the opportunity to play the greatest game in the world.

Re: 2010 NEC Conference Schedules
One thing to remember is that the NEC fans throwing arrows at the PFL teams for scheduling too many Sub DII games are the same NEC fans hurling fire balls at NEC teams that do it.CoachL wrote:The following is simply an observation. And right now there are only two NEC teams that have problem schedules - Bryant and Wagner. Bryant has a resonable excuse seeing as Hofstra bailed on them. Wagner has no excuse at all and even Wagner fans agree on this issue.
The reason people get in a tussle over scheduling sub-DI games is because of what it does to SOS. A lot of it stems from the overzealous San Diego fans from the Harbough run that believed San Diego should have gotten an at-large bid despite having a horrendously weak schedule. The argument has always been that PFL and NEC fans shouldn't complain one iota about not getting an at-large as long as their teams continue to schedule multiple DII teams.
Another point is with regards to national recognition. Playing Sub DI games isn't necessarily a absolute sign of the weakness of one team (e.g. Butler last year), but it also doesn't provide a measurement for national recognition. Butler will never be a Top 25 team if it plays a DIII game on the road. It just won't happen.
The argument I have against playing any Sub-DI games at all is that, for recruiting purposes, the bottom of the FCS needs to separate itself from the DII leagues. Wagner is doing the exact opposite as is Butler. As an Albany fan I want my team to be associated with the CAA. Not the NE10. That's why I would be absolutely irate if we ever scheduled an NE10 team.

Re: 2010 NEC Conference Schedules
One thing is for sure. These teams are making an effort to make the schedules better, and thats something to applaud.
So far the Pioneer is at 7 less non Div I games over last year. We can probably expect a couple more before all schedules are done, but we should see an overall improvement.
Also I have seen the suggestion that Butler will improve on their schedule in the future, right now I guess they are locked in on a old long term contract with Albion.
For the NEC, their overall non Div I game count will go up this season, mostly due to Bryant being listed among them now while still officially in transition, so that is important to look at.
Overall I think both leagues are trying to better their schedules, and as I said, thats something to applaud.

Re: 2010 NEC Conference Schedules
Tell me about it, but that's the cost of playing in a absolutely horrendous facility. We can't even get home-and-homes with the lower OOC teams anymore.89Hen wrote:Albany with four home games and none until October?
Plus, the NEC does us no favors. The league game the slot into Week 4 is an away game? The NEC should be bending over backwards for teams like Albany and Central Ct. that go out and schedule marquee OOC games that raise the profile fo the NEC as a whole.
We should be getting home league games in September.

I'll be the first to admit that: 1.) I am thrilled that Duquesne has a complete Division I schedule, and 2.) I am annoyed that Butler continues to not only schedule Albion, but travels to Michigan to play them!
I understand all of your points, danefan and basically agree with all of them. I think that I understand your aspirations for the NEC in general, and Albany in particular. I'm probably just not as passionate about the issue.
As a high school coach, and the parent of two recent high school football players, I am simply grateful that opportunities exist for more boys to go on and play football in college. I am also aware of the tremendous amount of dedication, talent, and sweat that it takes to play college football at any level. During the recruiting process for my older son, I remember being shocked by the number of All-State players on Butler's roster. As I became more-and-more familiar with FCS football (scholarship and non-scholarship), I became more-and-more impressed with the level of talent at this nearly-invisible (on the West Coast) level of Division I.
I'm still just glad that these programs exist. I have a hard time getting worked up over issues such as SOS. I leave that stuff to the BCS people. The reason that I really enjoy this level of college ball is that championships are settled (for the most part) on the field.

I agree completely. And I hope the PFL does get a chance to join the club and settle it on the field.CoachL wrote:I'll be the first to admit that: 1.) Re: 2010 NEC Conference Schedules
Fordham and Wagner should have worked it out and neither should have played Assumption.
All that would have been needed is URI to switch its bye week with its Fordham game and then Wagner could have travelled to Fordham the week they're currently scheduled to play URI.
I doubt they even tried.

Quick update. Wagner is NOT playing Pace on Sep. 4. Pace is playing D2 East Stroudsburg on that day, as confirmed here http://www.esuwarriors.com/schedule.asp ... chedule=58&" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
