Catamount Football Approaches Annual Spring Drills; Spring Practice to Commence on April 6

WCU will conduct 15 practices over four weeks; Spring Game scheduled for May 1

March 18, 2010

Cullowhee, N.C. - Off-season preparations are starting to ramp-up for the Western Carolina football team and head coach Dennis Wagner, who is entering his third spring season atop the Catamount program. Activity for the football team has picked up since early March in advance of the annual spring drills which are slated to commence on Tuesday, April 6.

Wagner added, "We've had a great winter. I think we have improved our strength as a team tremendously. Now, as we approach spring ball, we are still trying to improve our strength, but emphasis is more on the change of direction and football specific things that we can do. We are preparing them now for what will go on during the four weeks of spring football."

The NCAA mandated 15 days of practice will be spread over a four-week period, culminating with the annual Spring Game on Saturday, May 1 in Cullowhee. Game time and format have yet to be determined. The team will conduct practices on Tuesday and Thursday's in the mornings during the week, while holding mid-morning sessions through Noon on Saturday also with Sunday afternoon practices.

Furman wasn't laughing.......

But I know very little laughing or happiness happens from Sept-Nov in the Whee, so hopefully Jerry will try to add some levity to a darkly depressed stadium.

Well would you look at this. Last year on AGS boards you were talking trash about Georgia State, saying how we wouldn't draw more than 3,000-4,000 fans for a single game. We had 3,200 for our spring game alone, while you... 500.

Better re-read my posts hot shot before you laugh too hard. My comments were about how your crowds would look inside the Ga Dome - not the numbers.... even if you drew 20k - it would still look and seem empty.

How about you better re-read, numbskull. This is your post from AGS:
All kidding aside. Do you actually think you'll play in the Georgia Dome beyond the first season?

I think this is a publicity stunt that will actually hurt. Putting in 4 to 5K (optimistic estimate) in a 72k stadium (no matter how many curtains are brought in) will actually hurt more than help both the game environment and recruiting. I actually think it will be embarrassing for the team.

Maybe you meant 4 to 5K for a spring game, LOL! What a dope.

I would love for Ga.State to come to Cullowhee this year. It would be a WCU win to be sure and FWIW, I absolutely love Bill Curry. Just try to stay within 80 of Alabama. :thumb:

It's very obvious from your post that you Georgia State guys have serious reading comprehension skills problems.

My comment (as I said) is about "how" pathetic you crowds will look in the Georgia Dome, NOT how many people you will draw. Just having to explain this to a college grad (or even a college student) is even more pathetic. :coffee:

LOL!!! The only thing that's pathetic here is your sad attempt to backpedal from your original statements. You specifically stated that 4 to 5K is an optimistic estimate. No matter how much you try to spin it, even an 8-year old can see it clearly. But if you really want to talk about "how" pathetic a crowd looks in ANY stadium, look no further than the laughable attendance of 500 for a spring game at Western Carolina Junior College.

Tell me what I'm missing
Do you actually think you'll play in the Georgia Dome beyond the first season?

So you are saying putting 4 or 5 thousand in a 72 thousand seat arena will look sad. Seems to me you are saying exactly what common sense is saying you did.........Wait, that is because he fucking quoted your dumb ass saying that there would be at most 5 thousand, optimistically, in that dome for GSU games

When's the last time Western Carolina got to laugh at an ASU/WCU game? I'll admit many of those games have been "laughers" but who was doing the laughing.

BTW Did Western win the spring game??? :poke:

The only dumb ass here clenz is you for following a Ga State fan.

The 4 or 5 thousand quoted there was not my figure in the original post - it was a figure put forth by Ga State fan, I did however call is "optimistic" figure.

I still call it an “optimistic" figure - still say 4 or 5 thousand in the 72K Ga Dome will look more than ridiculous no matter how may "curtains" they put up.
