Hey...don't shoot the messenger...this comes from a Montana news site (dailyinterlake.com) using an interview with the Montana AD...
UM Athletic Director Jim O'Day confirmed in a recent interview with the Inter Lake that the department is in the "preliminary talking stages" of a process that could potentially lead to one of the biggest changes in the history of Grizzly athletics.

Ain't the off-season fun???
Part two of this story runs tomorrow on the site, looking at former Big Sky teams that have moved up...
Part three runs on Sunday...Reaction of Griz Nation to this story...Can't wait...

Honestly, I see merits to both sides of the argument. Moving up is a gamble. Staying put is a risk.
The biggest question is this: If the Griz go from perennial NC contenders to .500 teams for several years, will they still pack Wa/Griz?

Depends which conference we'd go in to. If we were seeing the likes of Wyoming, Utah, UNLV, etc. I'm sure the place would be packed to the brim.

Griz could only hope they're a .500 team right off the bat.

Because it's substantiated by an article written by (what I presume) a reputable newspaper. Not a bunch of tards circle-jerking with their Griz gear on.

I can certainly understand teams that consistently draw in excess of 20K considering moving up. Even if you play in a lower level conference I would imagine the money difference is large.
I little harder to understand some of the schools that don't draw nearly that well but the UMs, ASUs, UDs could succeed if an attractive conference spot is available.

That, IMHO, is the key...
For UMass, to move up to a weak conference JUST TO MOVE UP, would be stupid...we have the best of FCS in the CAA...
And the same is true for Montana...ASU...Delaware...UNI...Y-Town...etc...etc...etc...
I don't think this is smack, which is why I didn't put it there...I'm not making fun of...or putting down...Montana...
If you tell me the site I found the story on is not ligit...I'll agree...otherwise...get over it...

Money talks and BS walks. If there's money in moving up, and I think there is, it is just a matter of time.

Well, who else would we be seeing? We aren't going to join the Sun Belt...it's pretty much between WAC and MWC, which would mean the teams you listed in addition to BYU, Boise, Nevada, Fresno St., SDSU, etc.
Pretty much any of those are going to pack the house, I would think.

If they move up, I know where they can stick my tickets.

You would no longer watch them play if they moved up?

You're not going to the MWC. If you leave you're going to the WAC. The MWC is looking at Boise St.>Montana. If they went to 12. You'd see Boise St., Houston, Fresno St. or Nevada >Montana

I am in Denver, and if you do not want to use those tickets, let me know how much they are each year. Finances permitting every year, I will buy them from you. Even, for the games I could not use the tickets for, I have friends and family that would gladly use them too. Then when I move back to Montana, I do not have to worry about tickets.

I am getting pretty sick and tired of the constant reminders of " buy your tickets early" " pay for the greatest show in Montana" " the U of M needs your money to blow on liquor and trips for its big wigs"
FUCK THEM. IF they go up again next year they can have them and I can watch the games on TV. I am so sick and tired of the full body cavity searches and the exorbitant pricing of the tix for every game. The U takes and takes from the football program but if they never give back then they can take flying leap into an exploding volcano.

I do agree with you on the football team getting robbed by the university. That is why it makes sense for those wanting to have tickets to get them from those who want to give them up. I love GRIZ football and basketball too much to let my frustration with the university keep me from the games I can get to.
When home in Montana, I go to every game. Even in Denver, I do my best to get to a few games a year. I have tried filling my college sports void by attending regional Colorada athletic events, but for me it just does replace time with GRIZNATION. There is no fanbase of any level or sport that can replace GRIZNATION for me.

I will try and find the thread where I outlined when and how the GRIZ jumped the shark. Who in the fucking hell needs 5 fucking mascots every fucking game? HUH? Well the Citadel has lots, but that is just at baggage claim.....but that is another story for Appaholic to tell.

Get rid of the big inflatable mascot(s). 1 Monte per game, with an occasion cameo from whoever, especially Benny the Bull is fine with me though.

My crystal ball says.........
There is said to be a number of large potential donors that will give only if the Griz play at the higher level. The Board of Regents will not stand in Montana's way if the study says a move up would be beneficial. Two schools in the WAC are courting Montana. I think it is a done deal just not announced yet. Montana will move up because they will have an invite to the WAC after the 2011 season. The Home and Home with MSU will continue because Montana will get a waiver from the WAC to continue the series. I hope this answers all your questions.
