Gardner-Webb Spring Game Wrapup

The Runnin' Bulldog faithful enjoyed a lovely Saturday afternoon watching our boys wrap up the Spring practice season with a matchup of the O vs. the D in Spangler Stadium. The day started with the introduction of the recent recruiting signees before the Booster Club and the players' parents. Afterwards, a nice crowd of fans, students, and family took to the stands to see our Runnin' Bulldogs put on their show.
All warmups start with a little special teams action. It looks like our field goal kicker needs a little more practice before the season begins.
The coaches have to chat to make sure they are on the same page,
The refs have to conspire to agree who is going to be "screwer" and who is going to be the "screwee." At least this time, they might agree with Coach Patton [in the middle telling them who to screw].
Law enforcement has to be on hand to hold down the unruly mobs.
Then, after the players warm up, it's time to play football. The D is wearing black and the O is wearing white. QB wears black.
D line waits for the play from the sidelines. [That's Jordan Woods sporting Mario Brown's old #45]
John Rock [QB] gets ready to air it out.
LB Marty Patterson trying to sack Rock. RB makes a good block to protect his QB.
Rock can run it when he needs to.
LB Hudson Smith [#97] in on the tackle.
And another:
And another:
Marty Patterson wraps up the runner as well as anyone in the Big South. That's why he led the League last year in tackles.
Physical play between the trenches.
Redshirt Freshman Chandler Browning [#12] gets his reps at QB.
Keenan Grissett [#10] gets to throw a few too. Keenan is also a redshirt freshman.
As the day wore on, you could tell that tempers were starting to warm up a bit. It was a hot day and everyone knew it was the last practice. Jordan Woods finally could not help himself and he had to lay the sack on QB Keenan Grissett [even though there was a clear "Leave the QB alone" policy.
As might be imagined, this led to a bit of a scuffle.
Shortly afterwards, the game was over and all of the players, coaches, fans and family hit the hill for a post-game tailgate party. Overall, a great day for all of the Gardner-Webb faithful. Now, if we can only make it for 4.5 months until September and our first game against Brevard.
