Figure I'd give Georgia State some love around here 'cause no one else will. They made history Saturday with their first spring game ever. Weather was really nice, too bad they were in a dome. Anyways, good for them and hopefully they'll give Alabama a game. Gotta say though, I'm diggin' the electric blue helmets and unis.
Have they announced which year they'll be entering the Sunbelt yet?

It's going to be interesting to see how much they get for thier first game regarding attendance since they'll be playing in the Georgia Dome.

Does anyone know how many season tix they've sold? That should give us a starting point. The undergrad student body is 22K (heavily commuter), so if they can rally them, maybe they can get 5K students to show.
They only got 3,192 at the spring game, so that's not a good sign. I'm guessing they'll draw ~10,000 with an advertising push. Maybe they'll surprise us and draw 15-20K, but I doubt it. There are too many other things to do and teams to root for in Atlanta, and an opener versus Shorter (God, it's hard to say that without shooting my drink through my nose) isn't exactly going to get people excited.

Not much more than this

Well, there hasn't been much news out of Georgia State because of the local media. I know they sold a bit over 1000 season tickets on their first day, and that was in late December, but I haven't found any figures since and I've followed them fairly closely. I don't know, probably between 2000-3000 at this point?
I think one problem is that there is so much space in the Georgia Dome. Unless you're a hardcore fan, I don't understand why you'd buy season tickets if you can walk up to the stadium and pretty much be guaranteed a seat. The place holds what, 75,000? In contrast, Georgia Tech has a stadium with a capacity of 55,000, and they have trouble filling it up. Add to that the fact that the economy is tough right now, GSU is a commuter school, the sports competition in Atlanta, and they'll be playing in the FCS, I doubt they're gonna have too many season tickets. It's just not a good deal unless you know you'll be at every single game.

They'll average about 20 to 25 thousand. They'll go 8-3 with losses to ODU, Alabama, and Jax State. Then they'll beat their chests and talk about how GSU (or "GaSou" as they call us) is too scared to play them.

I'm glad to see GA State get started but the local media here in Atlanta isn't helping alot as they haven't gotten a lot of coverage. I will take in a game if it falls in a time slot that doesn't interfere with the Mountaineers. They would be a natural for the SoCon with closer rivals than the CAA but since they aren't a private school I wouldn't ever expect that to happen. Nice to have a CAA team based here in Atlanta to attend quality FCS games.

rumors are that they are planning to jump to FBS ASAP. In regards to coverage, its not going to help that they play in the same city as Georgia Tech and then once the NFL season starts have to compete with the Falcons as well. You also have SEC Georgia in the same state so that doesn't help either. ODU has been somewhate fortunate since the closest NFL teams are the Panthers and the Redskins and then there's really only one true college football power in the state of Virginia and that's Virginia Tech. Also, it helps that ODU is in the Hampton Roads area.
Anyway, back to GSU...I also think they'll draw 20,000-25,000 per game this season at the most. Also no disrespect towards GSU but I'm looking forward to seeing how much they lose by to Alabama, assuming that the Tide will be preseason #1.

If 'Bama is undefeated and there's another undefeated #2, expect 'Bama to put up 80+. If the computers aren't a factor, expect 50+ in the first half and then backups in the second half. Simply put, Alabama will do whatever they want in that game, and GaSt will bend over and hope they use lube and whisper sweet nothings in their ear.

thats another thing I forgot about in regards to the BCS....style points are also a factor so you're right that if there's another undefeated team or even two or three 'Bama will put up 80+ especially considering the time in the season when they are playing GSU. The last thing 'Bama will want is to have a close game with them to hurt their chances of getting back to the National Championship.
Anybody who thinks GSU will win has to be crazy but just playing them in Tuscaloosa will be a memorable experience because they can say as a program that they played the defending National Champs and eventual National Champs in their first season.

I'm not really understanding what you guys are looking for in regards to media coverage? What are y'alls expectations in order to say we have had "proper media coverage?" I hear this gripe a lot about our program, but I don't understand what it is all about? Since Spring practice alone has started there have been a few articles about the program. Just because we don't post every article on this board or AGS doesn't mean they aren't written. It just means that us Georgia State fans don't care to come over here (or AGS) and post them - really we are just happy keeping to ourselves over on PantherTalk.
Take a look here: http://projects.ajc.com/topics/sports/g ... te-sports/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; These are some of just the most recent articles written about us in the AJC. There have been some more, you can search the AJC website if you would like. But do you know what you won't see - you won't see any articles about that other FCS program in Georgia - even with their "program saving hire" of a coach - they aren't getting any publicity outside of Statesboro and maybe Savannah.

I didn't think the GaSt game counted for Alabama because they're considered in transition

It will count as a win, just not for Bowl Eligibility purposes.

ESPN the Magazine is doing a series on the program. the local media has been out at some of the practices and AJC has a writer at practice every day. 680 the fan has had coach curry on several times. The reason people don't think GSU gets much media attention is because 1) not many people pick up the paper these days. 2) we haven't played a game yet so you don't see game highlights along side those of GT and UGA. 3) people expect us to get mentioned in the same breath as GT and we aren't there yet. we'll get there. but just not there yet. I think some of our fans have an overly optimistic view on how things will go this season. I hope we go 8-3. we certainly have the talent. Also regarding attendance- i'll be estatic if we pull 20 grand a game. the dome was loud with 3200 people. and whoever made the comment about shorter obviously doesn't understand GA football. Shorter while an NAIA school has a large fan base in the state.

Question that was asked earlier, but how many season tickets have been sold so far? I do have to say, GSU seems to be getting some nice recruits and transfers.

I wish the best of luck to the Panthers on their first season of football and hope they do well. I think alot of optimism comes from the act that ODU had a very good year their first year of having football back at the school in a very long time. However i will say that they have a pretty decent first year schedule in front of them besides Alabama as South Alabama, Jacksonville State and Old Dominion are pretty good teams. Also them taking on the Crimson Tide at the end of the season has two benefits; Chances are Alabama wont be playing there starters much if at all and by that time the Panthers will have gelled considerable well

but if they want to get back to the National Championship, they'll most likely have to finish undefeated.

I don't think Alabama will have a problem knocking off GaSt. Does the score of the game get counted in the computer rankings though?

Ah yes, I remember this guy from the AGS boards. This is the same clown who said we wouldn't draw 3,000 for our first season game, let alone the spring scrimmage. How many showed up for the spring game at Western Carolina Junior College?
